Chapter - 5

Clyde's luck and fame died out soon, his front pages failed to catch the attention of the readers, the subscriptions decreased at considerable rates, Clyde Stewart and his Unvoiced Stories were no longer the talk of town. His early enemies, Cepher and Axel lay low waiting for the right time to pull him down; and so Clyde became as such like every other former heroes, history. The Teutonia Times management decided to stop making Unvoiced Stories; they informed Clyde about it. He requested for his former position, they said they would put it to thought; Clyde was anyways asked to stay home till any updates were done. Clyde however was heartbroken at that, all his dreams shattered like a house of cards. There was no one at home and so he decided against going home. He walked through the streets of Berlin, it was not that crimes weren't happening; it was all beyond his reach. Had he got some more time he could finished his recent research and exposed a big unit of crime, but luck and fate wasn't with him. He send his resumes to other agencies who were hiring; writers, news-readers, editors. He even applied at places people refused to, he had just one mission now, survive. He reached home around the usual time, seeing his application a national broadcasting channel had asked him to attend a field activity and prove himself. The interview was at Munich, he decided to go anyways. He told his wife the whole story and also about his travel the next day, she but didn't show any kind of reaction towards the whole matter. She understood one thing, she was secondary. He boarded the Berlin U-Bahn to Munich, the journey was almost seven hours and so it was ten in the morning when he reached Munich. He took a cab to the venue; the venue was the channel's own office grounds. He was to cover a robbery scene, he was send along with some other staff members, when it was finished he returned to the office grounds where they evaluated the work. It was five in the evening when he was called in to the final stage of the whole interview, he called his wife before he was summoned in; he told he'll reach only the next day as the next train was at midnight. The interview went well, but he didn't see it coming, fate. He was eating at a restaurant when the news flashed on the television. The newsreader read thus:

Popular journalist Clyde Stewart was recently found to be spying on the police department activities without the knowledge of the police department. The spy camera was found recently by a Polizeimeister under unexplained circumstances, the police claim that it was installed by Clyde on an official visit and was being used to spy on the police department’s activities over the past months. The police suspect that Clyde is a spy working for an agency targeting the country; the police have declared a national lookout for Clyde.

Clyde was shocked about what he had just heard, he was hunted by the whole police force now, and he had to get home somehow, his wife and child was alone there, they needed to be protected. He quickly finished his meal and hurried up to his hotel room, he locked the door and turned the television on, he needed to be updated. He then undressed, took out his blade and shaved down his facial hairs. He then dressed, packed his bag and pulled a beanie over his head and also put on a jacket with a hood, he left the key on the table and went out unnoticed, and twenty minutes after he left the police arrived at the hotel and began to search for him. As the next train was at midnight, he waited in a night club till it struck midnight. He climbed in the train along with the massive crowd; he had managed to avoid direct looks at any and every surveillance cameras. The train stopped at the Berlin station at ten past seven, he took a cab till his neighborhood and walked the rest. He made sure there was no one spying around, after which he took out his key and turned it in the key hole, it opened and let him in. He closed the door behind him, proceeded to turn on the lights on when he heard many pistols getting loaded and the lights came on, the loaded pistols pointed at him by the policemen who had lying in wait for him…..

Clyde waited on one of the chairs in Axel's cabin, handcuffed he sat there lost in thought; here he was in a police chief's cabin handcuffed and not knowing what lay ahead. Axel came in; he had gone to attend a meeting with some higher officials. They had decided to deport Clyde back to his place, the English Kingdom. Axel informed him about this, remembering that his family would be still permitted in the country he asked where his wife and child was, Axel smiled at that. He motioned Clyde follow him out, he led Clyde to a small room where some people were already seated. Clyde sat on a chair facing them;

“Mr. Stewart, journalist, Teutonia Times,” one man began, “other than journalism I see that you have some dangerous hobbies too, isn't it?”

Clyde remained silent and replied nothing, but the man continued on, “Are you working for an agency or are you operating alone? What is your motive?” This time he spoke;

“I work for no one and I have no motive to harm the country; what I intended is just exposing corruption within higher levels of authority. I've never made a move against this country, I never will………”

After some more time of interrogation, he was taken back to Axel's office where Laura his wife sat with a well-built man; he rose and moved out of the room when Clyde entered. Two other constables also sat there preparing the necessary paper works. One of them seeing Axel got up and asked;

“What shall we do with his wife,” Clyde was about to speak when Cepher Cohen entered, he smiled at Clyde and asked Laura;

“Steve is here to take you home, would you like to join him or this idiot who's going to be kicked out of the country in the next twenty-four hours?” Clyde burst out at that,

“Who the motherfucker is Steve and why the fuck are you here, you bloody son of a bitch,”

“Ask your dear wife, she'll tell you how many times she'd been screwed by my brother, when you were busy making hot news.”

Clyde turned towards Laura, still enraged he asked her,

“Is it true, are you gonna go with pig, answer me,” she replied nothing, she stood there numb.

Clyde burst out at her silence, “Answer me, open your bloody mouth and speak.”

At this she looked at him with blubbery eyes and replied,

“Yes, I'm going with Steve, am taking child along too, it is better that way. For you I am secondary, I'm leaving you, we weren't married and so we needn't get a divorce to part our ways. We were just living together, and that end today and now. Good bye and we see never again.”

Saying she stormed out of the room, and Clyde stood there stunned and out of words, he felt like he was hit hard on the face. His wife and life partner just walked out of his life with another guy. He was now down, broken and shattered.
