Bloody hell!

I ran down the stairs as quietly as I could, I was so hungry! As I opened the cereal cupboard, I heard faint footsteps coming up behind me.

"Good morning, sweetheart." Mother said, almost whispering. I nodded in response. I had nothing to say to her nor my father.

"I'm sorry if we woke you up, honey." She spoke again as I opened the fridge and took out a glass bottle of milk. I turned to my mother, opening my mouth to say something but nothing came out so I started to slowly walk over to the counter to put some milk into my cereal.

"We are leaving for the train at half past 1 this afternoon, are you all packed?" Mother asked. "What?" I wondered out loud, my mouth wide open in complete shock.

"Are you packed and ready to go to the station at half 1 this afternoon?" she repeated.

"No, school is tomorrow, not today!" I shouted confused. She giggled. I ran over to the calendar and sure enough, I had gotten the date wrong. Still in shock, I sprinted back to my mother who had now moved to sit in the dining room.

I slipped and fell, smashing the glass of milk still in my hand on to the dark wooden floor below me.

"Bloody hell!" I shouted holding in the pain that was shooting up my arm. I didn't scream, I didn't cry, I just stayed very still trying to fight off the excruciating pain.

Mother ran over to me, lifted me off the ground into her arms and placed me on one of the sofas in the lounge. She went to the bottom of the stairs, screaming my fathers name. I looked down at the hand that had recently held a glass of milk and saw a fountain of blood dripping on to the brand new sofa that we had bought the other day. I don't remember anything that happened after that moment.

I had passed out from seeing so much blood, but I do remember waking up led down on my parents bed. My unharmed hand was being held and tightly squeezed by mother and I could hear father on the phone with a doctor in the corner of the room. I had a wet towel on my forehead and my hand was in a blood stained bandage.

"Baby? Are you awake? Can you hear me, honey?" I heard mother ask her other hand now on my cheek.

"Yes, mum. I'm awake now. I feel fine." I mumbled, hardly able to move my mouth out of pure exhaustion.

"Oh my goodness! You're ok! Thank Merlin! I was so worried!" she sobbed, "Thomas! She's awake! She says she is ok now, no need to worry anymore." As soon as he heard the words she is awake, he hung up on the doctor without even saying his goodbyes. He walked over to the bed, sat next to my head and placed his hand on my chest. I swear I saw a tear fall down his cheek in the corner of my eye as I looked back at my mother.

"Oh my gosh! What time is it?" I exclaimed sitting up way too quickly. "It's 9am sweat heart, you have plenty of time before your train leaves. Now, please, lay back down." father pressed down on my chest to make me lay down again but I refused.

"No, really dad, I'm ok now. I only fainted because I saw the blood on my hand. I feel fine now guys, I promise." I answered looking right into the eyes of my father and then into my mother's. They shared a worried glace but then nodded. Father stood up so that he could help me get across the hall to my bedroom so that I could pack any extra things that I needed and write a list of things that I would need to get while I was there.
