Are You Ready To Finally Meet Your Little Sister?

"Do you have any questions before you go?" The nurse asked as she looked between Damon and I.

I held Scarlett close as she was swaddled up in her blanket. After another day in the hospital we were finally going home. My biggest fear was that she would have to stay here since she was early but that wasn't the case. This little girl definitely has proved herself to a little fighter.

I felt a little anxious about going home though. At home there was just us to take care of her. There were no nurses to offer to come and take her to the nursery for a while. The only time I had ever taken care of a baby was when I did a few babysitting jobs in high school but I still felt like my knowledge from those just wasn't enough. We had Rose to help but I couldn't just pawn Scarlett off on her, she was my responsibility.

"No. I don't have any questions." I answered.

"Okay, if there's anything you need don't hesitate to give us a call or to come on in. Dr. Hyde stated that you had set up your appointment in two weeks to see how you're doing postpartum wise but if you need anything before that definitely call his office." The nurse spoke seriously. Postpartum depression was something to not be messed with and with everything that's gone on Dr. Hyde felt I was at a higher risk for it to develop.

"Okay." I nodded.

Damon had ran ahead to bring the car around while the nurse wheeled me down in a wheelchair. I still held Scarlett close to me as she slept. I was still amazed that I had birthed a child of my own. She had a loving family who just couldn't wait to meet her.

After things had calmed down we called my mother and Martin to let them all know Scarlett Constance Tipton had made her entrance to the world. Martin was touched that her middle name was in honor of Constance. Damon had held back when it came to suggesting middle names a while ago as he wanted me to name her since he had named Sterling. When I mentioned his mother's name his eyes lit up and it just felt right.

We reached the black BMW and Damon got out of the car. He came over to me and offered to take Scarlett so he could put her in the car. I handed her over and the nurse helped me out of the chair. My body was still sore and all I wanted to do was to go lay in my own bed at this point. I couldn't wait to get home.

The nurse helped me into the car and Damon finished getting Scarlett strapped in. He then got into the driver's seat and we were on our way home. Sterling had returned and now was being watched by Rose while they waited for us. We wanted him to meet his little sister before anyone else did. My mother and Martin would come over a little later after we had some time as just the four of us.

"You doing okay Love?" Damon asked. I knew he was concerned when the talks of postpartum depression came up. He was already feeling down and the last thing we needed was for me to get that way as well.

"Yes. I'm just a little terrified." I sighed as I looked out of the window.

"Why?" He glanced over at me and then back to the road.

"This is new. What if I manage to screw it up and she hates me for the rest of her life?" I responded.

"When I first brought the idea of Amethyst to you, you asked pretty much the same thing. You asked what if you screwed up. Now Love, did you screw that up?" He looked over for a moment as he waited for my answer.

"No." I answered,

"Exactly, Amethyst was like your first baby and now it's been doing fantastic. You can do this just like you did that." He remained focused on the road.

"But you pretty much helped set that up for success." I mumbled.

"I just have the name that brought the attention. You made the designs, that's the successful part. But just like you had some of my help with Amethyst you'll have all of my help here too." He looked over at me once again and I could see some disappointment in his expression. "I'm sorry if my situation has made you feel like you won't have my help Love. I promise I will be here for you. We can do this."

I looked back over at him and gave him a small reassuring smile. "Okay."

The car pulled into the garage and we were finally home. I took my time getting out of the car as Damon grabbed the carseat containing Scarlett. He carried her in one arm and gave the other for me to hold onto. We walked into the house and Sterling was waiting for us in the doorway.

"You're home! Can I see her?! Can I see her?!" His small voice was filled with so much excitement. I knew from how he was at the orphanage that he was going to be a fantastic big brother.

"Sterling." Damon spoke to get his attention. "Why don't you go sit on the couch so we can get your mother and sister in the house and comfortable first."

Sterling nodded. "Okay daddy." He ran back towards the living room. I could tell by how fast he went that he was still being careful around Damon. Damon still needed to fix that by sitting down and talking with him.

We walked into the living room where Damon helped me to the couch. I sat down and Sterling came to sit next to me. Damon set the carseat down and began to undo the straps to take Scarlett out. He pulled her out and made sure she remained supported. She let out a few whimpers but calmed down quickly after.

"Are you ready to finally meet your little sister?" I asked Sterling with a smile.

"Yes." he nodded his head.

His eyes were filled with anticipation as he watched Damon bring her over. He took a seat next to Sterling and handed her over most of the way. He still kept his hands where they were needed to support her. Sterling's eyes grew wide as he looked at her.

"She's so pretty, like you mommy." He glanced up at me and then back to Scarlett.

"Yes she is." I agreed.

"How does it feel to be a big brother?" Damon asked.

"I can't wait to play with her!" Sterling's excitement caused Scarlett to stir in his arms. He lowered his voice before speaking again. "There are so many things I can teach her."

"Is that so?" I smiled.

"Are you prepared to keep the boys away from her?" Damon teased.

Sterling looked up at him and nodded. "We have to keep Scar safe. I won't let anyone be mean to my baby sister."

"Scar?" I looked at Damon. "I like it, it's a cute little nickname."
