Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Dani -

I woke up with her in my arms again, and felt a unique type of happiness.

It was very different, talking with Cameran, but I very much enjoyed both of them.

Cameran, was able to understand what really happened, that her daddy was dead.

She was upset, but grateful.

They seemed to really care for each other, but his addiction had taken over him.

It was sad how common it seemed.

I saw the same thing every single time I put on my rings.

Some people are actually pieces of shit, they do exist, but I mostly went after good people, with bad addictions.

I beat the shit out of people, just like me, I genuinely replaced the guy who came after me for the same reasons I go after others.

Cameran, was the first person in years, I had a normal conversation with.

My friends wanted nothing to do with me when I agreed to work for the man who gave me the poison that took my girl.

I couldn't blame them, and honestly, I felt better knowing I couldn't drag anyone else down.

Eric didn't even stick around to see me open the door, but I got him to see that he was helping her, not me.

I didn't know what they would do if they knew about her, and I wasn't willing to find out.

Getting to know her, proved her innocence even more.

I hadn't let myself feel anything for anyone, but her, since she died.

I felt a lot around her, and it scared the life out of me.

I kissed her shoulder and slipped away.

After putting on my running shoes, I went to the spare room and got on the treadmill.

Just as I got up to speed, I noticed her in the doorway.

‘You're walking.’

Cameran: ‘Carefully, I promise. You're on a treadmill.’

‘Very observant.’

I huffed as I slowed my speed.

Cameran: ‘You work at a very nice gym.’

‘I am there to work, and nothing more, but I can't sacrifice looking after myself, it keeps me grounded. I have to take care of my body, and my mind really, it keeps me clean.’

Cameran: ‘Well, I get that.’

‘How are you, do you need anything?’

Cameran: ‘I'm not nearly as sick, I think I want real food. You up for my cooking?’

‘I am interested.’

Cameran: ‘Ok then, enjoy your run.’

She gave me a smile and left, still favoring her bad ankle.

I lost myself in my run, like I needed to.

When I went to the kitchen, she had just finished preparing two plates.

‘You've outdone yourself.’

Cameran: ‘You've never seen my abilities.’

She said smugly with a flirtatious smile.

‘Ok, that's fair.’

She put a full plate at my seat, then sat beside me.

Cameran: ‘I need to know how far your generosity goes, Dani.’
