A South African Aunt

Most of the schools give two months for summer vacation but the students studying in schools under the central board had to attend one month of their next grade and then they would get one month for summer vacation. My school was under the central board so I had to attend one month of school. They won't even let us enjoy ourselves after the exam. That honestly sucks. Let me tell you how I spent that one month of school. ( The story up till now has happened in that one month of school.)

So, my mom's cousin brother had married a South African lady and we all wanted to meet her. It was the first time in our family that someone had married a foreigner. Well, to fulfill our wishes she came to India. It was her first time coming to India. She brought so many snacks for the fear that she couldn't get them here. It was one big suitcase full of snacks like chocolates, Easter eggs, chocolate-coated marshmallows, a big packet of beef jerky, different flavored noodles, and so much more. The suitcase containing her clothes and toiletries was much smaller than the one containing food. She was a big foodie but she couldn't eat anything spicy and we being Muslims loved having spicy food so it was a major disadvantage for us because my mom had to cook bland food. We had to put up with that for one month. We didn't complain cause it's not every day a foreigner comes to our house.

Unsurprisingly, she could speak only English with us. We became active English speakers while she was here. Before that, we almost never used to speak in English at home. She was a really great person though. When my mom used to go out and we had to do the household chores, she did it for us and even told mom that we did it. We never asked her to do it(I mean who asks a guest to do your chores). She herself did the work because she liked moving around ad cleaning the house. We had a great time.

She had bought many KitKat chocolates from SA. I used to take one KitKat every day to school and enjoy it all alone. Nobody talked to me so the chocolate was all mine. It was a great one month. After our school closed for the one month vacation, we all went to our hometown together by train. We had way too much fun on the train. Visiting our hometown never gets boring. We went to our grandparents' house and every one of my aunt and uncles came to visit us. We really looked forward to meeting our cousins and they were the same. We would share our stories and they all would listen to it without beating a single eyelash.

Unfortunately, happiness is quite short-lived. We had to return to Mumbai after one month and our schools working again. I didn't really want to go back to school as I didn't have anything or anybody to look forward to. I was in fact dreading the day we had to go back to school. My sister had already made friends in the one month we had to attend school before our holidays and I was utterly and completely friendless. As expected, few students greeted me out of courtesy, and then they were back to sharing holiday stories with each other. I automatically went over to the last bench in the classroom and sat there alone for a while. I was reading a book when all of a sudden somebody plopped down next to me. I looked up from my book to find Fiorenza staring back at me.

"Hi! long time no see. How are you?" she asked. I was too surprised to reply to her question. I somehow managed to stutter out, "I-I-I am fine. W-What about you?" " I am alive, happy, and breathing, aren't I? Anyways, don't look so shocked. I wanted to sit next to you as the other girls are way too irritating for me. You are a very quiet person and you are definitely different from those annoying girls right there," she huffed. I laughed quietly at her definition of her classmates. Fiorenza was very lively and the complete opposite of me. She went on talking until the teacher entered and me being the avid listener, I went on nodding and agreeing with whatever she was saying.

I was feeling really happy. Someone was talking to me. I didn't want to seem like a freak so I asked her a few questions every now and then. She happily answered me. During our lunch break, Angeliah and one more girl came over from the other section (B) to call Fiorenza so that they could have lunch together. I was left alone again. It didn't bother me that much as I was already very grateful to Fiorenza for sitting with me. She came back after lunch and then began talking about her two best friends. I was kinda envious of their friendship. They seemed really close.

The same routine was followed every single day. I came to know more about Fiorenza and Angeliah. I slowly became more interested in their stories. I wanted to be a part of their group. And that day was approaching quite soon...

Hello everybody!! I had planned to update once a week but the chapter was ready so I thought why not publish it...Anyway thanks a lot to my 78 readers. I am very happy that you guys gave my book a chance but could please vote and comment to show support. That would really inspire me to write more.

I wanted to tell you guys that I recently became an ARMY. I am still a baby ARMY though. I left writing this book after the first chapter but I started writing again after becoming an avid BTS fan. They motivate me to work harder and I very very very very very grateful for their existence. I love them...

The song above(Blue and Grey) has been ringing in my head since Tuesday. I just wanted to put it out there because this song portrays what I was feeling in school without any friends...so yeah... it's a great song everybody...please enjoy it...

That's it for now...I will try to update sooner...Thank you
