Chapter 40 - A disguise for Gina

After preaching about what his art meant, they discussed the important matter before going on a new quest. Gina's Devil Slayer Magic. Currently, she isn't wanted, but it's just a matter of time before the wrong ears hear about someone who used Devil Slayer Magic when Wonsu Village was attacked.

Although Marc doesn't care about making enemies and likes to play with death, he knows making an enemy of a whole country without having the strength to back it up isn't just playing with death, but a certain one. So he needed a solution. The only one he had himself was to disguise her as the obvious scar is easy to recognize. But a disguise will only be effective if she keeps it on and never shows her magic to anyone. The thing is though, they won't always be the ones to choose when and where to fight. What if she gets attacked in a city? Should she just die without defending herself? No.

The solution Lisa had was simple, just learn Transformation Magic. Just learning the basics will make Gina able to hide from the common people who usually are the ones to spread rumors around. As for other mages, they will be able to see through the spell if they are good enough. But that led to another problem. Gina can't use other magic as a devil managed to place a curse on her when she was a kid before the deceased old lady from Wonsu Village managed to kill the devil and save her. The curse locked her magic container inside the body that every mage has to be able to use magic. Normally every mage can use this source to fuel all kinds of different kinds of magic, but the devil made Gina only able to access the container if she uses its Sand Devil Slayer Magic. Sure there are a few loops she has discovered as she can freely release her Magic Power, but that's not a type of magic in itself.

The three females from the Heartily family didn't have any other ideas other than making either Rofta or Marc learn Transformation Magic then make him use it on Gina. The disadvantage of that though is they can't leave her side for a few meters depending on their skill. Good thing Rofta came up with another idea after thinking back about the blacksmith he bought his new swords. He told them about the 'failed' products the blacksmith made. Those failed creations were various failed puppets that are controlled by infusing Magic Power into rope-sized strings. Because of the thickness of the strings, the blacksmith called them failures as they were obvious and very frail. The opponent would easily be able to win if they just cut them.

The more Marc heard, he couldn't help think they are just like a bad version of puppets from Naruto. He knew from the series that those puppets are very scary and tricky.

After explaining what Rofta saw at the blacksmith, he said what was on his mind currently. "If those strings can be improved or even removed and make the puppets move in some other way then she won't be defenseless."

Silence took over the place and they all began wracking their brains for a solution.

Marc used a few seconds to go through his anime knowledge and ended up thinking about telekinesis. As he caught himself thinking about useless stuff, he suddenly thought about something and quickly ran off to get something.

"Wait, we aren't done-" Rofta wanted to smack Marc for not taking the situation seriously and thought he ran off to play around again. When he came back he had a cup they used last night to drink booze off.

Looking at Gina, he asked, "can you make the sand into a little ball and let it float?"

Not sure why he asked that question after getting a cup, she just showed him by making a little ball of iron sand float over her hand. When Marc saw the ball he just put the cup over the ball, making the cup look like it's floating.

"It works!" Marc celebrated by himself, making the others look at him weirdly. After all, all he did was hiding it with a cup. What's so great about that? Rofta is very bright, even more than him, but his view is still narrow regarding magic's possibilities. He is slowly evolving after being in Marc's company. Marc's anime knowledge is a key advantage and makes his imagination way bigger.

"…Why are you doing party tricks all of sudden?" Gina couldn't help feel stupid that she had high hopes of a solution.

"If those puppets Rofta talked about are filled with your sand, then you should be able to move them right? They essentially would be wireless puppets moving at your will. If nobody can see your black sand then they won't know anything. Just rename your magic into something like Remote Magic just in case if you have to reveal it someday." Marc explained right in Gina's face. The close contact between the two made Lisa pull him away. More specifically, he was hugged from behind, making his head squeezed between her soft coconuts.

"Rofta, lead the way!" Marc said with enthusiasm and a knuckle in the air while still being sandwiched.

After buying and getting a few custom orders in with the blacksmith Rofta met during his time hunting for a sword. They used Lisa's money that she happily gave because Marc asked.

Right now they on their way to the meeting point for the new quest they took. Gina was wearing some different clothing than usual. She was wearing a white cloak and a red veil to hide her face. While standing she somehow looked a little hunched now

"Why did you want to take this mission? It sounds so boring…" Not being happy with the choice of the quest, Marc complained.

Shaking his head "This quest is perfect for Gina. This way she can get used to her new gear." Rofta partially lied. He mostly wanted to see people's reactions when they see Gina's new form.

The meeting point is just inside the southern entrance of the capital and when they reached it they could hear a familiar annoying voice.

"You filthy commoner! I deem you worthy of sleeping with me, and you dare to decline? Preposterous, how dare you?" Marc and Rofta found the same ugly dude wearing expensive clothing they met before entering the city.

Marc got closer to his teammates and looked like he was about to whisper something. "That dude must have a tiny peewee or else he wouldn't stoop so low and force himself on women." His voice was more than high enough for Carlos and everybody watching the show to hear. It made him beyond angry and he was just about to order his few normal guards to attack the one who said it, but when he recognized Marc and Rofta, he swallowed his words in fear that Lisa was here too.

Carlos showed a strained business smile before pushing the commoner woman he was just holding the wrist away with force. "What can this Baron do for you?"

Some sweat flowed down on Gina's chin and she leaned closer to Marc and Rofta, saying "This man is disgusting. Is he even a man?"

Marc and Rofta nodded as they agreed. The Baron heard and saw it all. He was about to lash out, but stopped and began shuddering when he thought about Lisa's might.

"I'm waiting for my escort I requested the Adventurer's Guild to find, so can you move away so they can't miss me?" Carlos said with a fake royal persona while thinking "I will get my revenge against you when I get back. I don't know why uncle forced me to deal with some petty bandit group. He should just do it himself."

The three friends looked at each other. Gina wrinkled her brows under her red veil, Rofta shared his head with disappointment, while Marc grinned and pointed at himself with his index finger. "That must be us!"

Carlos felt his revenge might come sooner than expected. His mind was going overdrive with disgusting delusions "Yes, yes, yes…I'm going to cripple you and show you how dad and I take 'good' care of your female companion…"

Inside a dark office in the capital, two men are talking.

"So you finally decided to take my advice and get rid of those two disgusting leeches?" An old voice asked the other person who came into the darkroom.

"Yes, father. I should have done it long ago as you told me." Said the intruding person with a manly voice.

"No, you are the leader of this house now. You should experience and see things for yourself. Only then can you truly learn and stay on your own feet. But do tell me how you are going to kill my brother? It has to be done cleanly so it can't bite us back as you know he does do business under the table with other families. If they find out it's us then we will be forced to be on the frontlines in the war by using my brother as an excuse." The old voice said to his son.

"That's why I'm here. I needed your advice before setting my plan in motion. It goes like this…"
