War!

Song/s: There are no songs but go watch the SADist animatic Dawn of the 16th. It's SOOOOO GOOD.

Trigger warning/s: Explosions, mild amounts of swearing, death, alcoholism, weapons, fighting (um yep, that's a lot)

Word count: [3553] (my god that's a lot of words :O)

——

It was time.

For the last ten days they had prepared tirelessly, putting in effort to train, gathering powerful weapons and armour. Today it would all change.

Would it be the end of JSchlatt's reign? Would they lose and Wilbur would blow Manburg up? They didn't know. But either way, it would be the end of something. They were ready to fight.

——

"It's nearly time for war!" Tubbo called to Tommy and y/n. They were in Pogtopia, making their final preparations.

We stick with each other, no matter what," Tommy said solemnly.

"We do, we need to be safe," y/n agreed.

But it was now, or never.

Techno let Tommy know that they were meeting at the pink tower. He rolled his eyes. Techno and Tommy, along with y/n, still weren't exactly on the best terms since the festival. y/n spoke to him, barely, but Tommy didn't at all.

"Let's go then!" Tubbo exclaimed, conpleting his final enchantment, "You got everything?"

"Yep, ready as we'll ever be," y/n responded.

The trio made their way over to the tower, and were greeted by everyone.

Wilbur, Techno, Niki, Quackity and Fundy were stood in a circle. y/n, Tommy and Tubbo joined them.

"So what's everyone's opinion on me blowing everything up?" Wilbur asked, stifling a laugh.

"Not this again," Niki, Quackity and y/n sighed.

"Sounds pretty pog," Techno uttered. However, everyone heard, and turned to him, shocked expressions slapped across their faces.

"No!"

"Techno!"

They were outraged at his comment.

"Look, for the last time, we din't have to blow up anything, ok. We're together. Dream isn't fighting with passion, he's fighting because he gets to look cool," Tommy announced courageously.

"But Tommy listen," Quackity started, "We have to remember something, there's a traitor, and it's one of us."

The said nothing, but looked around at each other, everyone seeming to interrogate one another with their eyes.

"I mean, it's probably me, the logic kinda makes sense and-

"Hello," Wilbur was interrupted by a familiar deep voice, as they emerged from behind a nearby hill.

——

"Eret?" Niki questioned, surprised.

Fundy had a small smile upon his face.

"Oh look who it is, our old friend Eret! Kind of ironic considering the subject of our conversation!" Wilbur joked sarcastically.

"I'm getting deja vu," Tubbo added quietly.

"Just listen to me."

Wilbur continued laughing, as everyone else went silent. They could at least have respect, if nothing else.

"Please, hear him out," Fundy advised, causing everyone to glance at him slightly confused for a moment.

"I am no longer king," Eret stated.

Questioning murmurs were spread amongst the group.

"Because I chose to see what's right over... loyalty to Dream," he continued.

They gasped.

"So... you just let him take everything away?" Wilbur questioned.

"There isn't one day in which I haven't sat, regretting my actions from not too long ago. Not one. I should've denied Dream long ago, chosen my loyalties right. And I've paid."

All of them stood silently, suddenly aware of the armour which weighed their bodies, aware of the tree which stood next to them, but none of them spoke a word.

y/n was wrong.

About Eret, about Dream, about a lot of things. Eret wasn't arrogant, or selfish. He'd just made a mistake. Dream on the other hand... was well, mysterious. No one knew what he was thinking, predicting... planning.

But now wasn't the time.

——

"Even more of a reason we don't have to blow it up!" Tommy reemphasised as the group ambled back over to Pogtopia.

Once they arrived, the group crowded onto the small platform.

"We need to pool our stuff together, because we've got a war to win," Tommy motivated.

They started discussing who needs what, until Techno stopped them.

"I have all the supplies we need, I've been preparing for the last month for this, I could tell it was coming, we do not lack items," Techno announced, handing people back various swords and other weapons.

"Wait, really?" y/n questioned a little skeptically.

"Yes. Everyone, follow me!"

Techno urged everyone out of Pogtopia. They followed his lead, ending up in a small underwater base.

Why hadn't he told them sooner?

——

They swam to a small hole in the sea bed, assisting each other (well, mostly Tubbo, he wasn't exactly the best swimmer).

Eventually, the found themselves in a dark room, surrounded by chests. It was a little but cramped, but not too bad (honestly writing this is reminding me about the amount of deja vu I got whilst watching this scene).

"There's hardly anything in the chests!" Tommy exclaimed over the top of the eager conversation.

"Wait um... considering what you just said, I don't know how to feel about this..." Tubbo murmured, memories of 'the final night' resurfacing. Fundy nodded in agreement, whilst Eret turned bright red.

"No wait! That's my normal stuff, don't take that," Techno informed, sliding down a ladder.

The rest followed hesitantly, in a disorderly fashion.

"Wait nevermind," Fundy said, eyes wide.

They entered the large room, filled to the brim with chests filled with rare and impressive items, and most surprising of all, several gleaming sets if enchanted netherite armour, stood proudly at the front centre of the room.

"I'm ready for revolution boys!" Techno yelled somewhat eagerly.

They all cheered and gasped, taking things from the chests as they registered their surroundings.

y/n was overwhelmed, as she searched through, grabbing arrows, food and a sword. Maybe Techno could be forgiven after all.

"Guys, we've got the Blade!" Tommy cheered, followed by a repeated chorus.

As everyone left, y/n stayed back. She was most certainly ready for war now, but she had something to say to Techno.

"I'm sorry Techno," she blurted.

"Um what?"

"About the whole pit thing. I really had it wrong about you too!" y/n glanced around, still in awe at Techno's great preparations skills.

"Um... that's okay. Sometimes you need to just get your anger out. It was just a spur of the moment, it's fine," he explained awkwardly. Like he'd said, he wasn't the most socially apt person.

"Thanks."

"No problem, it stays in the pit."

y/n walked off and caught up with the rest of the group.

Techno lagged behind, face faltering slightly.

——

They all ran across the cobblestone railway eagerly, lead by Tommy. It was sundown, and they knew the war had officially started, when arrows rained down from the skies.

——

"He's up there!" Fundy yelled as everyone desperately ducked, avoiding the outpour of arrows.

They ducked for cover, strategising as they shouted to one another different plans.

"Storm the tower!" Quackity yelled.

"Yes, we've got to storm the tower!" Wilbur repeated, as they made their way inside the bottom floor of the tower, and started climbing up the ladder, fumbling messily.

They got to the top floor.

"Guys they're here!" Tubbo informed, "It's Schlatt, Dream, Karl and-

A cloud of grey smoke blew in his face, causing Tubbo to cough slightly.

"They're gone," he informed, as everyone stood beside him.

y/n looked over the railings as she spotted Dream firing from below.

"Cover!" she screamed, causing everyone to duck down in time, barely missing the wave of arrows.

"Don't worry, we've go the high ground," Wilbur assured.

"We have the high ground!" a chorus of people chanted.

They took shots, some hitting, but most missing.

"This isn't working, should some of us go down there?" Tommy asked.

"Yes, it's our only choice," Wilbur decided

——

y/n's feet hit the water beneath her, closely followed by Tommy and Tubbo, and then Techno, Quackity and Niki.

"One injured," Techno informed as a firework fizzled out.

"Good job Techno!" Wilbur called, still firing from the tower.

Whilst everyone was distracted fighting others, Dream advanced on y/n.

——

"Hello Dream," she turned around quickly.

"y/n."

"I know you aren't an enemy."

"Not strictly speaking."

"Then why are you here?"

"It's my job."

"I'll make you a deal then, how about we have a duel instead? Like, a contest," y/n reasoned.

"I never said I would attack you, but you're challenging me."

"Yes, yes I am," her voice did not falter one bit. This may have been a stupid idea, but Techno hadn't trained her up for nothing.

"Okay I accept. Winner takes all kid."

——

They both pulled out their swords. Dream was fast as lightning, taking the first hit in an instant. But y/n was faster. She blocked his hit with her shield, pushing him back slightly.

He quickly regained his balance. y/n took a hit at him, but Dream managed to dodge. The two of them brought their swords up, clashing against each other with a loud clank noise. This continued for a while, advancing and blocking with their swords.

Unexpectedly, Dream changed the direction of his hits, pushing y/n back, causing the girl to fall to the ground.

But was she going to give up?

No, not ever. If there was one thing that Techno had taught her, it was that to continue trying is always the best solution. And she still had a lot of strength to go.

The girl jumped up from the ground, adrenaline truly kicking in, racing through her body. She jumped up, and with a single hit, sliced Dream's mask in half, so that some of his face was exposed.

"Congrats kid," he muttered, brushing himself off and walking away, slightly embarrassed.

(YOOOOOOOO SUCK IT GREEN BOYYYY)

——

"Woah!" Tommy awed.

y/n turned around to see Tommy, Tubbo and Techno standing in total shock.

"What happened?" Techno asked.

"I um... I kinda challenged Dream to a duel," she scratched the back of her neck, "AND WON!"

Tommy and Tubbo lost their cool for a moment and jumped in celebration.

"Insane," Techno muttered under his breath.

"Dream came up to me and was being all weird so I was like, wanna duel? And he was like, sure," y/n was explaining to the three of them.

"We leave you for one minute," Techno sighed, "I must've taught you well."

The four of them ambled back over to the tower.

"Guys we're winning!" Wilbur informed them as the group met back up.

Some of them argued his point, but y/n disagreed. In her eyes, they were winning. She struggled to process what had just happened. She had beaten Dream in a duel, the Dream!

Thinking of Dream, he was walking up to them now.

He congratulated y/n, as he shook her hand.

"YOU just accepted defeat to the youngest here!" Tommy mocked, laughing.

"She's a better fighter than you would think. I need to speak to Wilbur, do you know where he is?"

They all shook their heads, as Wilbur appeared from behind them.

"I'm here," he called, as Dream followed him to a quieter area.

The group waited silently in anticipation, however unable to eavesdrop into their conversation.

——

Soon after, they arrived back.

"Wilbur you better not have made a deal with the devil," Tommy warned, causing Dream to let out a stifled laugh.

"No listen to me," Dream began, "I thought that fighting with Schlatt would be good. I gave him like, full netherite armour-but... just follow me."

The group spoke between them, whilst they followed Dream. None of them had any idea what was happening.

From closer inspection, it looked as if Dream was leading them towards the Camarvan.

"We... would like to surrender, because JSchlatt... he's an idiot," Dream announced.

"No it's because a girl beat you in-

"TOMMY FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE SHUT UP!" Dream yelled slightly angrily. He opened the door to the Camarvan without another word.

——

They entered the van cautiously, thinking it might be a trap, but instead they saw Schlatt, sat on the floor. He looked like he was unaware of... anything.

Every single person made an effort to pile into the van, as they exchanged many confused glances with one another.

"You-you found Schlatt?" Fundy questioned.

Dream didn't respond, but continued to observe Schlatt.

Schlatt coughed violently, staring down at the ground. From closer inspection, it was clear to see he had a bottle in his hand, containing some kind of brown liquid. y/n recognised the liquid instantly as the same as the liquid which Wilbur was drinking just months ago.

Schlatt turned and faced them all, he looked bewildered.

"Wilbur?" He questioned.

"Schlatt... what are you doing?"

"What-what's going on?"

Everyone stood, and waited.

——

"Schlatt, what are you doing in the van?"

He spoke, but his words were slurred and inaudible. He continued drinking, and seemed to be yelling at Fundy. Wilbur stepped in front of him in a protective manner.

"Do you still have Dream's bow?" he asked, turning to Tommy.

"I do," Tommy confirmed, getting out his bow.

"Tommy I want, I want you to put the bow between his eyes," Wilbur instructed.

Tommy did as Wilbur said, but his thoughts stopped him in his tracks.

"Wilbur do I shoot him or do I-

"Just do it Tommy."

How a man could change.

But Tommy always did what Wilbur said, and so he didn't follow his heart this time. He still contemplated his decision.

"If I die... this country goes down with me," Schlatt slurred his speech.

"No it doesn't Schlatt," Tommy replied.

"Oh Tommyinnit you don't even want to know..."

"Just do it Tommy," Wilbur urged.

Schlatt coughed violently once again, wheezing (no, not in that way) and rasping.

"Does anyone smell toast?"

Tubbo looked at y/n questioningly, and then y/n to Niki. Niki mouthed "I'll tell you later."

And then Schlatt lay down.

——

"Is he-

"Yes, he is," Niki confirmed, inspecting his body (my Niki medic headcannon is once again thriving).

"So, we've won?" y/n said, unsure.

"WE'VE WON!" Tommy yelled. This was followed by a chaotic mess of shouting and hugging between the group.

"WE DID IT!"

"YEAAAH WE KILLED AN OLD MAN WITH A HEART ATTACK!"

Everyone laughed at Techno's comment, and glanced around Manburg.

L'Manburg.

They took their heavy armour off, placing it on the ground of in enderchests.

They'd won.

——

The mess of people made their way over to the L'Manburg podium.

Niki explained that Schlatt had a heart attack due to his excessive consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, and that smelling toast was a common symptom, to Tubbo and y/n, as they walked over.

The three of them joined Wilbur and Tommy shortly after.

"Tommy, please take your place on the podium," Wilbur finished just as they started listening.

Tommy looked around at them all, slightly confused and surprised. Wide smiles spread across both Tubbo and y/n's face as he stepped up.

"Or should I say, President Innit." (I'M SORRY I CAN'T I JUST LAUGHED ABOUT THAT FOR THREE MINUTES)

"R-really Wilbur?" he stared at his brother, eyes wide.

"Yes Tommy."

Everyone cheered for him as he started to walk towards the steps. He was embraced in a small hug by Tubbo and his ocean blue eyes shone in the sunlight.

But they faded soon after.

——

He cleared his throat, but in a kind way (pls don't question me, I put in a kind way since I relate clearing of throats with Schlatt's character and I didn't want to give that impression, okay).

"Hey everyone..." the blond-haired boy began, "Well um... it looks like we won!"

y/n examined her surroundings. Tubbo sat to the left of her, happy beyond belief for his best friend. She smiled too. To the right of her were Niki and Fundy, cheering and clapping. She was glad to see the two of them had made up. A few seats behind sat Wilbur. He was muttering something inaudible under his breath.

She didn't question it though, and embraced the moment, high-fiving Tubbo, and listening to Tommy's speech.

"I'd say that, even after all the hardships and tyranny we've been through, it was in fact, meant to be."

This comment gathered many cheers, including a small chuckle from Eret at the new use of the line.

"I would like to thank everyone, and thank you Wilbur for-for making me the president, and I know-I know you said I would never be. And Wilbur... look I'll admit, I can't be the president."

Everyone gasped.

"Why not?"

"Because," his gaze shot to Dream, "You still have those discs. I can't do this, until we're done Dream. Once I've got those discs back, then I'll be done. So Wilbur... after all you've been through, I know you've had your points, when everyone thought you were going to blow everything up... but I know, that's all just talk now. Wilbur, please take your place on the podium.

Tommy changed places with Wilbur, and he started speaking, but y/n hardly listened, only to the thoughts in her head. Those discs meant more to Tommy than she, or anyone, could ever know. It was enough to give up his presidency.

She was going to help him get them back, and so would Tubbo.

She listened back into the speech.

"Tubbo, I'd like you to come up onto the stage."

——

y/n's eyes averted immediately to Tubbo, who was making his way, taking Wilbur's place on the podium. She smiled the widest she had in a while, clapping and cheering, along with everybody else. This was certainly a strange turn of events...

But not an unwanted one.

"Uhm...okay I," Tubbo stepped up to the microphone hesitantly, "Well I- I've been put on the spot here. I wasn't expecting to be...um-surrounded here with friends, family and uh... enemies, who I don't dislike all that much I'll be honest. Thank you everyone, um-I don't do speeches but, it's been an honour."

"YES TUBBO!" Tommy yelled excitedly.

More loud cheering and clapping commenced. Maybe today was a happy day, and Wilbur hadn't gone insane after all.

Maybe...

"I'm gonna be honest, I don't really know what a president does," Tubbo continued, but y/n stopped listening.

Where was Wilbur, thinking of him? He wasn't where he had been, in his seat, barely minutes ago.

An unwanted chill ran through her body.

"Hey, do you know where Wilbur's gone?" y/n turned to Quackity in the seat behind her.

"No I don't he probably just went to get something for Tubbo or-I don't know."

Well, he clearly didn't know Wilbur well enough then.

He was unpredictable.

——

As everyone was distracted listening to Tubbo, y/n gathered her thoughts and snuck off. She had a feeling she knew where Wilbur might be, and it certainly wasn't a good one.

She knew exactly where to-

No.No.No

y/n stood in shock as she saw the very thing she had feared.

Wilbur was standing in the button room, hand on button. He seemed to be whispering something. She moved closer.

"And there was a special place. WAS a special place."

y/n didn't understand.

They'd won, hadn't they?

She didn't know wether to stay put, run, or try and stop him.

Stopping him would be worthless, and she'd just draw attention to herself by running, so she stayed put.

She'd hoped he wasn't too far gone.

But it was too late.

He was yelling things now, shouting at the walls (I'm editing and just realised this *sigh* because the walls don't fucking love you). But y/n didn't move a muscle.

She ducked out of sight just as a figure approached. She managed to catch a sight of him, not recognising him at all.

He was quite old (omg I need to stop!! He is married to a woman that is interesting) and tall, older than anyone else y/n had seen around here. He looked slightly god-like, bearing angel's wings on his back, and a sharp, thin sword.

"What are you doing?" the man asked.

"Phil?"

That name sounded familiar.

But it couldn't be...

"Wilbur... you-you fought so hard to get this land back. I know more about you than you would think, son."

It was the Phil. Philza, father to Wilbur, Tommy and Techno.

y/n's phone started ringing. It was Fundy. She declined, but it gave her position away.

"Who's there?" Wilbur asked threateningly.

"Will I-I didn't think you would do this," y/n sighed, stepping out of hiding spot.

"Look y/n now's-

"Kid. I don't know what you have to do with my son, but please, run. Be safe and don't look back," Phil urged.

She took his advice in an instant, running as fast as her legs could carry her.

She saw Niki, and ran over to her, she was saying something about Techno and a traitor. y/n tried to tell her, but she didn't get a word in...

Before a deafening blast rang through the air...

A/N: Phew. This was a long chapter. I'm leaving on a cliffhanger (well, not really, if you know what happened). Hope you enjoyed and thank you for sticking around. If you enjoyed a vote would be greatly appreciated. According to Wattpad satistics, only 34% of people vote on these chapters. It's free and you can always unvote later! (not me thinking I'm funny)

I wrote some of this instead of an essay in English lol. x
