" Is this a deli"
She said questioningly, face scrunch up glaring at the small run down building and honestly who could blame her, the building was busted up, dirty, the two front windows were boarded up and graffiti was covering a faded outline of a sign that read Leo's Italian deli.
She kept looking back and fourth at her phone making sure she had the right address but to her disappointment she did. 616 8 mile road her phone read and it was mirrored equally with dinky looking Plaque reading the same address, oh and if that wasn't enough to confirm it next to the plaque was a taped piece of paper reading OPEN THIN EYES TRADE SCHOOL FOR THE PSYCHICS, MYSTICS AND THE SPIRITUALLY GIFTED. A silly name she thought even last night when she was on the schools website, they boasted about having hundreds of locations around the globe so she was expecting something a bit more she wasn't expecting freaking Hogwarts but at least something in a nice building and in a nice part of town.
"This place is so far out and nothing but abandoned buildings for blocks who would have a school here"
"We would''
The sound of a deep and gruff voice coming from behind snapping her to attention.
"We find that far out spots really work with the learning experience...so you must be my 3 o'clock Anya Chesterfield right"
"Ugh yes sir"
She said nervously.
"I didn't mean to be disrespectful it's just a odd place to hold a school you know"
"None taken come inside"
"He said Dryly, as the man began walking towards the door Anya was able to get a good look at him. He was a middle aged his hair and beards as slightly graying but not as gray as his suit and his suit seemed as wrinkled as his face, it was unremarkable every little thing was unremarkable (seriously) she thought (this...this is a professional school).
As Anya and the man stepped into the boarded up shack everything went from bad to worst if she wasn't doubting why she was here then we'll she was now, somehow the outside looked like the best case scenario, like a pleasant dream yes if the outside was a dream then the inside was a freaking nightmare the worst case, of worst case scenario (oh you have got to be kidding me) she thought.
Awful it looked awful, garbage littered everywhere crater sized holes in the floor and in the walls, dust and dirt and even though she was unfamiliar she was pretty sure what she was smelling was mold.
"I'm sorry sir but are you kidding"
Anya couldn't help but blurt it out.
"Is this some joke I mean"...
"Peters"
He cut her off suddenly.
"I don't like the word sir so just call me peters, also this is no joke now I need to set up for the interview so please wait right there... oh and mind your step"
Before Anya could say anything the wrinkled up gray man walked through one of the big blistering holes into a back room, standing there in a abandoned building on a long forgotten street Anya Chesterfield thought, felt no more like screamed to herself (why am I here what am I doing here, I could leave I could call a ride and leave this... this place).
But she already knew she could have left but what would she be leaving to... (not much) she thought she knew that she didn't have any friends, hadn't had those since the 6th grade besides her mom who she barely even sees she had no family here and to make it worst she wasn't even born here.she had no real reason but she was here in some garbage shack... and for what she came here for what she was in the shitty part of town in some city she doesn't even know or care about, a place she wants to leave everyday but she was still here for what and why.
Here because she was tired here because she was willing to try anything weather she would admit or not Anya will grasp for anything even if that thing was... here.
"Sorry for the wait"
Suddenly the wrinkled man was coming back through the wall dragging two foldable lawn chairs to the only half way decent spot in the room
"Come sit so we can get this interview started"
And even though her mind was telling her to go, she still went and sat down.
"Now"
He said pulling his phone from his pocket.
"Lets start with a easy question how were you referred to our school"
"Oh by Keke Majestic "
"Ugh"
He groaned.
" You mean the so called psychic youtuber"
"yea"
Anya shifted in the chair.
"She made a 20 minute rant video on how your LA location turned her away and claimed she was a hack, after that she blew up on you guys calling you every name in the book, the school was trending for a few days.
Anya started chuckling awkwardly .
"Yes I'm aware since that video went viral almost every location we have in the country has had a influx of crazy fans wanting a shot at becoming students or just the chance of cursing us out, I thought that we had avoided this tidal wave here ain Michigan but i guess were not so lucky.
He shot a quick glance at her.
"Oh yea sorry I'm not a real fan of hers it was just... I've been seeing your school all the time online and i thought it be something ... fun to.. do.
"Fun Ugh"
He said dryly.
"I guess it could be"
Even though those word passed his lips Anya knew they weren't genuine.
"Now own to the important questions, on your application you remarked that you've never been able to see spirits but you put down that you felt a chill up your spin at different time in your life"
" Yes si... Mr. Peters"
"Alight"
He said while slumping over his phone.
"If you can please give me the time, year and location, gonna need you to narrow it down for me if you can"
"Ok let me think the first would be.
[Back when me and mom moved to Florida] she thought [yea back when we lived in that small studio apartment]
"The first chill that was back in Florida when i was 12 it was"
She bit her lips focusing on the memory.
It was around April of 2013 Shady Springs Tower that was the name of the complex we lived in. I felt chills for almost a week me and my mom moved shortly after that because of her job"
Mr. Peters grunted letting her know he heard her but never looked up from his phone he just typed away.
"Ok any others"
"Yes one I really remember was when I was 15 we were moving to San Francisco it was like the middle of the day and it was really hot I mean really really hot"
She was getting excited reliving this old memory.
"We were half way across the bridge and a strong chill ran up my spine, I always thought it was weird because of how hot it was.
"Oh ok"
He began to rub his chin.
"And what month and year was this?"
"Um I know it was a few weeks after my birthday so somewhere around late July early August of 2016"
"Hmmm"
He was now chewing on his nails
"And any others"
"I'm sure that I had a few more during the years that i can't remember, but there was one more it was a few days ago"
"Really"
He arched his eyebrows.
"Yes it was around midnight and I just gone to sleep when out of no were a strong chill ran threw me, it was quick and sudden one"
"And where do you currently live?"
"Ahhh Spring Valley Hills"
"The complex on Southfield road?"
He asked.
"Yes"
"Ok... now on to my final question"
Now ever since they met only a few minutes ago Peters never once looked at Anya but right then in there Joseph Carl Peters looked up from his phone and stared directly at her, directly into her eyes she felt as if he was staring into her soul at that moment every thing she was on the fence about began to fade away, nothing mattered not the shitty building not the holes in the wall not anything, nothing mattered but his look. It was a serious look it was strong it was a look that meant business their would be no lie with that look Anya knew this before he even asked, his question and as she was sucked into that look the final question came it was straight forward and simply and the question he asked was.
"WHY DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THIS SCHOOL"
