Give 'Em Hell

I called Damon right after Zachariah left the store. He was pleased with the fact I had taken the initiative to help capture Zachariah. The plan was I would get dinner with him, he would think Damon was out of town but in reality he was on standby. After dinner Zachariah would be taken by surprise and then taken to Damon's warehouse. We planned for it to look like he was checking in with Meredith through texts to make sure she didn't begin to suspect anything. Really it would be Damon sending the messages.

After coming up with the plan Damon came right over to Amethyst. We got into the car as I felt like it was time to do the one thing I had been avoiding yesterday. There was someone else who deserved the truth.

Damon held my hand tightly as I took a deep breath in and out. I was a mix of anger and nerves as I looked upon my mother's home. I decided it was better to tell her the truth sooner rather than later. Then once the Bushemp's were dealt with we could fully leave this all behind us.

"I know it's hard, but it'll be okay." Damon spoke gently to help give me the courage to make it up the porch.

"I hope so." I responded.

We ascended the stairs and my hand slightly trembled as I reached out to press the button for the doorbell. We waited patiently for her to come and answer. Rose had Scarlett and Sterling was at school, we made sure that my mother knew this was a private conversation we wanted to have. Especially since I knew this was going to be a hard and emotional topic.

"Hey." She smiled for a moment but it quickly went away as she noticed how serious are faces were. "What's wrong?"

"Can we come in before we get into that?" I asked.

"Of course." She opened the door and stepped back to let us in.

Damon and I headed for the living room and she followed behind after shutting the door. Damon and I took a seat and she looked between the two of us. She had a look of concern on her face. I knew in her voice on the phone she knew something was up when I told her to stay home today because Rose would have Scarlett taken care of. She was about to find out exactly what was going on.

"Is everything between the two of you okay?" She questioned.

"Everything is fine with Kaydence and I." Damon answered.

"Good." She nodded. "What's going on then?"

"Mom, sit down please." My voice was quiet as I spoke. I was clearly on edge but how would you feel if you had to tell your mother all the disgusting things her in-law's were up to?

She took a seat across from me. "Kaydence, you're scaring me."

My eyes met hers. "Do you remember the day that dad died?"

I could see she didn't expect my question. There was a slight hurt in her eyes as she thought back to that day. "Yes, I remember that day very well unfortunately. What does that have to do with anything though?"

"Mom." I paused as I took a deep breath in and let it out. "Dad's death wasn't an accident. He was killed on purpose."

Her eyes went wide. "By who?" He voice trembled.

I tried to find the words but I couldn't. Damon noticed and answered for me. "Meredith is the one who put a hit out on Samuel. I'm so sorry Mira." His voice was gentle and soft like it had been before.

"What?" I could see the disbelief on her face. "No. That can't be right. Why, why would she do something like that?"

Damon pulled out the papers he had showed me and let my mom look them over. "For money." He answered.

"There's more." I added which made her look up from the paper.

We proceeded to tell her everything else. How Meredith had interfered with my life and almost ended up killing her. I could see she was feeling emotions similar to mine. There was so much anger and hurt in her eyes as she learned the truth. I knew she was holding back though, just like I had.

"All of this for money?" She spoke once she had all the information. "Money that we didn't even have?"

"That's where you're wrong." Damon responded. "When Samuel left Bushemp Industries his share went with him and he put it into a trust fund for Kaydence, set to release on her twenty-fifth birthday."

"How? How come I didn't know about this trust?" The confusion on my mother's face was clear. "He never said a word about it."

"Looking further into it he kept it from you in hopes to keep you safe. He had it under another name, an alias he used." Damon further explained the details that had been uncovered. "Samuel knew the lengths Meredith would go to get her hands on the money, if you knew about it then you would be in danger. However, apparently you were in danger regardless until I stepped in."

"Wait a minute." There was one detail that didn't sit right with me. "Why would he set all this money up for me and leave her with nothing? Why didn't he set something up to take care of my mother?"

Damon looked over at me. "He did. Your father was a smart man."

"What do you mean?" My mother looked even more confused.

"Samuel set up a portion of money to go to you in the event of his death. But he had it set up to come to you as if it was from his life insurance. Meredith wouldn't question something like that." Damon answered.

My mother's look of surprise went away as this seemed to make sense to her. "I thought it was odd that there were two checks that came, when I called on it though they said it was all legit. I paid off the house and a few other debts with it."

We continued talking with my mother. I wanted her to know that I was determined to avenge my father. I didn't go into all of the details with her though. The less she knew the better. Things were going to get dark for the Bushemp's, very dark.

I hugged her tightly goodbye once we were finished up. "Your father would be very proud of you, you know that right?"

"Yeah." I nodded as we let go of each other. "I'll make sure they get what they deserve. For me, for you and for him. They won't be getting away with anything they've done. I'll make sure of it."

She nodded. "Give 'em hell."
