What Does He Think We Need To Talk About

I looked over the final samples of the winter line. I needed to see if there were any last minute changes I wanted to make. The line was due to come out in just a couple weeks so this was the last opportunity if I saw something I didn't like. I had to make sure each detail was exactly how I had wanted it.

"Try not to think about it too much." Julie spoke as she came into the back room and sat down across from me.

"I'm just being thorough." I responded.

"Well, are they looking how you expected?" She asked.

My eyes looked over the screen once more. "Yes. I haven't seen anything I haven't liked yet. I still have a few more items to go over though."

"You could always give yourself a break." She suggested.

"No." My eyes remained on my computer. "My approval needs to be back as soon as possible. Once they have my okay they can start producing everything."

"Your husband is rubbing off on you." Julie spoke nonchalantly.

"What do you mean?" I looked up from the computer to give her my attention.

"You're becoming quite the workaholic yourself Kay." She had an amused smirk on her lips.

"I don't know if I should be offended or flattered by that comment." I responded.

"It's not bad." She let out a small chuckle. "It's just interesting to see how similar the two of you actually are."

I finished reviewing everything on the winter line and sent my approval over. At this point usually things were just how I wanted them when they sent things over. There were just the occasional times that something that seemed to work on a sketch looked way off when it was actually on the clothing. It only took the team a couple hours to fix something for me as well. Damon definitely knew what he was doing when he put all these people together when Amethyst first began.

"Any exciting plans for the night?" Julie asked as I gathered my things.

"Not really." I answered. "Just going home to the family. Nothing too exciting. You?"

"Cody and I are going to dinner." She smiled.

"That's good. I'm glad this whole thing has worked out for the both of you." I shot her a smile in return. "I'll see you later."

I left Amethyst and Max drove me home. I didn't protest being driven around right now. It gave less chance for Zach to try to catch me alone again. Last time he had been pleasant but that's before we knew who he was. He had to have known by now we were well aware of him and what he did.

We drove through the traffic and then through the gate that led into the neighborhood right before Damon's mansion. From what I understood the people in the neighborhood were other business owners and rich people. Some of them were other well known people around Nashville and like living behind the safety the gate provided. It definitely gave me a little more piece of mind knowing that we were guarded by the gate and the security with it.

We pulled into the driveway of the mansion and I got out of the car. I headed right into the house. The gate had brought up a good point and I wanted to discuss it with Damon. But it appeared he hadn't come home just yet. I checked my phone and had a text from him that he was running a little late today but he would be home in about thirty minutes.

"Mommy!" Sterling greeted me as I walked into the living room.

"Hey." I smiled.

"How was work?" My mom asked as she stood up and walked over to me with Scarlett on her hip.

"It was good. Just getting the new line ready." I answered.

"Good." She smiled for a moment and then got serious. "I may have caused you a little trouble with Sterling." She spoke lowly.

"What do you mean?" I asked with a puzzled expression.

"Well it's getting close to Halloween so I asked him about trick or treating. Did you know he has never been?" My mom seemed shocked.

"Well, he did live in an orphanage so I'm sure they did their own thing." I responded. I assume Mrs. Strahm probably never wanted to take the children out like that as there were so many of them.

"Well he asked what it was and I told him about how I took you every year. Now he wants to go." My mother continued on with the topic. "I told him that was something he had to talk about with you and Damon."

I nodded. "I see."

I didn't know how I felt about him going out to get candy this year. There was a threat on the loose. Was it really that safe to go out? How would Damon even feel about the idea? He might shut it down without a second thought with Zach around still.

"Mommy, can we please?!" Sterling pleaded as he had been listening to the conversation between my mother and I. "It sounds like so much fun!"

"Umm." I bit my lip as I thought about what to say at this moment. "Let me talk to your father when he gets home. I'll see what he thinks, okay?"

"Okay!" Sterling nodded excitedly.

My mother kept me company as I waited for Damon to get home. He walked into the door about the time he said he would. Sterling rushed up and greeted him with a hug. "Hey." Damon spoke in a pleasant tone.

"Mommy has something she wants to talk to you about." Sterling spoke right away. Clearly he was going to waste no time for this trick or treating thing.

"She does?" Damon raised a brow as his eyes fell on me.

"It would seem that way." I stood up from the couch and handed Scarlett to my mother. "It's more of a private conversation between the adults."

"I see. Let's go to the study then." Damon led the away down the hallway and opened the door for us to enter inside.

We entered inside the study and I sat across from him as he sat behind the computer. I wasn't sure exactly how to bring up the conversation. Sterling didn't give me the chance to really think about the best way. I didn't want it to end up frustrating Damon.

"Well, what does he think we need to talk about?" Damon asked as I had been silent for too long. "You seem nervous, relax and let's get it over with."

"My mother was talking to him about Halloween." I sighed. "He wants to do what everyone else does and he wants to go out to get candy."
