A Deserving Explanation

Park Hayoon had an awkward facial expression, so she took some sips from the glass of water on the table before replying...

"Okay, noted!."

Wang Ju studied her facial expression and the little actions she made. From his observation, he could deduce that she was lying.

"Tell me, what happened to the jewelry?." He asked as he stared right into her eyes.

Park Hayoon felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. She couldn't even look at him.

'He didn't buy my lies?.' She thought.

"Yoon'er?." Wang Ju Won called out as he fixed his gaze on her.

Park Hayoon raised her head to look at him. She gazed at him with unease in her heart as she stammered a reply.

"I... I... I... I sold it." She managed to say before looking downwards

To her surprise, Wang Ju Won was calm after her response. She was expecting him to flare up or shout, but he remained calm. And instead of hearing him say some rebuking words, she heard him say...

"What did you need the money for?." Wang Ju Won asked in surprise. He didn't expect that answer at all.

At first, when he noticed she lied, he thought she gave the jewelry out because she didn't like it, or maybe because she didn't value such gifts from him. But secondly, he thought the jewelry was stolen since she was finding it difficult to talk about it.

But Alas! She sold it! What Ju Won wondered the kind of situation she found herself in, for her to sell that expensive jewelry he bought for her.

That jewelry was expensive and almost ran into millions.

So it was either she had an emergency that warranted her to sell it and use the money to settle the issue she had, or that she was a 'money lover'. That was his conclusion.

But hearing her say she sold it, he was curious to know her reason for that action, and not that she wanted to hold anything against her.

'What situation would make her sell something she liked?.'

Seeing his calm demeanor as he stared at her with a scrutinizing gaze, she felt the need to explain the situation to him, because she knew he was a good person and deserved to know.

"Jenny needs money to further her figure skating career, so I'm trying to save up money for it. I looked it up on the internet and discovered the sport requires thousands of Dollars if she wants to be an Olympic figure skater."

"Thousands of Dollars? How come the sport is this expensive, and besides I thought Hyejin was doing it for fun?." Wang Ju Won asked in surprise as he wondered the reason the sport was so expensive.

His actions and choice of words, made Park Hayoon set her mind at ease. She knew of she explained everything in detail, he would understand and may even offer to give her a little hand.

They were dating now, and she could tell he liked her a lot for him to buy that expensive jewelry for her just months into their dating.

Park Hayoon smiled softly, before going ahead to explain in detail about figure skating as a career.

After explaining the basics, she went ahead to tell him where money was needed in figure skating.

"Sometimes, money is needed to register for competitions. She needs a figure skating coach, she can manage one for now. But she will be needing two in the future if I want to give her the best. She needs a dance/choreography coach. She needs a manager. A dietician, and then a psychiatrist."

"What does she need a psychiatrist for?." Wang Ju Won asked in shock.

"Figure skaters are likely to be depressed because they do not have a social life because there is no time to make friends. But even if they make friends, there will be no time for them to hang out and meet up, because they spend most of their time, practicing on the rink. The second major reason is this, some or most figure skaters develop an eating disorder, so they need to be counseled in time, and their diet, monitored by their dietician." Park Hayoon replied.

She has done an extensive study on figure skating because of her daughter, so she has an overall understanding of it.

"I see... I can already imagine the pressure Hyejin would be in, in the future." Wang Ju Won said after he heaved a sigh.

Having had a basic understanding of figure skating from her, some questions kept popping out from his mind, so he decided to ask away, and Park Hayoon replied to all of them truthfully.

He asked questions like...

How and When did Kim Hyejin pick an interest in figure skating?

How long has she been practicing?

Has she competed with anyone, or has she gone on any competition before?

Before getting a coach for her, who has been teaching her how to skate?

Then, he went ahead to ask another important question which she gave him a reply.

"What about your family, are you the only one left to sponsor her?."

Park Hayoon heaved a sigh as she carefully replied, "I'm her main sponsor since I agreed to let her practice the sport. Hyejin is like a daughter to me, and I have already taken that role as a mother to her, so I'm majorly responsible for anything that has to do with her. But my father and brother are supporting her as well. But I will not rely on my father because his company is still trying to rise after it almost went bankrupt, so I cannot rely on him."

Wang Ju Won asked few other questions before nodding in satisfaction. He could see that Park Hayoon told him the truth, and he could see the sincerity in her.

After asking all these questions, and getting the answers to them, Wang Ju Won didn't say anything further about Kim Hyejin and figure skating.

And this made Park Hayoon a little disappointed because he wasn't saying anything about helping out since he had the money to help if he wanted to. After asking all these questions, she thought he wanted to find out some things, so he would know how to help out, but she ended up being disappointed.

But that feeling only lasted for two days, because two days later, he phoned her, and that call brought her great joy, satisfaction and peace of mind.
