Happiness

7:20 PM

(A park around Jason’s neighborhood)

“Throw it,” a kid said with excitement.

“I did it, I caught it” the kid cheered.

“Congrats” the parent replied with a smile on her face.

“I’m sorry about your brother,” Jason said looking all dull. Natasha was sitting next to him on a wooden bench watching parents and their kids play.

“Don’t be. I’ve never felt happy once in my life because my family does not provide happiness.” Her head was down and her eyes were closed.

“Liar! I’ve seen you happy.” Jason said.

Natasha turned her head, and gazed at him intently “What are you talking about?”

Jason scratched his head “hahaha, do I really need to remind you? Fine, remember 11 years ago when your dad came to my house for dinner and I and Marcus were playing in my room and then he threw a ball which accidentally touched you then you got all mad but after that, you felt remorse for yelling at him and when he told you that, you had your reasons to be mad, you smiled a little bit and left in embarrassment.”

Natasha smiled a little bit “ohhhh! I was 9 years old at that time and I actually felt happy because whenever I did something wrong at home and apologize, my parents used to yell at me but he treated me differently.”

Jason looked at her, she was smiling.

“After that day, whenever my father comes to your house, I always tagged along because of him, and eventually we did fall in love but why did you tell me to stay away from him?” Natasha asked.

Jason looked up at the sky “Well, after learning that our families were selling drugs, I thought It would be best to tell him to stay away from my and your life.”

“At least you are not selfish,” Natasha said and both of them laughed.

10 PM

(Knock, knock)

“Come in” Jenna opened the door. Marcus was leaning on a wall while he was sitting on his bed.

Marcus looked at her and said. “Look who’s finally decided to stop ghosting me.”

Jenna stood in front of the open door with both her hands behind her back and looking at Marcus.

“Are you going to stand there like a dummy or say something?”

“I came here to talk to you”

“Really? Weren’t you ignoring me the other day?” Marcus rebuked. Jenna ignored him and sat on his bed next.

“I was mad at you! Because after you yelled at me, I couldn’t control my emotions, just like you are doing right now.” Jenna stated.

There was a brief moment of silence from Marcus.

“I’m sorry! Is that what you wanted to hear?” Jenna shouted. She felt annoyed because Marcus was ignoring her.

Marcus also gelt annoyed by her shouting, he got off the bed and stood up looking all mad. He shrugged “What is it you want? Attention?” he yelled at her.

“None of them! All I want is for you to accept my fucking apologies” Jenna snapped back at him. He scratched his head because he wanted to tell her the truth but he was restraining himself to do so.

“When I said, no matter what you do to me, I’ll always love you! Does not give you the right to make me feel like shit” she pushed him but Marcus stood straight, tears were coming down from her eyes then she leaned her head on his chest.

He then slowly puts his palm on her head. “I’m sorry! the reason why I’m treating you like that is that I want you next to me forever.

“What are talking about? Our relationship is a secret.” She grumbled. Marcus kept on touching her hair with passion but she actually enjoyed being next to him. They made a promise to always stay together forever.

“Because your M-” Marcus got cut because he heard someone knocking at the door.

“Jenna.” She looked at him but her breathing was ragged but slow, a few tears were still coming down but eventually, she stopped crying and she took a deep breath.

“Yeah” she responded.

“Someone is knocking at the door, may I go?” Marcus said smiling down at her. She smiled but her head was still on his chest and then she looked up.

“Why do you bother asking? You can do whatever you want but you gotta remember to actually treat me like a real person.”

“I’ll keep that in mind forever,” Marcus responded and kissed her forehead.

Marcus left the room and went down the stairs to check on the door. He looks through the peephole “Who is this?” he said to himself.
