Wrath brought us through a few hidden passages to the back of an unfamiliar inn.
"Is this where you've been staying?"
Babur nodded.
"It was seven days since Wrath saw you last. Wrath was beginning to get worried."
"Seven? I only saw you four days ago when you had Babur over your shoulder."
Wrath shook his head.
"That was seven days ago. We made it back to Heiarch in two days. Wrath was moving at top speed."
"I... I did fall asleep after I got to this side of the border. I thought I only slept for the night. Maybe I slept for longer than I thought."
"That dark creature, what was that? It was gigantic. Wrath wasn't sure what to do at first but, Wrath got a close up view of a limb and recognized your power over the shadows."
"I thought Babur was dead. I wanted to make the anurans cower in fear before I destroyed them completely. I had seen only one limb of a creature roughly the same size some time ago. It scared me to think what it could do. When I thought about that feeling, I wanted to share it with them. I made it come to life with my shadows and fully intended to erase their existence. I let my base desire for revenge take control."
"Did you..."
Babur asked. I could tell she was worried.
"No. I got into a fight with someone from my past. After I saw that Wrath had rescued you, he set a trap and captured me. An anuran was nearby and killed him from behind. I was grateful that you were alive and great full to the anuran for solving my problem with that individual."
Though, the anuran tried to kill me after he killed the body thief. Not that he could succeed.
"The one that you were fighting..."
Wrath started.
"Who is he? And, did Wrath see magic spells being cast?"
"Myagic?"
Babur repeated.
"Yes. He can cast magic. Though, I don't understand how. It might have something to do with his ability to steal bodies."
"Steal bodies?"
"Steal?"
Babur and Wrath asked at the same time.
"He said something about using bodies. When I fought him before, he was using the body of a woman that I knew. This time, he was in the body of an anuran. I knew it was him from the way he talked but, I wasn't sure until he spelled it out for me just before this body was killed."
"Was the last body killed? Can he take just any body?"
Babur asked.
"I don't know. He's still a mystery to me. He seems to hate me but, I don't understand why."
We were quiet for a moment before Wrath spoke up.
"Wrath would like to ask you a question, Leader."
"Go ahead. And, you don't have to call me leader. Just, Lake. I'm a failure at leading. All I did was bring faithful followers to their deaths."
At that admission, he seemed to shy away from wanting to ask his question.
"Not all. Wrath is still here."
"Yet, you didn't follow me. In fact, you disobeyed orders and went ahead. I'm not mad at you for doing that. I'm glad that you were successful. I just wish..."
Things got quiet again. Babur started to rub my shoulder in an attempt to make me feel better.
"Wrath knows that you are his superior. But, Wrath would like to go back to Fricity. That is Wrath's home and where Wrath's guild mates are."
I looked up at him.
"I never said you couldn't leave. You did a lot for me recently and I only have appreciation for you. You did something that I was afraid to do alone. Go home. Be with your friends."
He bowed.
"Thank you."
He walked to the doorway and turned his head back to us.
"Wrath did have a little help."
He held up a silver object. He made a complicated sigh with his hand while the object stayed at the center of his palm.
He disappeared into thin air.
I let out an amused sigh. Of course a lumbering oaf like him had something like that up his sleeve.
It was obviously only invisibility because I could still hear his massive footsteps on the wood floors.
I looked at Babur and she held an equally disturbed look on her face.
"Pfff-hahaha. Nyaaa! I can't believe he got me out of there with just invisibility! Someone had to have nyoticed all that stomping around."
I let out a weak smile.
"Yeah. For real."
I laid down on the empty bed. Babur came over and sat on my chest.
"What nyow?"
"Well. We're right back where we started. I keep coming back to Heiarch. Not that it isn't an interesting place to be but, I'd rather get out of here sooner than later."
"Nya wanna leave nyow?"
"In case you haven't noticed, my clothes aren't in the best shape. And, I kinda ran away from a the guards that were supposed to be watching me. I might be wanted in the city at this point."
Without saying a word, Babur got up and left the room. She was gone for only a few minutes before she returned.
I was lost in my thoughts when a pile of clothes landed on my face. I lifted them up and looked at her.
"Nya should probably try them on. I have no idea If they will fit."
"Where did you get these?"
She looked up and away, avoiding my question. I let out a sigh and sat up.
I stripped down without thinking. I heard Babur make a weird sound and saw her facing away from me.
"Somebody is shy."
"Nyand, someone else isn't."
I dug through the selection of clothes and got dressed in the ones that fit me best. I had no hood so I made do with wrapping the arms of a shirt around my neck and covering my head with the rest.
"Guess this will have to do for now."
I had been reluctant to ask, but I wanted to make sure Babur was okay with my idea for where to go next.
"Hey, Babur."
She cocked her head in curiosity.
"I'd like to leave this place but, I want your opinion on something."
