Chapter 16

Its been about a decade since the cold war had taken place between the animals and Humans. The war that had once brought peace and comfort between these two species, but something terrible had happened.

Not all Humans were aware of what was to come, a certain incident emerged between the two species. All of this resulted in the animals fleeing the city once more. No Human had seen a Half-Animal since that incident, the certain Humans who had fallen in love with the species had disappeared as well.

The Humans had believed that the Half-Animals kind had gone extinct. The species were now growing anxious about what was to come now that there were no animals to give them the protection they had needed.

Life had continued for the Humans, but the world had fallen into chaos once more. Killings were reported daily as others had wasted their time never leaving their homes. The world had fallen apart ever since the animals left.

All of the chaos grew over the days until one day everything seemed to pause on a day a certain child was born into the world, it was a baby girl. She had bright blue eyes that were a beautiful sight, she also had little hints of dirty blonde hair and a bright smile on her face.

The mother of this child was grateful for this child and so was the father. They had hidden from the city so they wouldn't be discovered once more, it was better that way. They didn't need their newborn baby to be put into harm's way.

Time had slowly passed with the child as she grew up with her amazing parents, that was until the Humans had started to search through the forest, they had been searching for the lost kind.

The father immediately passed the child over to the mother telling her to escape to the city, she had done as told and escaped to the city, it was disappointing for the couple to split like this but it had to be done.

The now separated Mother had driven to the city and to her cousin's house, she had trusted them to take care of her child. The Mother knew her child was special and grow up to be just like her Father.

After dropping off her baby she started to drive her way back to the forest to reunite with her husband, she didn't make it as she had hoped. A car that was next to her had swerved hitting her side of the car, killing her in the process. She had known someone wanted her dead for falling in love with a Half-Animal, but she didn't expect to get killed this soon.

Humanity had grown evil by the days, car accidents happened more and everything else was being torn apart, it was not the safe place that the Half-Animals had once wanted. Peace between the two species is what they had strived for, but all they got in return was more destruction.

This was all just the beginning of what was to come, freedom was something that wasn't easy to win, and one war certainly wouldn't be enough to restore this broken world.

---------------------------------------------------

"Hey, are you okay? What's wrong?" a little boy asked as he walked up to a crying figure, the figure had turned out to be a little girl that looks about a year younger than him. Her hair was messed up as Marker was all over her face, words written everywhere he looked.

The little boy had thought she was crying over the permanent marker all over her face, the word Freak written all over it. The boy saw nothing wrong with the little girl, she looked like an average girl to him.

"They all called me a Freak and made fun of my birthmark. They all called me different, how am I different than any other human?" the girl had replied to the boy in between sniffles as she wiped away any falling tears.

A few girls had walked up behind the little boy, they're glare had proved they were disgusted from the fact that the little boy was even talking to this freak and not hanging out with people like them. He shook his head at the girls as he went and took a seat next to the little one.

"Wouldn't you rather be with someone like them, now take a look at me, I'm nothing. I belong in the shadow where no one would ever find me. So why do you choose to stay?"

The boy immediately shook his head before looking towards the little girl, a smile forms on his face as one forms on her face as well.

"I'd rather hang out with someone who isn't fake, you seem true to your word and you don't like to be in the spotlight of situations, exactly what I look for in a friend. My name is Lucas, Lucas Griffen. I am also your new friend." the girl's eyes widened, she's never had a friend before, people would be bullied if they were considered to be friends with her. She smiled at the boy as she took his hand to shake it.

"My name is Maya, Maya Cheyune. Thank you for being my friend, I've never had one before. Everyone who is seen near me is bullied, are you sure you want to be friends with someone like me?" Maya tilted her head to the side, she didn't know if this boy was messing with her for fun and games or if he was serious about wanting to be friends with her.

Lucas shook his head up and down signifying that he indeed wanted to be friends with this girl, not out of pity, but because she looked like she would be genuinely a nice person and not do anything behind his back.

The boy then stood up to his feet before extending his hand out to Maya, she took it instantly as they both walked to the bathroom to wash the marker that had been written on her face.

Maya was grateful to have her first friend, and probably her only friend as well. She would do her best to keep this kind of relationship together, she couldn't afford to lose something like this.

This was just the start of her journey, she had expected more to come just like any other's life. She was ready for any of the challenges this world had to offer her.
