Damon Had Lied

The next few days everything seemed fine. Damon was in one of the best moods I had seen him in. He was enjoying himself while he played with the kids and he seemed actually relaxed. However it didn't last long. Something had set him off.

It was after he had a late night at work. He seemed frustrated about something but he refused to talk about it. I tried not to pry too much as it could be an off day, but it wasn't just a day. His bad mood seemed like it was here to stay. He was more irritable and he was short with Sterling here and there.

I sat behind my desk at Amethyst. I was trying to figure out what to do. I wanted to figure out a way to help him without annoying him. I felt like the more I tried to push for answers he would pull away as a result. I couldn't have that, it could risk him deciding to up and leave for business.

I picked up the phone on my desk and punched in a few numbers. I decided to check in with Dr. Henrie to see what information I could get. I was authorized to talk about Damon's medical situations so maybe I could get an answer on why he went back on his progress. Maybe Dr. Henrie could tell me what to do to help fix him.

"Dr. Henrie's office, may I ask who's calling?" The receptionist asked in a cheerful tone.

"This is Kaydence Tipton. Is Dr. Henrie available to speak? It's about my husband who is a patient of his." I spoke through the phone.

"Just one second. Please hold." The receptionist then placed me on hold as she was checking in on the doctor's availability. Finally her voice came back over the phone. "He's in, I'll go ahead and put you through."

"Thank you." I responded.

"Not a problem." She kept her welcoming tone and then proceeded to place me on a hold for a moment.

"Mrs. Tipton?" Dr. Henrie's voice came over once I had been put through to his private phone in his office.

"Dr. Henrie, thank you for taking my call. I wanted to talk to you about a matter with my husband." I got directly to the point. Dr. Henrie worked in a hospital, I couldn't risk him being called away for an emergency related issue.

"Not a problem. What did you want to talk about?" He asked.

"Damon seems to have taken a step back instead of continuing to get better." I started and then proceeded to explain everything going on. Dr. Henrie listened to my five to ten minute rant until I was finally finished. "How can I help him? I asked.

"Let me check in on something real quick. It should only take a couple minutes." Dr. Henrie spoke after taking in all the information I had just given him.

"Okay." I waited patiently for Dr. Henrie to come back on the phone.

"Mrs. Tipton?" Dr. Henrie came back on after a few minutes of silence. He was checking to see if I was still on the line.

"I'm still here." I responded.

"I was looking back on his record for treatment. It seems that he has yet to refill his prescription and there are no further notes from Dr. Gordon after the six week appointment." I could hear a slight disappointment in his tone.

"So what does that mean?" I had a good idea where this was going but I needed to hear the words to confirm it.

"It means he stopped the medication and the therapy." Dr. Henrie sighed.

"I see." My suspicions had been confirmed. "Thank you Dr. Henrie. That's all the information I needed."

"Mrs. Tipton, I hope I'm not overstepping here." He paused as he was hesitant to continue. "But I think it's important to get him back to being treated. He'll only get worse if he doesn't."

"I understand. Thank you." I hung up the phone and stood up from my chair. I then walked out of the back room and to where Julie was sitting. "I have to go take care of something, please watch the store."

"No problem." She smiled but then it dropped when she saw the serious look on my face. "Everything okay?"

"I don't know yet. We'll talk later." I responded as I headed for the door.

I got into the car and began to drive. It felt like a punch to the gut that Damon had lied about his treatment. I knew something was up but it didn't mean I was right. I chose to ignore it to give him space but instead all it did was hurt his progress. I didn't know what to do from here. I was going to the only person I could think of, Martin.

I pulled into his driveway and quickly exited the car. I knocked on the door and a surprised Davis opened it. "Mrs. Tipton, what are you doing here?"

"Is Martin in?" I asked instead of answering his question. "I need to see him immediately."

"He's here. He's in his study. I can take you to him." Davis offered.

"That would be great, thank you." I nodded as I stepped inside.

I followed Davis up the stairs to Martin's study. He knocked on the door and waited for Martin's voice to approve his entrance. "Come in." We heard through the door.

Davis opened the door enough to peek his head inside. "Mrs. Tipton is here to see you. She says it's an urgent matter."

"Kaydence? Let her in." Martin responded.

Davis proceeded to open the door all the way. I walked past him and stopped in front of Martin. Martin gave a wave with his hand to excuse Davis. He watched as Davis shut the door to make sure we were alone. It was like he could sense how serious this matter was.

"Well, this is a surprise. How are you?" Martin asked as he turned his attention to me.

"I'm good. How are you?" I asked. I wanted to make sure he wasn't already stressed before I opened up to him about why I'm here.

"I'm well. Now what is it that's so urgent?" Martin asked as he looked at me. His gaze was then taken over by a look of worry. "The children are okay right?!"

"Yes." I nodded. "The children are great."

"Then what brought you here?" He looked at me curiously as he waited for me to explain further.

I took a deep breath in and let it out to try to calm myself. Right now I am a mix of hurt and frustrated. Damon had lied and it wasn't about something small, this was a big thing. This was something that affected our family entirely.

Finally I answered Martin. "We need to talk about Damon."
