The engagement ceremony was quickly completed in no time. Taambulam (clothes, fruits, betel leaves and betel nut with turmeric and kumkum exchanged by the bride’s father and the groom’s father) was exchanged. The Purohits from both sides had consulted with each other and fixed an auspicious day for the marriage.
Time flew by and in no time the couple was united by the holy bond of marriage. It took almost twenty days to complete all the associated post marriage rituals before the couple was allowed to set up their new life together. Anantha Sarma had been appointed as an “Ethics in Life” Professor in the University college of Harshapuram. So, with the help of the elders from both sides, the couple moved into the staff quarters provided by the college.
