Chapter 1

Third Person POV

Breaking twigs, rustling leaves and heavy breathing was all that could be heard as a mother ran with her child to find safety. Minutes before this, her daughter stood motionless in front of her fathers bruised lifeless body. It was a massacre.

Throats were slit, knifes plunged deep into ones abdomen, swords sliced skin...it was a bloody mess. All her daughter could do was scream and cry out as she watched it all happen before her eyes. She felt helpless and lost and an unbearably numbing pain struck her when she found her fathers dead body and all she could do was stare at it as her tears flowed out of her eyes, her hand reached out to hold his, her other hand reaching out to close his eyes, she whispered "I love you Fùqīn." Her fathers elegant clothes were smeared with his and the enemies blood, indicating that her father died fighting for her and her mother and their household. She came back to her senses when her mother pulled her away to safety.

They ran and ran and ran until one arrow was shot to her mothers kind and generous heart, her body collapsed on her daughter...she lost that too...her daughter fainted due to the disturbing and painful events she had witnessed. The trauma erased all the memories of this day. Even who her parents are.

-----

Hours later, a young man of only 100 years of age rescued her from the horrid scene, sealed away her powers and took her to the earthly realm where she would undoubtedly remain safe.

He placed her on the doorstep of an elderly couple, gently knocked on their door and flew back to where he came from. The elderly couple opened their doors and tears fell from their eyes as they saw a young girl, covered in blood and unconscious, laying on the cold dirty ground. They brought her inside, cleaned her wounds, washed her clothes, and waited for her to wake up.

Yenays POV

"No! stop, don't hurt them! Fùqīn! Muqīn!" I screamed. Pain radiates from my chest to the rest of my body as beads of sweat form on my forehead. I could see them clear as day, reaching out but never close enough to hold onto them. Someone shook me gently but I didn't budge until I was roughly pulled up into a warm embrace. "Shh Ai, I'm here, I'm here," Muqīn said. I cried silently on her shoulder as she patted me on the back gently.

"Do you remember anything?" she asked softly. I shook my head from left to right, "No," I said with a hoarse voice. She pulled me out of her embrace and stared deep into my eyes, no doubt wishing she could take away my pain that comes every other night. It's the same dream of the same people that I always forget when I wake up. "Alright, get ready for your day Ai, don't forget your chores," she said trying to distract me. I smiled weakly and said, "Of course, I'll get right to it."

She left my room and I got up to take a bath and get dressed. I've been living with them for 10 years ever since they found me on their doorstep covered in blood. I still don't know how I ended up here and why I was covered in blood but I don't dwell on it or else it'll drive me crazy.

I went out of my room heading to the kitchen to make breakfast. My routine has always been the same. Get firewood for the stove to cook breakfast, lunch or dinner. Clean the house while Fùqīn goes out selling wood and Muqīn sells vegetables. Tend to the garden and go out to the library to read books on the Heavenly realm.

It may be fiction to others but to me...it feels real. I've always been the weird one here but never lonely. "Ai! Ai!" shouted a little boy running in my direction. I immediately put the book down, kneel on one knee and open my arms wide for my little buddy to jump in them and give me a hug. "Hey! how are you?" I asked. "I'm happy and excited for our lesson, let's go Ai!" he responded while jumping up and down and grabbing my hand to pull me in the direction of our class.

I teach kids how to read and write. I taught myself which shocked my adoptive parents and the neighborhood. Some assumed I was a witch because of their jealousy but I never let it get to me. "Alright kids, let's get started!" I said as I walked into the classroom to begin my lesson.

Currently, I'm laying in my bed staring at the ceiling. I can't sleep for fear of having another nightmare that I can't remember when I wake up. I slowly and quietly get up from my bed and tiptoe towards the backyard. There I sit near a tree, laying my head on its trunk as I watch the stars twinkle.

I turn to my right and notice a meteor flying straight towards me but the shock renders me motionless. I close my eyes as it nears me, expecting it to crash me to death but instead of it crashing on me, a bright light illuminates the outside. I open my eyes slowly, only to find someone levitating as if they were sleeping in the air.

I stand, moving closer to it and as I do so it lowers to the ground. The light that shined around it dims completely and a young looking man lays on the ground unmoving. I move closer to him and as I reach out to poke him on his side, his hand grabs onto my wrist and his eyes shoot open...
