Black Flamingo

“You have to make all of those changes within a day Mr. Johnson or be ready to face the consequences.” I barked out the order in the Boardroom. All of them flinched and looked down on their lap. These people needed to know how important the project was for The Knight Inc. I didn’t care how many hours they had to stay here. This project should better get wrapped up in six months.

I have worked my ass off for two years after it. This is my only chance of becoming CEO of The Knight Inc. The guy started shivering in horror. “Ye-ye-Yes, S-s-Sir. All of the changes will be included i-in tomorrow's presentation Sir.” He stuttered. Clearly scared by the tone of my voice. “That’s all for today.” I dismissed all and started heading to my cabin.

“You know you shouldn’t scare them away like that. After all they are your employees. It’s ok to show them mercy sometimes Aidy.” Haley was trying to convince me to change my way of treating people around here. “Thanks Haley. But I think I know how to run this Company well.” I told her off and began striding towards my cabin. I didn't say anything else to hurt her. She was the only one in the building who could talk sense into my brain sometimes.

I didn’t trust anyone here more than Haley. She was like a Mother to me. Ever since Dad retired she became my assistant and even after working here for almost 20 years of her career, she was faithful to this company. She had given all her life to work for my Dad, Mr. Charles Knight as his Assistant and now, she earned my trust too. She really proved to be a Gem for The Knight's.

Sitting on my desk I started to check my schedule for the day. I did my usual paperwork. Going through documents was really hectic sometimes and I hated it. I had to stop when my eyes started to become sore. I decided to go on a round in the open air. I was about to open my door and get out then suddenly somebody pushed the door in my direction at the same time. It was a male figure who collided with me. I stumbled back but gained control and steadied him.

“Are you trying to kill the both of us Patrick?” It was my Best friend Patrick Hawk. After Aaron Blossom, Patrick was the only one I could trust my Business with. I punched his arm and patted him in the back. “No, I was trying to kiss your floor man!!” He got irritated. I had to let him in. Who am I kidding, he would have anyhow breached my privacy without my permission. “It’s my Birthday Aiden. I think you should wish me now.” Sitting on one of the chairs, Patrick pouted like a kid. I acted like remembering something.

“Technically I wished you this morning on a text, exactly at 6 AM. So I don’t see any need to do it again.” I stated as a matter of factly. That made him sad. “Being your and this company’s Legal Advisor, I would recommend you to do so or I will sue you in court Mr. I am Smartass.” He demanded. I couldn’t help but chuckle. This man couldn’t accept No for anything. I let out a defeated sigh. I ran a hand through my already messy hair. “What do you want from me Patrick?” He smirked, like he won some trophy. “We have to visit Black Flamingo tonight.”

I contemplated the idea. There was so much work left of the upcoming project. We had so many deadlines to complete this month. “I can’t. Go with Aaron.” His face fell. “Aaron is busy and I know you have hell lot of work to do man, but just relax. Take a breath Aide or you are gonna end up in an ER.” “It’s still No Patrick.” He stared at me in disbelief. “I just don’t believe you are my Best Friend.” And he left. I engrossed myself in work again. Suddenly the phone on my desk blared.

I checked the caller ID to find out that it was Patrick. “I guess I made myself clear a while ago Ricky.” I deliberately used his nickname. I wanted him to know how serious I was with my work. He fake gasped. “I don’t give a flying shit about it Mr. Knight. I just wanted to inform you that she is here.” I froze in my spot. “Are you sure?” He confirmed.

“Yeah. I can recognise that face from miles. I am at the club right now” That’s it. My suspicion was right. It’s her. I have to find out the truth behind her return. Before things go out of hands. “You better keep an eye on her.” I hung up on him. I wrapped everything up and left for the day. I told Haley to cancel all my meetings and asked her to check up on Amara. I had to get answers now.
