Marlena frowned at him. "What are you talking about?"

Destrian let out a low chuckle. "Heh, Marlena. You are usually quite smart. How could you fall for such a lowly scheme? The trap wasn't even well thought out, there were several loopholes. How could you not see through it?"

Marlena pondered over the entire order of incidents. She found a few odd points but didn't dare to come to a conclusion, because there was no way her mother could do such a thing. "What are you insinuating is happening?"

"Exactly what you think." Destrian shattered her hope. "If she didn't slip up and try to use the excuse of saving innocent lives, I may not have suspected her.
