The Start

Audrey's P.O.V

Pain.

That word just hits different. A feeling that is so hard to ignore.

"I need the doctor!" Someone screamed at the top of its lungs and different nurses came running in. I don't know what situation I was in but I know in my guts that this is not good at all. I tried to speak but murmurs just came out of my mouth. That's when everything went black.

"Audrey?" Someone called and it somehow faded away.

Here I am staring into space without knowing what to do after waking up from that kind-of weird dream. It's been weeks since Ethan and I broke up. Weeks since I cried my eyes out through this stupid heartbreak. Our 5-year relationship was quickly thrown out the window. Being busy does break couples up unless your relationship is that strong but ours was clearly not. I just want to hibernate far away from my hometown where no one knows a thing about me.

Let me introduce myself to you guys. I am Audrey West, 22, I live alone in this house because my parents believe that I am independent now that I am an adult. I own a coffee shop business and it has been successful since it is the only coffee shop around this town I am living. So yeah, I guess that's the most basic thing about me.

I came to my senses as I heard my phone rang softly.

Emily is calling...

"Hey." I answered my best friend's call since I know she has been worried these days because I was not answering her calls.

"Hey babe. How are you?" She softly asked as I tried to fight back some tears away.

"Fine. I'm slowly healing." I'm not.

"Are you good to attend Jack's birthday party tonight?" She hesitantly asked.

"Yes, I'm good. At 7pm, right?" I asked as I stand up and started to pick up the wine bottles I have been drinking last night to help me fall asleep.

"Exactly. See you, babe. Cheer up!" She gently raised her voice and hang up.

I sighed and continued to fix my bedroom. I noticed it is now 2pm so I started to clean my house since I haven't touched a thing since THAT day. After cleaning up, I took a shower and got ready for Jack's birthday party since it's already 4pm. I dressed into my favorite deep V-neck dress in lilac color and it perfectly stopped above my knees. I grabbed my purse, car keys, and I drove to the destination. I arrived on time on a fancy hotel and let the chauffer parked my car somewhere. I entered the hotel and observed my surroundings. It is a habit of mine where I observe things and I guess it's therapeutic to me. It makes me forget things.

"Audrey!" I heard Jack's voice boomed throughout the lobby as I diverted my attention to his. "You came!" he cheered.

"Of course, I don't want to miss my best friend's boyfriend's birthday." I chuckled. As if on cue, Emily came running in my arms as I tried hard not to fall on my butt.

"I missed you!" She shrieked.

"Geez, Emily." I pretended to rub my ears to her sudden shriek.

"I love you, too." She pouted. "Come, Jack and I will introduce you to our friends." She smiled as they guided me inside a ballroom.

After a thousands of introduction to strangers, I finally get to have time for myself as I walked towards the bar.

"Gin and Tonic, please." I ordered as the bartender immediately did his work.

"You know, a beautiful woman like you should not drink when she's driving." A stranger's voice spoke. I looked beside me and saw a friend of Jack approaching to sit beside me. I gave him a confused yet wary look, wondering how'd he know I am driving. "Oh, I saw you at the entrance." He said and I nodded. "Audrey West, right?" He asked.

"Yes and you are Derik Irwin." I said as I saw how impressed he was when I remembered his name, which he hummed. Before he could talk, I heard gasps around me and as curious as I am, I decided to look to and there I saw the person I don't want to face. Not right now.

Ethan.

A woman then came into my view and wrapped her arms around Ethan's left arm.

Ouch.
