Lucy's pov)

I walk into my mother's office, and she looks so tired. I wish she didn't have to endure all of this. Ever since my father "died" she has had to take over all the work, as the official Queen. Well, she was queen anyway, but she is now the highest ranking official in all of France. Not even a King could overrule her now. And my father isn't dead, he's hidden. He drinks on a regular basis, so we keep him hidden in the basements of the castle. He has the best maids. They are the only people to make contact with him, other than my mother. I don't even try to talk to him, I know he would use me to get information, or something manipulative like that.

Anyway, my mother has had to undergo a lot of hardships in the past three years. Being a Queen without a King. It's sad honestly, but she still makes time for our daily lessons. Even my brother has to take them, you know, just in case. So, at least i'm not completely alone.

"For today's lesson, we will be talking about marriage and how it works for us." my mother starts.

"Ew," my brother comments, a little too loudly.

"Excuse me, son, but we will not tolerate that kind of behavior in this castle. Understood?"

"Yes ma'am," my brother replies

After that, it's a whole bunch of boring, " whomever marries you, Lucy, will have to stay in France." and

" Cole, you will not marry off, unless you choose to"

Thank goodness. If he was forced to leave, I don't think I would make it. He is my rock, at least at the moment. Wait, did she say, unless you choose to? What if he wants to leave. No, no. He wants to stay, right?

When lessons are over, we head to the dining hall, there are daily schedules lining the screens in the halls

"12 pm LUNCH"

As we walk, Cole asks," So, can you wait to be queen?"

"Definitely. I just have the smaller shoulders, and i would rather not risk you going and getting married off."

" I wouldn't do anything without telling you, Lucy," he says, " So, how is pretty boy?"

" I said I wasn't going to tell you, but nothing has happened,"

" Wow, I would tell you anything."

" And I wouldn't. But i'm your big sister. You are supposed to tell me everything"

" Yeah, i know. But who are you supposed to talk to?"

When those words come out of his mouth, we have sat down and our food has been served. There are beautiful colors in front of me. Green beans, and mashed potatoes, colored blue, corn, beautiful steak. I am so hungry, but not for this. Not for food. I want answers. Answers from Pretty Boy.
