curiosity didn't kill the cat

[Izenborg Kingdom, Town of Provenance]

"oof, pfft pff pff"

As soon as Ark spawned in he was greeted with the dry, grainy dirt that composed the outskirts of Provenance.

Ding* [You have received 1x starter pack]

"Oh cool a starter pack. I'll open that later."

After wiping the dirt off his face and dismissing the notification, he stood up and began walking towards the gate that was currently in front of him.

As ark approached the gate, he was stopped by what looked to be the gatekeeper.

"Identification please..."

"Oh, I'm new here"

"well, if you wish to enter without identification, then that'll be 10 copper"

Ding* [Unknown information detected]

[Currency is what is used to make an equivalent exchange between 2 or more parties. Currency systems tend to differ between races; humans use a system composed of primarily copper, silver and gold. (further information is currently inaccessible)]

'So it seems doing random, miscellaneous things has a chance to activate tooltips. I'll make a mental note of that.'

"Sir, is there something wrong", the gatekeeper inquired, wondering why the man in front of him was staring at the wall for ten seconds.

"Oh, not at all. Sorry I was lost in my thoughts."

"Well, like I said, that'll be 10 copper for entry unless you show some kind of identification"

"Sure, I'll get that right now", Ark calmly replied.

'hopefully this starter pack comes with some money'

[Would you like to open {starter pack}?]

[yes/no]

"yes"

Ding*

[You have received 1x {scrap} Novice Warrior Chestplate]

[You have received 1x {scrap} Novice Warrior leggings]

[You have received 1x {scrap} Novice Warrior Boots]

[You have received 1x {scrap} basic sword]

[You have received 50x Izenborgian copper coins]

"Great, it did have money"

"Pardon?"

"Oh, nothing. Here you go"

After I handed him the money, he asked me to place my hand on some orb. I guess it's just for safety reasons; I mean you wouldn't want just anybody running around in the beginners village.

As he made his way through the gates, Ark noticed that there weren't a lot of players, probably like 10 in sight. It's understandable though, since the devs said the map should be about 3 times the size of earth, and that's just the mortal plane. It makes sense that the population of just one beginner's village would be so small.

shwaaaaaaaaaa...

I looked back at the familiar sound and saw that it was a player. It seemed like they just spawned in.

'I almost forgot that it's still within the first hour of launch, which means more people should be coming later on. By the end of the week, I'm sure the general population of beginner's villages will reach over a hundred, at least.'

Putting that in the back of his head, Ark went out to get supplies for leveling. He made sure to get all the essentials and some other things in case of an emergency. After that, he equipped his armor and sword, and prepared to depart.

"Before I go, I should check my status"

"Since I choose human as my race, I guess I don't get that 5 point boost to any of my stats. Oh well, although it might be helpful now, it won't be that useful in the future when the average level is around 10."

Just as Ark was about to close his status, he remembered something important. He forgot to look at his soul trait. Although it was locked, he should still be able to see some of the information about it; he was curious to see what a mythical soul trait would look like. Sadly, he didn't see a tab on the menu that said 'soul trait'.

"looks like I'll have to wait until it unlo--"

Ding* [due to an enquiry about soul traits, new information has been unlocked]

Ding*[player "Ark" has been the the first player to discover a new menu function]

[you have gained the achievement "curiosity didn't kill the cat"]

{Worldwide Announcement: A player has discovered a new menu function. This will now be Integrated within everyone's menus.}

"Damn, someone already set off a worldwide announcement!"

"It's only been an hour since the game released! How is this possible?!"

"It must have been someone really strong. They're probably past lvl 3 already!"

"I need to hurry up and level up so I don't get left behind..."

If they knew the strong person they were talking about hasn't even obtained a single experience point they'd probably choke on their own tongues.(A/N: Idk, I was trying to use something other than "vomit blood")

Ark:"..."

"ok, well that was unexpected. I just wanted to look at the description of my soul trait, I didn't expect a worldwide announcement to take place."

As Ark reopened his menu, he found a new tab called [soul trait].

[activating tooltip...]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

{tooltip}: Soul traits

[Soul traits are just that. A trait unique to the soul that cannot be changed and is unique to each person. Even if your character somehow happens to get deleted and you have to make a new one, you will keep your soul trait. This is mainly to eliminate soul trait farming. There are many ways for one to appear. It could be a skill, class, item, pet, mount, stat boost, perhaps a unique race or architype, and many more. The soul trait is the one thing that makes a character unique if nothing else. (further information is currently inaccessible)]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading the tooltip, Ark dismissed the notifications and went to the tab labeled 'soul traits'.

[Soul trait: (locked)Gifted from the Start

description: Due to the combined significance of your family's martial arts legacy and your IQ of 210, you are deemed to have been naturally gifted since birth

effects: ????????????????]

"haha, I don't know what I expected. Until I unlock it, I probably won't get any info pertaining to the effects of it. Although the description seems rather interesting."

" *Sigh* putting that aside I should probably continue my trip."

He mustn't get behind when it comes to leveling if he's to become the top player, hence Ark closed his menu and dashed for the forest.
