I shuffle towards the living room and when I see her I lean against the wall and say, "I thought you were coming tomorrow or later on I guess." She looks up from her laptop and says, "Me neither, we finished earlier than I had expected so I took the first flight home but enough of that how are you? And how's school?" I sigh and say, "It's okay."

Mum furrows her eyebrows and then smiles again, "I've got some homework to do I won't be out of my room for a while so don't worry if I don't hear when you call I'll be listening to some music too... So see you later Mum," I say and slowly turn around heading for the stairs. "Oh okay well I'll call you for dinner," she says softly after me and I slowly take the stairs one by one already thinking of the assignment I so dread.
