Reign's POV
I am always giving my best everytime I perform. But with that smile he has given me, I feel like I still have the best of bests in me.
Our first song is "Story Of My Life" originally sang by the band One Direction, and we are singing it now in our very revised version.
Neil starts singing it, "Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain".
The people who were cheering for us earlier are now silent.
"I leave my heart but it stays right here empty for days
She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones
It seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone", he continues.
"And I'll be gone, gone tonight
The ground beneath my feet is open wide
The way that I been holding on too tight
With nothing in between", I sing my part.
Neil and I are both watching the audience as they have their full attention to us since we're so new to this competition. Then we sing the chorus.
"The story of my life
I take her home
I drive all night
To keep her warm
And time is frozen
The story of my life
I give her hope
I spend her love
Until she's broke
Inside
The story of my life", Neil is the one mainly singing this with Kyle and me second voicing.
Some of the crowd sing along. Many of them keep their silence, focusing on our performance with the O-shaped mouths. The same ones that I have seen earlier on other contenders' faces when we were listening to the great performances of the first contenders.
"Written on these walls are the colors that I can't change
Leave my heart open but it stays right here in its cage
I know that in the morning now I'll see us in the light upon a hill
Although I am broken, my heart is untamed, still", Kyle sings his part.
Kyle also has a beautiful voice, but Neil's voice quality is much more attractive for me.
"And I'll be gone, gone tonight
The fire beneath my feet is burning bright
The way that I've been holding on so tight
With nothing in between", this time, Neil is the one singing this part.
Then we are now repeating the chorus. I never thought the whole crowd would sing with us now. My heart jumps, and it's as if releasing the same adrenaline that Neil has given me earlier.
Until "Story Of My Life" has ended.
The crowd is doubling their cheer on us. I'm filled with joy right now that I want to cry. Neil and I both look at each other with sparkling eyes and smile. We don't expect this.
"Thank you, guys! Thank you for singing with us on that song. I hope you still sing with us until the very last", Neil, as he look at the audience.
Now, I'm so much ready for the second song which is "That Should Be Me" originally sang by Justin Bieber.
"Now, our second song is for everybody who gets to know that they have lost their chance to keep someone they love", Neil starts to internalize and prepare everybody for the second song. "This song is painful, now we want you to release that pain! Sing with us as we sing That Should Be Me", Neil continues.
The crowd gets excited, screaming.
"Everybody's laughing in my mind
Rumors spreading 'bout this other guy", Neil beautifully sings this that the crowd is on full attention to him again. In every word he sings, the pain on his expression doubles up.
Now, I'm gonna insert my parts so it will appear that we are exchanging lines to each other.
"Do you do what you did when you did with me?" I look at him as I sing this.
"Does he love you the way I can?" Neil also looks at me with approriate emotions as he replies.
"Did you forget all the plans that you made with me?" I also reply as if we're really talking to each other.
"'Cause baby I didn't", we sing in chorus, with different voices that blend.
"That should be me", both of us.
"Holdin' your hand", he sings.
"That should be me", both of us.
"Makin' you laugh", I sing.
"That should be me
This is so sad", we sing together.
"That should be me", I sing.
"That should be me", he replies.
"That should be me
Feelin' your kiss", that's me.
"That should be me
Buyin' you gifts" that's Neil.
"This is so wrong
I can't go on
'Til you believe that
That should be me", both of us.
"That should be me", he follows.
I have less attention to the audience now compared to earlier's performance. This song is literally painful to me. I feel the pain again. And everytime I sing the line 'That should be me', I feel like crying.
"You said you needed a little time
For my mistakes
It's funny how you use that time
To have me replaced", I sing while refraining myself from crying.
"Did you think that I wouldn't see you out at the movies?
What you doin' to me?
You're takin' him where we used to go", he's facing me and I can see how he's so attached to the song.
"Now if you're trying to break my heart
It's working 'cause you know that
That should be me", we both sing.
We repeat the chorus, not breaking our gazes at each other. As bridge comes, I turn to look at the audience, then close my eyes while holding the microphone with both hands.
"I need to know, should I fight for love or disarm?"
I have asked myself this question before. It was painful. But singing this now, with Neil beside me singing this song with me, is much more painful.
It's a good thing that my eyes are closed. And I'm applying even more force closing it, to refrain the tears from travelling down my cheeks.
"It's getting harder to shield this pain in my heart", Neil replies.
I prepare myself to join him sing, "OH OOHHHHH".
The crowd goes so wild. That's the most intense part. We have made our own revision there. New notes, great voice quality, both of our voices blend, and the one that most intensifies the atmosphere is the intense drumming of Jack after the 'ohhh' part.
With the crowd being wild, I am able to hold back the tears and able to open my eyes again. This feels so amazing. The crowd gives me strength despite the pain I'm feeling right now. No.. Perhaps, the pain is now replaced with an unexplainable warmth from them. And this is the best feeling ever.
