The Trap

Malory

When I wake up, it’s dark outside, and I shift to my side, realising that I’m sleeping on a blanket on the floor beside my occupied bed. Kyle isn’t up yet –and it’s highly likely he won’t be up for a little while, being as sick as he was last night.

When I check my phone, it’s almost time for me to wake up for school anyway, but I’m not focusing on that this instant. I can wake up, make both Kyle and myself some breakfast, check up on him for a bit, and then head out if I’m sure he’ll be okay by himself –though... frankly, I really don’t want to leave this boy in my house by himself.

I struggle to stand in the dark and head to the door, shuffling my way downstairs. It would be hard to see him in this darkness anyway, and I have no intention of startling him by putting on the light.
