I opened my eyes to find myself in what was commonly referred to as the second world, or new reality. This world was basically a collective lucid dream of all the adult citizens of the world. However as this was a natural phenomena and not something that was under any company's control, that meant that the rules of society were not enforced here to the extent they should have been.
In the beginning this world was extremely chaotic because of this. Murder, Rape, extortion and slavery were common place. Only after a the world governments had come together to make rules for this new world did things get better. Thats right, the actions a person performed in the new reality could have lasting consequences on their real life.
If you committed a haenous crime here, and were proved guilty in a court, you would suffer in reality. Though the punishments were often less severe, unless the crimes were extreme. There had been a few cases of the perpetrators actually being put to death in reality, but these people were notorious villains who had committed crimes horrible enough to make the most extreme serial killers look like simple playground bullies.
One such example was Katherine Longboat, aka the weiner Guillatine. She was a woman who had been forced into prostitution by the big corporations in control of a certain city. The company owned her in this world and out. Her story was actually rather tragic, but the ending was a nightmare for men everywhere.
She earned the nickname guillatine after she repeatedly bit of the members of her clients. In 'game' while tragic, the affliction was not permanent, as a healing spell would restore the lost member. Unfortunately the woman had brought her strange fetish into real life. Her looks were above average, and she eventually managed to free herself from the company.
From there she became the gold digger from hell. She would seduce rich young men, marry them, and on their wedding night she would use her signature move and then kill them. She would take whatever riches she could, and then assume a new identity and start all over again.
She was eventually caught, and her crimes both in this world and the next were made known to the populus. She was sentenced to death, with her execution happening only hours later. It was the first reported case of a woman recieving the death penalty in over 50 years.
While this serial killer tirade may seem unconnected, but this world has no coincidences. When I opened my eyes I was met with a guide, a guardian angel if you will. Guardian angels were the souls of the departed hero's of the past. Only those people who had gained the favor of their perspective god/goddesses had the chance to become a guardian angel, and mine just happened to be a beautiful catgirl in her late 20's.
She had blond hair, and rather large assets. Her eyes were a piercing green, and she gave me a toothy smile. Her image sent a shiver down my spine. I recognized her at first glance, Katherine Longboat, the weiner guillotine.
She looked at me in contempt.
"So you are the one the goddess is interested in. You're weak. Pathetically so."
"The goddess? which goddess has an interest in me?"
I was not so sure that I would want the interest of a goddess who allowed this woman to continue her existence.
Katherine seemed to notice my disdain as I looked at her and scoffed.
"Yet another fool who believes the lies of the patriarchy I see. I would say You're a disgrace to women kind everywhere, but you're not even a real woman are you? Just a man who the goddess blessed with a woman's body."
Anger filled me as I listened to her words. "Your goddess is the one who did this to me? The one who made me a woman!! And not only that she paired me with the infamous weiner Guillatine?"
The woman's eyes narrowed as she looked at me. "Feel lucky boy that I cannot harm you, the goddess has her plans."
The woman through a couple of books at me. "Take these, the goddess has determined that they are essential for your growth. Though I have no idea why she is willing to invest so much into a man."
I looked down at the two skill books. [Apprentice Blacksmithing] and [Elemental Companion]. Neither of which was offensive skill. However neither were passive skills as the other three I had either.
Blacksmithing would allow me to forge items. The best blacksmiths were dwarves, followed by humans. If you thought of a famous blacksmith you were likely thinking of one of those two. Rarely a famous half-elf or even elven blacksmith would pop into existence, but their potential was normally far bellow their Dwarven and human counterparts.
As for a catgirl like me? It was unheard of. Beastman blacksmiths were common. but catgirls had innately low strength, which was counter productive for the trade.
I sighed. I could understand why this skill was important for me. Cultivating fire meant I would need to absorb flames, being a blacksmith meant I would have a close relationship with flames. I could theoretically cultivate both my blacksmithing and my flames at the same time.
More importantly my status as a fire elementalist could truly shine in this field. I would not need a furnace if my skill level grew high enough, but that was a very large distance away.
[Elemental Companion] on the other hand was a pet type skill. An elemental spirit would act as a familiar for me, granting me a small amount of combat strength. The problem was the spirit would be limited by my own affinity level, as well as my physical level.
My contracted spirit would be just as weak as I am currently, and would not be able to grow stronger until I myself grew stronger. While I had unlimited potential, that did not mean much to me now.
I sighed as I learned both skills. With this I had already learned half of the skills I would ever be able to learn. A person could only learn 10, and already five of my skills had been taken up. I had not a single offensive skill, the only means of defending myself would be through my contracted spirit, If I could even get one desperate enough to take me as a partner.
Little did I know the solution to my problem had already presented itself to me.
