Charred Resources

While Finch and Specter attacked Griffin's Rest and a frontline base, me and my team scouted a Downpour resource base.

"Edward, from what we saw, this entire base is full. If we looted it all, they will be bloodthirsty."

"And that's why we are not doing that!" I patiently waited for my scout to respond.

"Wait, what? The whole point of us being here is to make them want to fight even harder, right?" I could tell I confused them.

"Correct. But, you know what's better than taking stuff? If we spit on their pride and get 'revenge' by burning this entire base down until its nothing but burned grass and warm stone."

My scout didn't reply. Kinda hoped for a reaction. I can't choose how people react or feel, sadly.

"Right. We'll challenge Downpour's own heart. They want a future strictly with people who are strong or smart? How about we put up a show tonight to make it seem like Wildmen fit their bill? You see that fire over there? Take whatever can be set on fire and prepare to burn this whole thing down!"

As the leader of all scouts in this region's DRT, I know how to get my boy's excitement. Being chaotic is one of the many things they like to do.

Everyone was ready, all they needed now was my command. If we were going to make a entrance, we should make it good.

I pointed at a large wood storage house. On the outside, bows and many kinds of arrows lined the floor. It almost was a tragedy we were going to destroy it all.

"Storage house, arrows and bows outside. Our first target. Let's do it!" I encouraged my team to do their worst.

A whole miniature army flooded the gates of the base. I still had some explosives left over from the attack Finch led against the Desyn Savages.

I planted some down beside the gate and stood back. Those Downpour idiots believed in being smarter and stronger is the future, I wonder if they'll be smart enough to plan a counter and strong enough to pull through?

BOOM!

It was like an inspiring speech. But for destruction. Rows of my scouts climbed the walls or flood through the broken gate.

From what I could hear, it sounds like they were smart enough to take turns staying awake.

Doors swung open and furious marching stepped closer and closer towards us. Then fighting unsued.

"REMEMBER THE PLAN! ALSO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, I WANT TO DESTROY SOME STUFF TOO!"

I noticed a hail of arrows were storming right towards us. Sometimes I honestly wish I paid more attention to my training back before the Calamity, or even before the original disaster.

"STORM INCOMING!" I yelled out to my team.

The rush we felt was beautiful. It pushed some to brute force their way inside, others tightly hugged the walls. But a rare few, like me, waited for the storm to arrive.

Running Through the Hurricane's Wrath was one of my favorite things to do back when we had our own stronghold. Ten people would throw rocks in formation to mimic a storm, while one or more others try to run to the throwers.

Fun game, but not sure how useful that would be in combat. But I was going to find out in a short while.

I jumped into a sprint. Arrows forcing their way into the ground behind me made my heart race. I felt myself go faster and faster, my breathing got heavier.

Out of adrenaline, I leaped over my flooding scouts and right on a Downpour soldier.

"Fear the Wildmen!" I tried my best to sound intimidating.

But who would be afraid of a jumpy boy who looks like a face you'll forget in 20 minutes? Then again, looks can sometimes be misleading.

I ripped the Downpour's spear out of their hand, then stomped on them.

Despite the Downpour soldiers attacking hard, there weren't many inside. I mean, I never expected more than a small amount of them to be in a storage base, but still.

Holes in their defenses were already clear.

"Pack 5 with me. Get your brights ready!" I excitedly called five scouts to come with me.

Five scouts dropped followed me, each had something flammable in their hands. Unlike them, I didn't bring something flammable. Being one to love danger, I saved my last explosive for this moment.

"Light your brights and burn the first storage house you see!"

Each scout held a piece of wood over the fire long enough for them to burn.

"Hurry, they know what we're going to do!" I warned my scouts.

They sprinted away from the fire and ran inside different storages. Everything felt hotter, but we were just starting to have fun.

Flames slowly devoured the insides of each storage house. Food, wood, water, clothing, armor, and weapons would be a major loss to this side of the battlefield.

I tossed a small metal star over the fighting. High enough for a scout to notice, and they did. They knew what I wanted them to do now.

Quickly, scouts escaped the base. Soon, only me and the other five were still inside. We weren't even close to being done with this base.

"YOU FUCKERS REMEMBER WHEN YOU SAT ONE OF OUR OUTPOSTS ON FIRE? HERE'S OUR FUCK YOU LETTER!" I taunted them.

Downpour soldiers chased after us, exactly what I wanted. They should watch us play around with them for a bit.

"Look! I'm going to destroy these shields. Would be horrible if any big bad Downpour guys stopped me." A scout taunted them.

Their distraction got some heat off my back. I ran towards the arrow storage house in a full speed sprint.

On my way there, I watched one of my scouts force a Downpour soldier into a burning house. The fires were also spreading.

I reached the outside of the arrow storage. I stomped on arrows to break them and snapped bows. The door to the storage was open. I carelessly threw everything inside.

"Downpour, 'we'll make it rain fury on you!' Where's the fury if I'm going to destroy it?"

All attention was on me, then on my hand. I pinched the edge of my final explosive. Then ripped the fuze right off, starting the countdown.

"THIS REGION WILL BE OURS!" I genuinely sounded angry now.

I threw the explosive inside and started my escape.

Downpour soldiers began lining up in front of the gate. They looked furious. I bet if they caught me, they would've shown me my own insides!

Half of the soldiers dropped dead before me. My scouts opened a way for me. I took my opportunity and sprinted past them.

Then, BOOM! What a sweet way of hearing "work here is done."

Now that this base was done, I wondered if Finch and Specter finished theirs. But most importantly, was Defender doing good?
