Angered Shadows

My first time attacking since the invasion. But it's about time, I was getting bored.

While Finch attacked a base at Griffin's Rest, I had to punch through the front lines. Can't let Downpour assume there's another faction after them.

All of my men steadily followed behind me. No one from my original attack team was with me. I ordered them to follow Jenna instead.

Bright lights got into view.

I raised my hand and stopped walking. "There it is. We'll punch right through it."

"How will we do that, sir?" One of my fighters nervously asked me.

"I enjoy working alone. Distract them with up-front attacks. Try to survive. I'll sneak up from behind and... well, I shouldn't say, wouldn't be a surprise if I did. Just know when a body flies over that gate, it's your cue to break in."

Silence fell over the group. No one seemed to mind that I was doing the hard work. I assigned a group leader and began silently walking around the base.

I memorized whatever I could. My walk helped me form a plan. The back appears to be the least defended, only about five Downpour patrolling that part.

Most of the shadows were over towards the back as well. Perfect for me.

I waited for the first hail of arrows. Waited, waited, and waited. And then, a second moon formed above the base.

From afar, I could hear arrows landing. Now, I begin my attack. Those arrows caught the attention of all five guards.

A silver murderous snake wrapped around me and weighed me down, I couldn't climb too fast.

I reached down to press a button on my wrist , a single large claw, nearly sword, grew out of it. The poor thing was like me, bored. But not anymore. We're behind our enemy, and soon on them.

A guard dropped dead next to their fellow Downpour. Before they could react, I silenced them with the claw.

The other two were right beside each other, a perfect line. There's a reason behind the size of my claw, everyone needs a friend. I charged full speed, claw pointing at the two Downpour soldiers.

I kept going; I kept running. Until I couldn't anymore.

"Good night, happy night, you're dismissed." I quietly and happily whispered to both of the soldiers.

I miscounted, those weren't two. The third was right behind them, sitting. Innocently. How unfortunate.

Slowly pushing off three fully grown soldiers off your hand wasn't a simple task, especially if I tried to make it silent.

The silver murderous snake became colder. It tightened around my chest. The hunger for it. Must be painful watching something else get fed while you're starving.

I reached down onto my other wrist and pressed another button. Then another claw grew.

"The married couple is back together, it appears. I'll let you have your fun." I thought to myself.

Another hail of arrows thundered across the base. They were all out protecting now, arrows of their own flew outside.

Now, the fire in the middle of the base forced me to walk into the light. I'll stick out like a sore thumb, a sore ghost.

An unlucky Downpour soldier stumbled towards me. They had a longbow strapped to their back. But no arrows.

I watched. Watching my enemies wasn't my favorite thing to do, I'm not Edward. They walked into a large tent, the largest in the entire base.

"Big enough for all four of us!" I whispered to the couple and the silver snake.

From inside, voices talked to each other. About the attackers... about us. Just like they're higher-ups, these ants don't understand it isn't kind to talk about other people behind their backs.

They felt furious, I could feel the couple growing restless. The snake tightened around me more.

I bolted inside. My first target wasn't someone, it was something. The light inside. The husband broke the little fire inside.

No one was prepared for what happened next. The wife slashed through armor and flesh, meanwhile the husband applauded and encouraged his mate.

At first, I was having fun, but then they yelled. Screamed for help. Blowing my cover.

No more screaming from inside the tent. The snake didn't like it. I silenced the annoying sound for it. To soothe it.

The wife reached down and helped grab a little toy for later. Meanwhile, the husband retreated. He was sleepy. So I reached down and grabbed a body.

I stepped outside, longbow in hand. Three arrows loaded at once. Aim, pray, release. Three archers stopped moving and went to bed.

A soldier turned around to face where the arrows came from, not expecting to see a ghost behind them. My hands wrapped around their head.

"Have a good night, all of you." I joyfully told the soldier.

I slammed their head on an arrow that was on the floor. Everyone around the soldier screamed in terror.

Why are they afraid? Is it because I am with another man's wife? Is it because there's a silver snake around me?

But the screaming, it bothered the poor snake. The toy, the wife's toy. I grabbed the hand of a Downpour soldier, the same one the wife took for herself.

I swung it over my head and against someone's face. Then they wen't to sleep? Why so early? We just started to play? Not even a goodbye either... rude.

Even more screaming.

"SHUT UP ALL OF YOU, YOU'RE HARMING MY SNAKE!!" Rage took control over me.

I flung a body over the gate. Seconds later, the thunder of many men charging at once got closer.

Each step sounded louder, and louder, and louder. My poor sweet murderous snake. I know how it would feel better. Food, it just needs food.

"Come here, don't forget. You're my favorite!" I announced to my snake.

I reached down for it. A large silver chain unwrapped itself from my chest and down into my arms. By now, the wife went to bed.

First attack from the snake broke armor and bone. Instead of facing me directly, those idiots ran. They ran all the way back. Away from me. They ran.

A silver moon glow showed me how beautiful my snake was. I looked around for more targets. Many of them were next to the gate, ready to escape.

Sadly, they didn't see who was outside. The gate shattered.

My team broke inside.

"Move out the way, please. Or my pet snake will make way." I threatened my team.

They listened, some came inside while the others stayed outside. A clear escape so close to those soldiers.

"Go tell your families what us Wildmen can do. Dress your kids as me for Halloween!" My voice cut through the souls of all the remaining Downpour.

Slowly, each soldier edged towards the door. Slowly, very slowly, very, very slowly. They didn't trust me. Why? I'm a good person. I feed my pets.

Once they were outside, they ran for their lives.
