Chapter Forty Six

"Walmart?"

"Walmart?"

Jay and I both ask at the same time with the same expression and thoughts.

"You're kidding me." Jay mutters, under his breath, his eyebrows tying together, from his anger. He looks just like Elijah when he's angry, except with less defined eyebrows and a cheeky face. He bites the inside of his cheek and groans.

"Nope. Next stop, Walmart." Elijah smiles, widely, repositioning himself in his seat.

"Why Walmart? We're hungry and we need food." I say, trying to argue.

"There's plenty of food at Walmart. A variety." He says, acting wisely. It's not a lunch kinda place, though.

"Then, will you let me get whatever I want?" Jay asks, his eyes full of hope, more hopeful than they have been these last few minutes, because I think it's our last option. Elijah seems very hell-bent on driving us to Walmart for lunch today.

"Yes, sir." And Jay's mood immediately brightens.

"Even cupcakes and soft cookies?" He adds, causing me to stiffen in my spot.
