Anxiety

Audrey's P.O.V

Everything went in slow motion as I saw Ethan with a woman. My heart began to clench yet it was beating hard at the same time. I guess I was having anxiety but I was able to fight it back and drank the whole glass of my Gin and Tonic. Due to my dumbass, my heavy breathing got worse as I clutch Derik's arm for support.

"Audrey? Audrey, are you okay!?" He asked as he held both my shoulders as he tried to make eye contact with me. "Breathe with me, Audrey." He instructed but my mind was still going crazy. That's when I felt a pair of lips onto mine. I was so shock that my breathing calmed down as I was focused on how he kissed me. Derik then pulled away when he noticed that I have calmed already and held on his shoulders to help support my weak self. I then noticed that our surroundings became quiet. I looked around and saw that a few people were staring at me especially him. Emily and Jack then came running towards me, worried about how I reacted.

"Are you okay!? Do you need to go home?" Emily asked as she moved my hair away from my forehead.

"I'm fine. Maybe it was just the chicken I ate a while ago. You know my allergies." I nervously laugh. Emily and Jack noticed why I reacted that way but decided to brush off the topic since we're in public.

"She's fine. I got her." Derik spoke up as he patted my shoulder as a sign of comfort. Emily and Jack then apologizes that they need to entertain more guests and will hangout with me later. I just let them be since I don't want to ruin the party. "So, is it going to be rude if I ask what happened earlier?" Derik asked.

"I don't mind," I answered as he gestured me to continue. "Well, Ethan Hunter is my ex. We dated for almost five years when he decided to break things up. He did not even explain. He just simply told me in my own café that he wanted to break up with me. Now, it's just been weeks and it's my first time seeing him. The worst part is, he brought a woman. A woman, who is clearly more beautiful than me." I rolled my eyes as I mentioned the woman he brought with him.

"Why did he show up here anyway?" He puffed and drank some of his whiskey.

"Maybe he thought I was not going to show up after we broke up." I shrugged as I took a shot of vodka. A slow song then blasted on the speakers and the DJ announced the dance floor is open. "Come on, dance with me." I pulled Derik's arm as we arrived at the dance floor. I gently wrapped my arms around him as he did the same around my waist. "Thank you for earlier." I whispered on his hear while tiptoeing a bit.

"You're welcome." He whispered back as we continued to sway back and forth, following the beat of the music. Our moment was then ruined when somebody bumped onto Derik causing us to move rapidly sideways, making me almost fall but thank the heavens that Derik is strong enough to hold me up when I was about to fall. I quickly threw a death glare to the person who just bumped to us but my eyes soften as I saw who it was. "Can't you even say sorry?" Derik asked harshly as he recognized who it was too.

"Sorry," Ethan muttered then looked at me. "Can we talk?" He asked. Derik then wrapped his arm around my waist but then I pulled away from him gently and looked at him.

"I'll wait for you at the bar area." Derik said and walked out. Ethan then gestured me to follow him and we arrived at the hotel's garden. The area was so quiet, with crickets' gentle noises is the only thing I can hear and to think that we are the only person here. I quietly walked behind him and he slowed down to match the speed of my walk.

"How are you?" he started.

"Fine, I guess." I answered as I kicked some small stones while walking. "I see you've found someone already." I chuckled and he remained quiet. Fuck, why did I say that? Idiot. I mentally slapped myself.

"Who was that guy?" he asked.

"His name's Derik. New friend of mine." I shrugged as we sat on a bench near the pool.

"What kind of friend?" this time, I looked at him as he stared at the sky.

"Uh, none of your business." I rolled my eyes as I started to get annoyed when he's asking these things.

"I missed you." he muttered.

Those three words that I am longing to here, yet I am stopping myself to not give in. He missed me? How can he miss me when he's with someone else? Shit is real. We remained silent as a sudden breeze blew making me shiver and goosebumps was what I felt as it hit my skin.

"Here." he spoke and removed his blazer then wrapped it around my body frame suddenly that I quickly looked at him. That is when I noticed that our face were so close to each other that if one will move forward, something will happen. He breathed out from shock and his mint mixed with wine breath was what I smelled. Slowly, he started to lean in as I closed my eyes.
