Chapter 40

Melyn gripped Reven's hand tightly and made her way down the side of a high-rise. The ghouls they'd killed were returning to life inside the apartments above and would soon be coming for them. She could already hear their pitiful moaning through the closed, barred windows.

She recalled the bricks beneath her feet to a time past, when the bricks had been moist and unset; and thus her feet were able to adhere to the stone. The speed she forced into herself made her whole body feel as a psycho-spark.

In a blink they were on the southern streets of the Lows, which were oddly calm, but dark. They sped south, toward Magehall, wary of ambush. Their eyes met and exchanged experiences silently. The story of their escape was one of heroes; but they had better things to worry about.
