Chapter 223: PURE ENVY

Many were calling out his name,

Crying, frustrated of Lucifer's cruel game.

And yet, Dawn could not understand one bit.

He couldn't understand a single thing.

His squad were deep into the palace's walls,

Trying to find any people they could aid.

And it wasn't so hard to come inside,

Since he's given great powers, just by being Leviathan's son.

But despite the praise he receives, he still feels nothing.

Despite the people crying in grief before him,

he doesn't feel emphaty one bit.

He felt like he was just fulfilling a role he was told,

But even that...didn't felt anything at all.

He felt emptiness, despite knowing what those people are.

They are sad, but what does it mean to be sad?

Dawn wondered why God gave His creations such wearing emotions,

Which to him at that point, will not give advantage to any stressful situation.

His shineless eyes scanned the room without complain,

Although he was truly just born, and already given such responsibilities none would have wished to gain.

He walked ahead, telling them directly that the room was filled with people.

And his comrades followed him without question, treating him as their own.

He would have smiled with joy, gratitude, if he could feel such,

And yet, he could only look at them and hope they return as fast.

And as he watches their back,

He could very well see the concern in their eyes.

Should he ever envy this or be thankful he was stripped of them all?

And just as he was wondering whether it would benefit him or not,

He laid still upon feeling an unusual sensation on his ears.

Dawn suddenly froze upon hearing a voice enter his head,

The angel quickly looked around, confused and dazed.

But it didn't belong to anyone else in the room.

And whoever it belongs to, it kept telling him to get out, immediately soon.

Dawn's black hair swayed as if pushed by some passing wind,

When in reality, there wasn't anything there is.

The voice then repeated again.

"I need you to help my child, lend him your strength."

His eyes mixed with purple and gold,

Widened after he was told.

But despite not fully knowing where it belonged,

He apologized to his pack and left without a word.

...

He doesn't know why his foot kept walking on their own,

Knowing fully where the place was, despite the lack of voice.

All Dawn really knows is that his heart is beating fast,

Curious, wondering, of his supposedly special task.

He then saw an orb of light appear out of thin air,

It fluttered around him, urging him to follow where.

Dawn quickly nodded and followed to wherever it went,

And soon enough, a weird chilling cold is what he felt.

It didn't took long however, for him to stop his steps.

And soon enough, he understood why the voice asked for help.

He saw before his eyes, the archangel of kindness struggle and fight.

Trying to stop a large beast, from landing a successful strike.

Soon enough, Jegudiel couldn't hold it any longer,

The weapon broke, fueling Leviathan's ego.

He laughed like the demon he was, and was about to devour the angel,

Only to be countered, by a familiar spell.

Emotioneless eyes, the mix of amber and purple

Were what greeted the demon, and nulled his own power.

Dawn rose his hand, and created a barrier,

That could rewound itself, whenever shattered.

Jegudiel was in awe upon seeing the boy's rescue.

And Leviathan, felt something he thought he shouldn't.

He felt like he knew the boy despite having just met him,

And for some reason, he doesn't respond with a hit.

Dawn continued to use the abilities of his mother and father,

A mix of a curse and a blessing altogether.

And a fast-learner that he was, he created his own weapon,

This time something, that he hoped could kill the monster.

He spoke no words, just focused on his goal,

Not even thinking, that he might be his father.

He striked without hesitation, and Leviathan morphed into his original form so to not be hit,

And while he was still confused who the man was, knew he would be killed.

He brushed his cockiness for the moment,

And used his own abilities to counter and target.

The water rose here and there,

Turning to ice, or made so hot it melts.

But despite being new to the field,

Jegudiel could see Dawn gave such impressive skills.

His lack of emotions and fear for himself,

Made his attacks all well-calculated.

He quickly poked the trident on his father's arm,

Which quickly turned to ice, to avoid being harmed.

Jegudiel knew then, that he needed to act,

Or else, Dawn would have been plunged by Leviathan's attack.

He tried to create another weapon,

But his body couldn't take it much longer.

In fear that the boy will be killed before him,

He quickly charged and blasted a direct ray,

But it was already too weak.

And Leviathan was able to dodge it while holding Dawn captive.

Than kill his capture directly though, he asked him softly,

"Who are you? And why does an angel have a different ability than the rest?

Why is your element and attack not of a soldier and an archangel?"

The young angel did not replied and kicked Leviathan to set him free,

But the motion caused Leviathan to see-

And find out for himself who the man in his arms was.

It wasn't just an angel, it was his own son.

The mark on the boy's nape was the same symbol of himself,

A mix of a cross and a wave.

He smiles upon finding out the truth,

Though some questions still lingers on his thoughts.

He whispers to the child's ear,

As Jegudiel fights his own want to sleep.

His eyes were already drooping, and his lungs giving up,

But seeing the danger Dawn was placed, he felt the need to stay up.

He crumpled his fists and opened his wings wide,

Threatening Leviathan of his possible attack.

But Leviathan did not showed any fear.

He smiles at him, daring him to do as he please.

Jegudiel's tears streamed from his eyes,

A bit insecure of what he can do on this fight.

He felt useless upon knowing he may be the weakest,

And that his efforts, would bear too less.

He yells at Dawn in a last attempt,

Telling him not to dare listen.

But Dawn's eyes were unreadable at best,

And his usually cold expression, was now painted by madness.

"I was meant to rule, father?" He asked the man beside him.

"Yes, but first, you have to prove yourself.

You have to kill this fake who dare take you away from me."

And soon, Jegudiel's eyes, glistened in fear.

He was not afraid to be killed, no,

He had been familiar with the smell of Death before.

Instead, he was afraid of the fate of the young boy,

Afraid that he'll die horribly, like what all demons would.

He stretched out his hand, begged that he snap out of it,

But the devil's son, smiled at him, and aimed his weapon.

It was horrible, seeing the intent in him for the first time,

And what did Leviathan do? Why does he have to corrupt a child?

"You really think a seal can be enough to stop him from such emotions?

Once I casted my own spell, your seal is no more.

He is now experiencing emotions for the very first time,

I did not manipulate him, it was what he feels and want to feel, all this...while."

Jegudiel's defeated look was apparent even in the darkness,

He knew he had no choice, but to kill Dawn like the rest.

What broke his heart more, was when Dawn spoke shaking with laughter,

"I want you behind me, father."

"And why so, my son?"

"So you'll have a closer look of when his blood splatters,

His skull wide open,

And his beautiful face turned to nothing but fish food in the waters."

Leviathan smiled proudly and did what he was told.

And Dawn's grip on his trident, tightened in hold.

Jegudiel wiped his eyes from the tears,

And despite the crushing feeling, looked at Dawn, praying for him not to kneel.

And then things went faster than a blink.

Blood dripped from a body,

Who quickly lumped to the waters harshly.

It was fast, and no one could have easily reacted.

Especially Leviathan, who had been, all this time, the target.

Leviathan looked at his own child with disbelief,

"Why did you betray me?"

"I did not betray you, Leviathan,"

"No, you did. You are my child. My son."

"And weren't you once God's?"

Leviathan was shunned quiet by Dawn's response.

And tears fell quietly from his purple eyes.

"You are pitiful, Leviathan,

You think direct relations, will benefit you from the start.

But like before, you trusted the wrong people.

I don't care, even with emotions,

I will never, ever, betray my true Father."

Leviathan could no longer respond,

Feeling the crushing pain, eat up his heart.

More so, he was also losing blood,

And having known that no one would value him,

He lost the will to restart.

For the last time, he looked at Jegudiel with envy,

How was he so loved? Despite being so weak?

He tried to reach for his son but the man did not flinched.

And even with his seal broken, his own son for him, did not shed even a tear.

Leviathan felt hopeless and soon accepted his fate,

To die without love, but hate and regret.

His tail stopped swimming, as his wounds continued to spread the red taint,

And it hurts the demon so badly, that his trust reduced him to such a state.

But in his dying moments,

He realized his mistakes.

It hurts being betrayed,

But he had done it himself.

He laughed weakly, thinking of what a fool he was,

How he missed a thousand opportunities, by foolishly seeking for love.

Dawn felt his heart shrugged,

But did not want to pity the demon.

After all, he had killed billions for no real reason.

He was a monster, that's deserving of his current position.

Leviathan's body soon felt cold,

As cold as the waters, his body was on.

And not wanting his form be pathetically displayed,

He froze himself with solid ice,

Causing him to sink.

Only when he was out of sight,

Did Jegudiel heard Dawn speak.

"If only he searched for the things that truly matter,

He wouldn't have drowned in envy and power.

I do not wish to pity my father.

He painted his own...inevitable future."
