Chapter Forty Three

"Jay, I brought you something." Elijah says, reaching into his jacket pocket.

"Is it that car I asked for? With the lights and music?" He asks hopefully, his face brightening.

"Sorry kiddo. I'll get you that next time. Remind me." He says the last part to me and I nod.

"Instead, I got you this." He says cheerfully, holding out a little box, getting on his knees to get closer to him.

"You're gonna propose to me?" He asks him, scrunching up his face in confusion and taking a few steps back, crashing into the table behind him. I laugh at his response. I'd probably think the same thing. The box does look like a ring box. Elijah simply rolls his eyes.

"You're watching too many movies with the girls aren't you?" He asks, and Jay shakes his head quickly.

"Well, I'm not proposing to you. Here, take it." He says putting the box into his tiny hands, folding his fingers over the top, so he doesn't drop it. He looks to me, but I shake my head. I've got no clue.
