Chapter 10 - Calcul-Stone Company

Marc and Rofta are right now being shown through the city by Genno in high spirits. Maquarry is an important city for The Kingdom of Fiore's economy because it sells stone to the whole country and even others like The Kingdom of Dragnoff. As that country hasn't been destroyed yet, making Ishgar not part of Fiore.

(A/N: See Map. What I'm trying to say is, that the marked area (Dragnoff) isn't part of Fiore yet like in canon.)

"So young-ins what do you want to see first?" Genno turned around and asked Marc and Rofta.

"Do you sell swords in this city?" Rofta asked back.

"We do, and we have a pretty famous blacksmith here too. When we cut stones out of the mountain, we sometimes find rare ores, so the blacksmiths living here don't have to pay for the transport and security to guard it. That's why this place is a good place for a blacksmith to live." Explained Genno before starting to walk in the direction of the weapon shop.

Suddenly Marc said something that made Rofta a tiny bit nervous for some reason. "I will just walk around on my own." He said before walking somewhere else. Rofta doesn't want to be chased out of a city again that's why he's a little nervous. This time he wants to sleep in an actual bed, and not outside.

"Well then let's go young-in Rofta." Genno pulled Rofta out of his thoughts and they proceeded to the weapon shop.

This time I will for sure win some money, and eat delicious food until I'm stuffed to the brim. But I will have to say, this city is such a sight to behold. As I don't have Rofta here to destroy my money plans I'm sure I will succeed this time.

But what should I do this time? I'm not going to trick any ladies this time…Maybe as a backup plan, but not for now. As I looked around most of the people who are living in this city are showing a lot of skin, must be because of the hot environment.

That's when I spotted something that took my attention. Is that a blackboard? I can feel it, my road to money is on it. I quickly walked up to it, so I can read what's written on it.

When I got close enough to read it, it said "Urgent in need of a stone mover. The Pay is 5000 Jewels a day, for further info, make contact with Calcul-Stone Company for further details."

Guess that settles it. I'm definitely taking this job no matter what! Damn, this makes me remember gramps and his annoying cane. He told me I would never get a real job, guess he was right though as I never got a 'real' job in my previous life. But this time I will prove that old geezer wrong, and he better be looking at me from heaven.

"Grandpa, let me go shopping for dinner. You should be careful with your back!" Offered a 12-year-old Marc to his grandpa.

"God no!!" Exclaimed his grandpa with a loud voice in panic.

"Why not?" Asked Marc with a confused expression.

"Don't tell you haven't realized it yet?" The grandpa asked bewildered.

"What? Tell me, tell me!" Marc asked annoyingly making his grandpa cover his face with his hand.

"Sigh, I'm really worried about your future little Marc. Haven't you realized every time I give you a list of ingredients to buy, you never actually come home with any of them. Instead, you buy something fancy I have never heard of before. Like organic milk, what the fuck is that? I ain't drinking that shit!" Grandpa said with a stubborn attitude.

"Eh? But I heard a lady say it's healthy." Marc tried to counter but-

*Dong*

The grandpa hit Marc on the head with his cane and said "Don't believe everything you hear! People say a lot of shit these days!" With a commanding tone.

"Ouch!! Don't hit me, gramps!" Marc cried out.

"I will give you one more chance. I will give you a list and you JUST have to buy what's on it, understood?" Grandpa said while waving his cane around threateningly.

"I got it, gramps, I will definitely fulfill this important mission you have given me!" Marc said childishly in a military salute.

"Then go, shush shush" Marc got waved away.

1 hour later…

"Gramps I'm back!" Marc yelled as soon as he came in from the door.

"So did you get it?" Asked grandpa with skepticism in his voice.

"Of course I did." Said Marc with pride and his nose high in the air.

"Quickly give it to me!" Marc's grandpa wanted to confirm his words. After checking the content of the shopping bag he nodded his head in approval.

*Dong*

"You didn't get a single thing on the list right!"

After Marc finished thinking back on past events, he asked around where he can find the Calcul-Stone Company and got directions, though after getting lost multiple times, he used his cute persona to get a lady to lead him to it.

The ladies are his GPS in this world.

When he entered Calcul-Stone Company he could see a long line of people waiting in the line that said "Recruiting stone mover". After waiting in line for 5 minutes Marc had enough and got impatient. Then he walked to the door outside and began looking deeply at the sky before yelling "It's raining with gold outside!!" With a high-pitched voice, everybody in the store could hear.

All people that stood in line quickly looked at each other for a second before they pushed each other away and raced out to get the gold for themselves.

Marc took this opportunity to cut in line making him the 1st in-line where he was at 20th before. When all the people got outside and saw there was no gold raining from the sky, they all came back in and glared at Marc.

"I must have seen wrong, the sun got in my eyes, sorry sorry…" Marc said with a thick face to angry people he baited.

"Why is a child here? Get out of here, this isn't a place to play around." A man suddenly said, wanting Marc to get lost and get his queue in line back.

"I'm 17-years-old, so I'm no child." Stated Marc to the man with a fuck you expression.

"You little!! If you are no child then I'm allowed to teach you a lesson!" The man said wanting to beat Marc's annoying face that indirectly said "You are stupid".

As Marc saw the man getting closer, Marc suddenly pointed at a security guard who just wanted to watch the show in peace and said to the man closing in "Do you think this is a lousy bar where you can do whatever you want? Don't you see this place has strong guards around?"

When Marc pointed at the security guard everybody looked at him, making him the spotlight. That way he can't be passive in this matter without lowering the shop's prestige. He had to walk forward and stop this fight right now.

"Halt!! No fighting is allowed in here!" The guard said with a stern tone, trying to look good in front of people.

"But he cut in line!? You have to throw him out!" Defended the angry man to the guard.

The security guard then looked between Marc and the angry man, comparing each other.

"Who's the easiest to deal with?" The security guard thought, wanting to end this matter quickly.

After sizing up the angry man, he concluded he was nothing special. Then he looked at Marc who smiled with a devilish smile that sends a chill down his spine.

"I'm betting on this little devil for sure." The security guard decided what to do. He's a smart man after all.

"I'm sorry sir, but you left the queue yourself, so you will have to start at the end of the line again." The security guard told the angry man while pointing at the end of the line.

The man got even angrier when he heard that. His head was so red that it was about to burst off anger. But he didn't do anything further like using violence or anything, though he did send one last glare at Marc which he just smiled and waved in return making the man even angrier.

After watching the man walking back in line, the security guard just warned Marc "Kid don't make any more trouble in here!" Before going back where a stood before. All the other people who were also angry at Marc just swallowed their anger.

"Of course~," Marc said with a merry tone, happy that he doesn't have to wait anymore.

"Next!" Said the cashier, making it Marc's turn.

(A/N: Tell me if you don't want any more flashbacks of Marc's previous life. But I thought it would be fun writing some past life events, but it's up to you guys to decide.)
