The girl and the pan

----Kirby----

"You know Nora, I was never really interested in heroing, I only got into it because of circumstance.

I'm not going into the circumstances right now, this isn't even a story about my days as a hero, this is the story of how I got my pan."

------------

I woke up, opening my eyes I was blinded by the sterile colors of the hospital. The beeping of the heart monitor was like a soothing song, signifying that the man I was here for was still alive.

My sister was drooling on my shoulder, she was the one who dreamed of becoming a hero, I just wanted them to be happy.

My dad looked up at me, noticing that I was awake.

"You and your sister didn't have to stay for me you know. I might be an old man but I can still take care of myself."

"One dad you're not that old and two, you're dying, of course we'd want to stay with you for the time we still have."

He nodded in understanding. "I'ts just, I don't like the fact that you're missing school because of this."

His biggest concern was us getting a doplima, having a good job and not have to worry about money like he did.

Rukh woke up, lifting up her head and wiping the drool off of her face.

"Good morning, I'm going to get something to eat, do you want something?"

I shook my head, I wasn't hungry, dad wanted some pudding so she went to go get that too.

When she returned the tv was on and we were watching an old sci-fi movie that followed western tropes.

She sat down next to us and we just enjoyed the moment while it lasted.

That was the last day he was alive, in the middle of the night his heart failed and we lost him.

Afterwards, I lost track of my sister for a bit. A new hero rose, she called herself Tea and had taken over the mantle from the previous person we bore that name, a man that had disappeared for some reason.

I just went about, living my life, maybe drinking a bit too much alcohol but all in all, I was doing fine.

Then, I got a call, it was a hospital that my sister had had an accident. I rushed over faster than some speedsters, afraid that her condition was critical.

When I entered the hospital, a guy in a yellow tux and cowl led me to her room, this guy looked like superhero I'd seen on TV, but that didn't make any sense, why would he be here for my sister?

When I saw my sister I knew why. She was wearing Tea's costume, or better, she was Tea. That's when I saw her legs, rather, her lack of them. They didn't exist anymore, blown to bits in an explosion when she tried to get out a few kids.

She was unconscious, probably from bloodloss. Seeing her there, I went quiet, even inside me head, there was just silence.

It was like I just stopped working. The world stopped turning for me, I couldn't breathe, I coumdn't even stand. I just fell to the ground.

When I finally could fathom what I just saw, I still just didn't now what to say. I looked at my sister, and I saw the real damage done to her legs.

Even I saw that she would never walk again, the meat was so damaged that even if she healed, there would never be nerves there.

They also explained to me that she had suffered damage to her cerebellum, meaning that she would barely be able to move her limbs.

They could heal this a little but never enough for complex movements or for controlling both your arms and legs at the same time.

When I could finally speak and she had woken up, all I asked was how and why. She started explaining to mehow she got the title.

"Our family has been protecting an ancient artifact since the godly war, we use it to protect the innocent and the downtrodden. When dad died, I got the artifact. He saw that I had the heroic instinct of the family, you just got the goodness, so he decided to tell me while keeping you in the dark so you would never have to worry.

Kirby, you can see that I will never be able to walk again, I can't protect it anymore. I'm not expecting you to take up the mantle, but please, protect it with your life."

Talking to me had tired her out, so she sent me a video and went back to sleep.

["Sis, if you see this, that means can only mean three things, either I'm dead, I'm in a coma or I'm unable to protect it anymore."

She then gave the same explanation.

"The artifact is easy to hide, it's a tea pan. In the hands of normal people, it just makes a killer tea, but in the hands of those with our blood, it awakens something inside of us.

Those are the people you have to protect it from, make sure to do this, I beg of you.

Oh and sis, if I'm really dead when I give this, I love you."]

The man in a yellow tux gave me a pan, saying that this is what she was talking about.
