Rebuild

Song/s: None

Trigger warning/s: Slight implications of Wilbur being the neglected child (since this is a sleepy bois family book, that's one of my headcannons).

"Morning!" y/n stumbled out her temporary tent and waved to Tubbo, Karl, Fundy (animal crossing vibes ngl).

"Hey y/n!" Tubbo greeted the girl.

"How long of you been here?" she questioned, looking around at the good amount of progress they had made already.

"Oh, only like an hour or so," the boy lied unconvincingly.

It didn't look like an hours work, that was for sure, but y/n didn't press them further on the matter.

"Welcome to new L'Manburg!" Tubbo said enthusiastically and with a sense of pride in his tone, "It's far from finished, but we've made a start."

Tubbo guided y/n around the new areas, explaining and giving details of each area. The girl listened intently, unable to help but to notice the newfound authority in Tubbo's voice and mannerisms.

"These lanters are cool!" y/n exclaimed, examining one of them closely, "Who made these?"

"To be honest, we don't actually know," Tubbo admitted, pondering for a few moments, "Did any of you make these?"

Karl and Fundy, along with y/n, all shook their heads.

"Anyways, I was going to help but it looks like you've done everything already," y/n sighed.

"True, but me and Karl plan to build some houses later. You could help us then, but not yet."

"Okay! It is only eight am after all, catch you later!" she headed off back to her tent.

"Bye y/n!" Karl waved politely.

——

It was early nigh time now. Tubbo Karl and y/n had just finished up building a house. They weren't sure who would live in it yet, but they needed to build accommodation for people, so they didn't have to live in tents anymore.

"Good work guys!" Tubbo said, fist-bumping both of them.

"You too Tubbo. I've got plans with Big Q tonight, I'll see you guys soon for some more building!" Karl waved, turning to leave L'Manburg.

The two of them waved back, and around two minutes later, he was gone.

——

"y/n," Tubbo said, gaining the girl's attention.

"Yeah?"

"I hope it will be better now. No more wars, conflict, TNT... I want L'Manburg to really show why I brought you here, because sure, it did for a while, but then that all changed, and I've blamed myself since," the boy spoke, with a sad smile on his face.

"Me too. The last thing I expected was wars, exiles, betrayals, y'know. I did want adventure, and I sure as hell have had enough of that to last a lifetime," y/n laughed slightly.

"So you aren't mad at me for this?" Tubbo asked, surprised.

"Of course I'm not mad at you Tubbo. Everything happens for a reason, and you've already given me so many new opportunities, and even though it could have gone better, it could have also gone worse, so I'm thankful, more than anything!" y/n exclaimed.

Tubbo was happier knowing this, as a small weight was lifted off his shoulders. He blamed himself less.

And y/n's words were nothing but the truth. Although she'd watched as her friends were separated, some turning insane, and then a war, with betrayal and death, she was thankful. She was thankful to have a cousin like Tubbo, and friends like Tommy, Fundy, Niki and so many more. The letter had changed everything.

——

"We should probably go and find Tommy then," Tubbo suggested, snapping y/n out of her thoughts.

She gave a small nod and the two of them set off, eventually ending up at Tommy's house. He'd be here more often now. They knocked on his door.

"Hey Tommy!" the cousins greeted as he opened it, and invited them inside.

He greeted them and they decided to head back into L'Manburg, just to chill out for a while. However, they were stopped dead in their tracks, as a pretty familiar looking man, wearing a pale yellow jumper and an iconic red beanie floated? up to them.

——

"Wilbur?" Tommy questioned, his voice almost a whisper, as the ghostly figure shone in the moonlight.

"Um... Who's Wilbur? I-I'm Ghostbur," his voice sounded like Wilbur's, but it sounded more tired and broken.

"Huh?" all three of them were lost for words as they examined the pale man closely.

"I-I died, don't you remember, that makes me a ghost now," Ghostbur replied, a certain confusion in his voice too.

"We know, it's just..."

"I can explain, but first, I want to show you some things I built for-for L'Manburg. Please be proud of me!" Ghostbur pleaded, "No one has ever told me that before!"

The ghost glided over to the Camarvan, urging the three of them to follow.

"Look, I rebuilt it!" he exclaimed proudly, grinning like a child who'd just won a certificate.

"Wil-Ghostbur, it-it's lovely. You're doing a great job for L'Manburg!" Tubbo matched Ghostbur's enthusiasm.

"I've been building lots of things, look!" he pointed to the lanterns which now lit up the night skies, "I used to make these with Phil... well, when he wasn't busy with Techno, anyways."

y/n grinned. The lanterns made him happy. This new ghost Wilbur was a somewhat wholesome character, enough to light up anyone's day.

It explained where the lantwrns had come from.

"You've made it really nice!" y/n explained, attempting to match Ghostbur's energy.

"Thank you! Look, I'll be honest, I don't really know why I'm a ghost. I remember I died but... that's it," Ghostbur admitted.

"What do you remember?" Tommy asked.

"I have a book if things I remember, which reminds me! Would you all like to come to my library in my house?"

"We would love to, Ghostbur."

The ghost lead them into his house in the sewers, it smelt pretty bad, but apart from the stench, it was pretty homely.

——

"So this is my library, what books would you like to see?" Ghostbur asked, taking a seat on his stool beside his small fireplace.

"Could we see the book about what you remember?" y/n suggested.

"Of course!" he smiled, picking up the book and handing it to the girl. She read it out loudly so everyone could hear. It read:

I don't know

——

"So you remember that?"

"Yes I'm trying to piece everything together."

"Have you got any other interesting books?" y/n asked curiously. She remembered that before everything, Wilbur had shown her some interesting books from before she had arrived.

"I have lots of books from the revolution and..." Ghostbur was deep in though for a second, "Oh, Tommy, is there something you would like to explain? I have a book of your which is called How-

"No,no,no, just... we don't-just leave it for another day," the boy urged nervously.

"Okay, another day then."

y/n was curious about the book, but decided to leave it be. She was tired after the events of the past few days, and so she wanted to get back to her tent again.

"I'm pretty tired, I think I'm gonna call in for the night, bye!" the girl announced, yawning.

"Goodnight y/n!"

"If you want, you could always bring your bed and sleep in my basement, if it gets too cold or anything?" Tommy offered.

"No, it'll be fine, but thanks for the offer Tommy!"

"No problem, see you tomorrow!"

She waved to them, climbing out from Ghostbur's sewer house, and heading back to her tent. y/n took a moment, stopping to stare at the stars. The future was looking up now.
