Chapter Fifty Six

"I haven't seen you in years." The woman exaggerates.

"Nope, just a few days. Escaping the cold." I say, waiting for the Uber I forgot to call. I quickly call for one. I take a seat on the porch steps as I wait.

"Even we are surviving." She says again.

"You guys are superheroes." I say sarcastically, before hopping down to my Uber that got here awfully quickly.

"See ya later, lovebirds!" I holler before getting into the car.

"Happy mood?" The driver asks and I nod with a bright smile.

He begins driving. And I plug in my headphones, to buzz off the annoying brake sound.

We're going downtown baby.

He stops in front of a building.

"We can't drive further. Too much traffic." He says and I nod.

"Thank you." I say before getting out. I feel a chilly wind hit me and I almost fall back. He quickly drives back the way we came from and I stand there, not knowing where to go.
