Commencing Side Quest

"Uncle Zong, do you think that the other children are going to be fine?" Feng Mian hesitantly asked in a sincere tone that didn't seem to hold any deeper meaning or scheming. Ye Zong expected this after all she was only a little girl, a kind hearted and naive one as well. She must be shocked that the Sacred family actually did such a thing and also worried about the orphans.

In an effort to soothe the little fiancee of his son and the daughter of his best friend, he patted her head while squatting down to her in order to be on the same eye height as her and said "Don't worry Feng Mian, I've already sent my aids to the warehouse and they will be rescued soon. You know how strong my aids are, right? They will be able to save them."

Feng Mian looked at Ye Zong with now tearing eyes, as she asked Ye Zong once more "Will they continue to live on the streets? That would be sad Uncle Zong. I don't want them to live there. It gets really chilly at night. What if they catch a cold?"

This shocked Ye Zong. He didn't expect her to think so far or be concerned about the orphans, after all it wasn't as if she hadn't know before that orphans existed. Why was she suddenly concerned? It wasn't as if they could do anything for it was life after all. Some were born strong and would live like phoenixes and dragons while others were destined to be crawling on the ground fighting for their own survival.

It is the survival of the fittest. If you were born fortunate with either talent, a background or both, that is good for you. However if you possessed neither of these, you are destined to fight on your own. Others helping you would help only for a certain time period. What would you do if you one day lost said support? You would be helpless and weak.

That's why the upper class of Glory City didn't help its citizens. Why help if it will let them become weak? Or even more extreme thoughts would be why even bother to look at those ants. Often in their thought process, they would forget that even a good background can crumble and talent can only get you so far if you din't work hard to cultivate it.

In some way one could say that Glory City was quite stable. But that statement was only true for the social structure. Apart from a few independent achievers who would get strong to establish their own clan, most people's position in society wasn't different from their ancestor's position when Glory City was founded. There was virtually no social mobility in Glory City.

Sure every now and then a noble clan would fall out grace and become weak but the saying 'A starving camel is still bigger than a horse' was very much true. No matter how deep they fall noble families would still do better than commoners and their status would raise after marrying the right people for a while.

Take for example Xiao Ning'er's clan, the Winged Dragon Family, even though their family was slowly falling out of grace, they were able to establish a marriage between themselves and the Sacred Family. This connection with another noble family (a Major family even!) would allow them to slowly raise up to their former position.

Or Nie Li's clan, the Heavenly Marks Family, even if Nie Li didn't change and Glory City didn't fall, they would still be able to distinguish themselves from commoners due to their wealth and would have some of their children marry other nobles.

Meaning no matter how low their position may be within their class, they won't be the same as commoners due to their connections and generational wealth. Commoners didn't have that.

Even if they had talent, they would have to join a noble family in order to gain resources. If they had wealth, they still wouldn't be able to make strong connections with the nobles. What if they had wealth and talent, well then they would be the first to be hit by the next Beast Hoard. This wasn't only true for Glory City but most societies in books that were of the same genre as TDG.

The only thing that would enable people to move up in society was a plot armor, the one thing a protagonist never lacks. Unfortunate for average people, they were able to cultivate their plot armor. It was determined by birth. Only huge disturbances - huh protagonists huh - could alter the plot armor of the people of these dimensions, for the better or worse.

Feng Mian having realized the thinking of Ye Zong and the reason behind this decided to use her seeming naivety to her advantage.

"Uncle Zong, can I build a home for them? It would be difficult for them to continue to live on the streets without any help at all. How can they survive on their own?" Feng Mian looked at Ye Zong with pleading eyes.

Ye Zong considered Feng Mian suggestion seriously. Despite the previous ranting, nobles sometimes did charity and would be marked by their fellow nobles as naive or stupid if said noble is to be an adult. Usually they would say that the whole family organized the charity, however in truth more often than not it would be "over compassionate" children who wanted to help the others.

Did the charity have any effect? Of course not. It was a noble child's plaything. The family usually used this to teach them a lesson to show them that everything was destined and would hand all the administrative things to the child only providing some money and servants. Even with money, how could a 5 to 9 year old noble child take care of other people, when they can't even take care of themselves?

Commoner adults knew of the fact that an institution organized by a child won't really help them and would readily exploit them until it collapses. Orphans on the other hand who hadn't experienced such things before would go to such institutions hoping for nonexistent help and would learn from this experience.

However, Feng Mian wasn't a normal child. She is someone who has livid a previous life before and has the most cheat like system in existence, the ROB System. With a fully completed step by step guide on how to build an orphanage which is provided by the system with additional counseling, it is as easy as breathing for her to establish a fully functioning institution.

Ye Zong as expected believed this was a great opportunity to teach Feng Mian a valuable lesson for the future as she was set to be the wife of the future City Lord and decided Ye Han to join in order for him to also learn from this and keep her company.

"That sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, I will be busy with handling other duties. Since you are such a smart girl, why don't you and Ye Han build an orphanage for the children? I will give you some money and will lend you some of my aids. Do you think you can do it?"

"Thank you Uncle Zong. Han Ge and I will do our best to make this orphanage the best you've ever seen and build a home for the other children."

Feng Mian nodded eagerly and thanked Ye Zong promising to do her best. Without knowing, Ye Han is now going to help build an orphanage.

Since Ye Han is now going to participate in such a project with Feng Mian, Ye Zong called him in. As he entered, he was welcomed by a very excited Feng Mian who held his hand while skipping.

"Han Ge, we are going to build an orphanage." Feng Mian announced this excitedly with a big smile.
