The Office Poltergeist Part 5

"What do you mean we got a C+, we took down Truman he was one of those level 2 you taught us about plus he was hella strong"

The girls were back in Peters car on there way home trying to argue there case on why they deserved a higher grade, it wasn't going well since hey were both wiped out and honestly they didn't feel like fighting anymore.

"Your not wrong and good job by the way"

Peters said from behind the wheel.

"But with every success you, you had just as many slip ups"

They didn't rebuttal just listened.

"First of all you two set him off to begin with, I could tell from the moment you saw his rap sheet you would look lowly of him, you snapped at him as ushers a part of are job is to prevent escalation but instead you pushed it, I'll give it two you old boy was trash but with his death he and all spirits should be treated equally"

They wordlessly agreed feeling a little shame.

"And when you wanted the action and when he obliged you two hesitated"

They stiffened up he told no lies.

"And you didn't freeze up the one time on the fourth floor but you also did on the first and a little bit in the basement"

[How the heck did he know that] Anya thought looking out of the window, [he was upstairs the entire time] Rebecca thought while staring blindly into nothing.

"Then finally you had to piss him off again to bring him out from hiding, it was clever trick but it was risky if he had become a level 3 then you two would have gotten yourselves killed. So with all of that I believe that a C+ is a very generous grade"

They agreed but they kept there lips sealed. The entire car ride was silent for a while then Rebecca asked.

"Was my grandmother like Truman"

Anya turned and looked at her and Peters caught a glimpse of her through the rear view mirror, Rebecca was gazing absent mindedly out the window her face was blank but Peters could tell that she was fishing.

"No"

He said it and her eyes turned in his direction.

"Your grandmother had reached the upper peaks of level 2 which is why your home was destroyed by her presence, but the usher that were deployed by dispatch were able to reach her humanity and she reverted back to level 1. Those same ushers made sure that your grandmother, father, mother and your brother Miguel all passed on"

"Oh"

She said.

"That's good"

Then she turned and looked back out the window. Anya stared at her for a long time then she moved her eyes down to her hand, then reached out and held her hand. Rebecca never moved or stirred but he response she squeezed back she got her answer and felt no better from it. Despite Peters intentions he had told her half truths ushers had been dispatched her parents and her brother had been convinced to pass on but her grandmother was a completely different story. Rebecca's grandmother was to far gone she wasant level 2 but level 3, it's why the house was truly destroyed when the ushers reached the scene there was no helping her or it.

She was to dangerous to everyone and everything so on that day Maria Gonzalez was extinguished. [But her knowing that wouldn't help, it would only cause more pain] Peters thought this while he continued to drive and for the remainder of the ride all three of them remained silent, no celebrating no champagne popping no real pats on the back even though today was there first successful mission.

Anya's mother arrived home around 5:00 pm by then Anya herself had been home for 4 hours, she was still wiped out but two energized to sleep, she made dinner nothing extravagant just hot dogs and fries but it might as well have been a juicy cut of filet mignon to her mother. They ate and chatted Anya told her about her day in a very cliff notes sanitized version of her day, she was switching words with other words the edition of the story she gave was that she had her first on sight training day and how she dealt with a very rude customer it wasn't a lie but it for damn sure wasn't the truth.

"So enough about me, how's work been going for you"

Anya asked with a mouth full of fries.

"Oh it's been great actually that's what I wanted to talk to you about"

"Really"

Anya responded curiously spitting little bits of food out, with her eyebrows raised. Her mother laughed at her daughters lack of table manners.

"Yea well since we've been here I've hit the ground running at work, nearly all of my quotas have been finished earlier then expected so my temporary transfer date might get moved up"

After all this was said Anya stopped, after these words she began tensing up so much that her food got stuck in her throat. Noticing her daughters tension Nico immediately tried to smooth the situation,

"NOT NOW, NOT NOW IT'LL BE LONG AFTER YOU FINISH YOUR SCHOOLING"

Anya relaxed but she was still not ready, in her heart she knew it was coming that one of these days her mom would come through that door and tell her there moving again.

"Where are the talking about sending you next"

"Oh"

Nico was caught off guard.

"Pittsburgh"

"That's good for you mom.... well i'm tired I'm going to bed"

"Ok.. goodnight"

It was only 5:31 pm but her mother knew the problem she knew Anya hated to move [but you got to keep moving can't get stagnant] Nico thought to herself. In her plain non-descript  bedroom, Anya laid on her bed looking at the ceiling. This ceiling looked like all the others, from Florida to California to New Orleans to Jersey then eventually Pittsburgh  every ceiling every apartment no everyday will be the same. [But I don't want to go] Anya thought, [I wanna stay grow I don't want to run any more] she turned over and began softly crying in her pillow. In that moment she wished there was someone to hold her hand like she held Rebecca's but since she didn't she held tight to her totem instead.
