A Strange Theory

I woke up earlier than usual the next day. Edward wanted me to meet up with him and Specter to discuss what Warmonger managed to pull out of Heviks.

Our meeting spot was an armory next to our homes. We didn't allow anyone to come near or inside of it without our permission.

From inside the armory, I could hear Specter's robotic voice speaking to Edward.

I took a deep breath and twisted the cold handle.

Edward quickly turned to see who entered and was glad to see me, "Early bird gets the worm, Finch. Now come here and sit down, we got one crazy theory here."

A theory? And a crazy one as well. Edward wasn't in his playful mood, instead he sounded more serious. Of course, this interested me.

I shut the door behind me and stepped inside, "Well, I'm here. What's the theory?"

"Have you ever heard of the town named Desyn?" Specter's robotic voice sent a shiver down my spine.

"The same one who's citizens slowly disappeared?"

"Yeah, that one. I didn't notice this earlier, but since a month ago our Stronghold's population slowly decreased. Just like Desyn's."

My eyes widened. This was true. Not enough people went missing to make it notable, but just enough to make you wonder where they went.

Someone violently knocked on the door. Their fists made sounds similar to thunder. Despite how early it was and how loud the banging was, all three of us felt safe.

Edward calmly turned to look at the door, "Come in!"

Warmonger stepped inside. There was an enormous smile on her face and her hands were peppered with blood.

She laughed like a maniac and looked at Specter, "I beat him hard enough to get information out of him. Three months ago, Heviks was exploring a nearby town with a friend. Then they got jumped by a pack of Savages, which killed his friend and they threatened him."

Edward's smile sparked up once again, "Oh? How long ago? Three? That's odd, these things took place around the same time."

"Yeah, but how did they threaten Heviks?" I quickly replied.

"He would join his friend if he didn't give them info about us. If he handed info over, they would give him a spot in their group and freedom to do whatever he wanted to." Warmonger thought about what she just said.

They weren't wrong, this was becoming a crazy theory, "Huh. Well, do we have more evidence?"

Specter placed their hand over my shoulder and nodded their head.

"Savages are connected to both events-" Specter dug deep into their mind for more connections, "and they dislike being told what to do."

"Wait, we never completely took out all the Desyn Savages, right?" Edward brought up a good point.

We never did.

Our only objective was to take out whatever Savages we found. Never to wipe them all.

Warmonger slammed her fist against the wall, "SEE? THIS IS WHY I TOLD YOU WAS GOING TO HAPPEN! IF WE DIDN'T CLEAR THIS ENTIRE AREA OF THOSE SAVAGES! BUT BECAUSE YOU FAVOR DEFENDER MORE THAN ME YOU LISTENED TO HER!"

I quickly tried to defuse Warmonger's rage, "W-wait, Athena we could clear them all out now. Just like you wanted to. Besides, this is a wake up call. We should listen to everyone before making judgment."

"How cute, you're calling Warmonger by her real name. And you also want to make them two listen to each other? I thought I was the one with crazy ideas here." Edward laughed at me.

Warmonger's unearthly eyes cut right into me, "I don't want to listen to her. She thinks peace then power is better than outright strength. How did she even make it into the DRT?"

Specter violently grabbed Warmonger by her arm and pulled her back to them, "Warmonger, you should know better than to question who I employ. Be a good girl and leave, try to get whatever you can from Heviks."

Warmonger didn't respond. She opened the door and walked away.

All three of us were alone again.

"Was it needed to do that to her?" I muttered to myself.

Specter somehow heard me, "The fighting on the outside and on the inside doesn't make this feel any less like its own frontline. Ever since their first fight, I've tried to calm them both down. It never worked."

"Alright so, a quick overview. We think they promised Heviks something, and out of fear. He took the bait-" Edward nodded to make sure we were following along, "So now we are going to finish the Desyn Savages."

Specter raised a hand, and a black metal thumb pointed out.

"How will we find out where these guys are at?"

"Oh, Finch! That woman that just walked out is our key to knowing. All we need to do is promise her a spot in the raid. If they have control over a point that big, of course."

Edward got up from his chair and left the armory.

"You will have your first raid since we moved her, Raider." Specter chuckled and followed Edward.

I was alone in the room. I guess I am going to have to do a raid again. But I don't really mind, I love doing them.

"Congratulations, Finch. You have been awarded the honorable task of finishing a task that should have been done a long time ago, killing the remaining Savages of the town." I let that thought sit for a while in my mind.
