The Breakup

Maliah and I walked into the gym. At the back of the bleachers stood two people. One against the wall and the other towering over with one arm over the person's head. It looked like they were kissing.

My heart pounded with every step I took. I know this was my fault, but it didn't mean it didn't hurt to see the person you thought was everything to you with another person. The closer I got, the more I could see the person's back, the more confident I became. That back belongs to Ronnie.

I stopped to try and listen to a nonexistent conversation. All that echoed through the walls were lips coming in contact with each other. I should be angry, but all I felt was my chest tighten because it was clear that our relationship wasn't as strong as I thought it was.

I walked up to Ronnie, ready to end this once and for all. I tapped him on his shoulder. He turned around and took one glance at my face. He looked from top to bottom and turned back to see the girl with an annoyed face. He grabbed her face and kissed her passionately.

I huffed and rolled my eyes. I couldn't believe he was doing this right in front of me. Didn't he already do enough damage?

"Are you serious right now? You know what, fine, I didn't even want to talk to you".

I started to walk away when I heard footsteps behind me. I looked at Maliah, hoping I can reach her before the footsteps behind me reached me. I was a couple of feet from reaching her when I felt my arm being grabbed and pulled back.

" What! I gave you a chance to talk, and all you did was show how pathetic you are".

I could tell that he was happy because I was getting annoyed by him.

"Are you jealous that I was able to find someone who actually cares about me."

I scoffed at him

"Actually, I am happy that you found someone. That's why I came to find you. To tell you that the day I yelled at you, I really meant what I said. We are through; you didn't have to hide her."

He laughed

"Did you really think I was hiding her. From you? Ha! arent you conceited."

What was his deal. He was acting like a total prick.

"I am done talking to you. If you can't talk to me like the grown ass man that you are, then don't talk to me. I don't have time to be wasting it on a child having a tantrum".

I yanked my arm out of his hand and turned to walk away from this huge mistake.

" This wouldn't be the first time you ran away; that's what you're good at. I do want you to remember something from this experience. You're going to regret leaving me because you'll never find someone who loved you more than I did".

Now it was my turn to laugh.

" You didn't love me. If you did, you would have accepted everything about me, but you didn't; instead, you decided to love the part you only liked. That's not how relationships work, Ronnie. If you choose someone, you learn to love everything about the person, even the things you disagree with."

He didn't understand a thing about love. He never understood me or my love for not only him but also Zaphyr. He only went with it to see if his love would eventually outgrow the love I had for Zaphyr. He was better off with the girl behind the bleachers.

"Go. You have made your decision, as have I. We are no longer in a relationship".

As I walked out of the gym, I silently grieved the wasted time I had given Ronnie. I was true to the very end. I let a stranger in to only have my heartbroken and, in the end, to get nothing in return.

Lucky for me, we only had a couple of days left for the spring semester to end. Those days seemed to drag as I spotted Ronnie with his new girlfriend everywhere I went. It was as if the universe hated me. All I wanted was to go home and forget this ever happened. Ronnie never existed. It was all a figure of my imagination, and the hurt that I carried with me was all for not.

Summer vacation couldn't have come fast enough. I spent most of my days finding all the stuff that Ronnie had broken or ripped. Some of them were lost forever. I curse the day I ever met the prick. There was a specific collector's item that I was completely fond of that I couldn't find for the life of me.

The first time I got it, it was all due to luck. Someone had hidden it behind a shelf of kid toys. It was the perfect 3D glass cut out of Zaphyr. In the sun, it would paint my walls into a magnificent rainbow. It was a priceless treasure, and I didn't know how I would find another one. I searched every day for a week and came back with nothing. I posted a comment on one of Zaphyr's fan page to see if anyone knew about it or would be willing to sell one to me.

Finally, someone by the name of Renee sent me a link to a trivia contest. The winner would not only win the glass statue of Zaphyr, but would also win a week-long trip to meet Zaphyr face to face. I was indecisive. The link was too good to be true. Either it was a hoax from a fan, or it was infested with viruses.

The average smart person wouldn't have clicked the link. They wouldn't have entered the supposed competition. They really wouldn't have entered their private information. The good thing I am not the average smart person because I would have had a mini heart attack as soon as I clicked the submit button.

The supposed competition was in15 minutes. The rules were simple, answer as many questions about Zaphyr as possible within 60 seconds. That was simple enough. I knew Zaphyr like I knew the back of my hand.

The competition started and I poured my soul into it. I looked like a crazy person on steroids. All the fast typing from procrastinating paid off. I was answering every question as my life depended on it. The 60 seconds were up and the screen went blank. I jumped up looking to see if I might have disconnected my computer but everything was connected.

My heart sunk I broke my computer at the most crucial time of my life. I was about to grab my phone and throw it at my motor when a series of flashes popped on my screen. In big letters I read "Congratulations you are the winner"

I can't believe I won. I started to jump up and down. I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. This had never happened before. I had to calm down what if this was just a hoax. If it turned out to be fake I would lose my sanity. I started to read the fine print.

It seemed like the real deal. I would receive the items I won through snail mail. Not only would I get VIP services but I would also be Zaphyr's guest for the week. This has to be fake. How in the world was this possible. I am going to be in denial until I receive everything. There's just no way this is real. The supposed items would arrive in five business days. If in five days I don't receive anything then I was just scammed.
