It was just an average day for y/n, like every other before. She woke up to the blaring ring of her 6am alarm, and brushed her hair into a loose, messy bun (or similar). Opening her wardrobe, she took out the same clothes that she wore each day, and slipped them on. She walked down the stairs into her living area, and noticed a cream-coloured scroll laying on the dark blue rug, just in front of the birch doors.
"Huh?" she thought, carefully handling the delicate paper, picking up up off the ground.
It read:
Dear y/n,
Hello, I know you might think this is weird, and it may be very out of the ordinary but, you have a long lost cousin.
You probably think that I'm insane, but hear me out. My name is Toby (although everyone calls me Tubbo), and I have been looking into my family and my past, and there are links that lead to you. If this has even got to you, I would love to speak sometime. My number is ************
Your cousin,
Tubbo :)
"What?"
Surely not. This could not be real, could it? A long lost cousin? y/n was more than just a little skeptical, but it did feel genuine, with then hand drawn smiley face and all. Work could wait. y/n hesitated a lot, but then pushed the numbers into the keypad and dialled.
——
"Hello?" she said into the phone.
"Hey, is this y/n?" a boy's voice asked.
"Yes...Is this Tubbo?"
"That would be me...Hello long lost cousin, how are you?" he greeted happily.
"I'm good, but...is this real? It feels like I'm dreaming. I've never known any family before..." the girl was speechless.
"Yep, this is real," he assured her, " I was so excited to find out that I had a cousin, and around my age as well. I was adopted by my bestfriend's family. They found me in a box on the side of the road when I was young. I now live in a country called L'Manburg, with my bestfriend and his older brother. Their dad kinda left us for hardcore, and their oldest brother...well, we don't really know what he's up to," y/n listened intently as Tubbo explained his life story.
"I am so glad you are not a scam," she admitted, "The thought did cross my mind, I admit. I have heard of L'Manburg. Didn't you guys like, have a war?"
"You would be correct, we fought to be an independent country. What about your story?" he sounded curious.
"Mine is nothing compared to yours," y/n relaxed a little, "I live a very quiet, and pretty boring life. I don't have any good friends, and I never knew my family. I lived in an orphanage until I was 10, and then I escaped and have cared for myself since then."
"Sounds like you've had it pretty tough then," he sympathised.
"Not too bad. Unfortunately I have to go and work soon, but it was lovely speaking with you. Hope you have a lovely time in L'Manburg!"
I will do. But y/n, I wanted to ask you something. I know where you live is miles away from us..." y/n wondered where he was going with this, "would you like to join L'Manburg?"
y/n was in shock.
"I-I Tubbo... of course, if you'd have me there!"
"Sure we would! It would probably take like a week on horseback for me to get to you and then for us to travel for L'Manburg, and I would have to ask a guy called Dream, but I'd love to give you a less boring life," he explained happily.
"Tubbo...I've spoken to you for about 10 minutes, but thank you so much! I'd love to join L'Manburg!"
"Then I'll see you in two weeks," he uttered, but was unable to contain his happiness.
"Bye Tubbo."
——
y/n hung up, jaw dropping in shock at the conversation she had just had. She struggled to process the fact that, not only did she find out she had a cousin, but she would be moving to his country to live there with him... and his friends. She looked to wave goodbye to her boring life, and say hello to a new action-packed life. It was the most unexpected thing to happen to her. She could not comprehend how much her life was about to change...
