Gold badge

".. Good thing you got admitted," I said.

I am hoping I got in too. Because I knew I could not have high hopes like her.

"Don't worry, I have a feeling you will get admitted too," she said. She must have noticed the envy in my eyes.

"I hope so," I replied.

"Bella Wisdom," I heard my name. "That's my name," I said.

"All the best I will just sit here and wait for you," she said. I was surprised she made the offer, but I nodded happily and walked inside.

There were two ladies and a man in the next room. They smiled at me, Come forward, one of the ladies said. I moved forward, looking at the table in front of me—their names were written on the tag in front of them. The lady to the right is Mrs. warmer, the one to the left is miss Bright and the man Mr Randy.

"Can you tell us what inspired you to write this story?" Mr Randy asked.

"Yes, sir, it was due to a conversation I had with my classmate back in high school. Most of their opinions were carried out by some of the characters," I said a lot of other things, but sincerely I could not remember. The story was like a part of me, giving me comfort and hope.

"Your story is interesting; it has suspense and all the basic needs of any short story," miss Bright said.

"Yes, I must confess you gave me an unanticipated ending, which was very creative," Mrs. warmer said.

"It has a lot of flaws, too," Mr Randy said and made a deliberate pause that made my heart miss a beat.

I quietly prayed that my flaws would be overlooked. Because I don't know what I would do if being rejected. "We have carefully put everything into consideration, and we think you deserve a chance at Mount wings college,"

I looked at him with surprise, I was not sure I totally understood what he was saying. "Yes, you do," Miss. Bright said, "After all, if the write-up was perfect, you will not need to attend mount Wings. "Congratulations, Miss Wisdom," Mrs Warmer said.

I smiled as I collected the gold badge held out for me, which was a sign of my admission. I walked out with tears in my eyes, as I could not believe I had gotten in.

"What is the problem?" Elizabeth asked as soon as she saw me.

She walked up to me. I could hear the next name being called. I just could not find my voice; as I was thrilled, I opened my hands to show her the golden badge

"yes," she said in excitement, hugging me. "I knew you would get in." We walked out together, and she left me to go meet her mum, who was waiting for her like my Dad was. "I knew you could do it," I heard her mum say to her as they hugged.

I ran to Dad with joy. "I got the admission," I said as soon as I was close to him. "That's my girl," he said, giving me a hug. "I knew you would make me proud." I sat back in the front seat as we got set to go. Dad promises me a gift for making it into Mount Wings College.

I thought about how I was about to give this chance away when mum said I had no brain or talent. How could I thank Daniel enough for giving me the courage to try?

I had told Dad to forget Mount wings since mum saw it as a waste of funds and time. I was lying on my bed one afternoon thinking about how I was going to waste another year going to sit at mum's shopping mall. While she stayed home doing nothing.

When Daniel stepped into my room. "Nice story," he said, dropping one of the books I had written down one of my short stories. "How did you get this?" I asked, surprised because I knew I never gave it to him.

"I saw it lying on your bed one evening when I came into your room to help you pick up your phone," He answered.

I nodded, "too bad it's not good enough to get me admitted into Mount wings," I said.

"Are you joking right now? I know I am not the story or novel type, but the story was very interesting," he argued

"Yes, I know, but it has a lot of flaws that I can't lay my figures on. It is not as smooth, sweet and interesting as the ones I read," I told him.

"Maybe not, but those stories are written and edited by professionals. I don't think Mount Wings is looking for professional students. I think they are looking for students with potential," he said.

Yeah, maybe I don't just think I am good enough, I said. He smiled and rubbed his right hand on his hair. Then ask, "is that because of what mum said?"

"Yes, she thinks it is a total waste of time and money," I answered. "Well, she is not the one paying the money, and Dad is not complaining," he said.

I looked at him. "See, mum is just doing her job. It is her duty to make sure Dad does not waste his money. And Dad also has to take care of us and support us in any way he can. And we both know that Dad does not have a problem spending that amount of money," he adds after a pause.

"What if I don't get admitted?" I asked. "Then you don't get admitted," he answered. "That way, you will know. Don't live your life based on assumptions and fear of failure.

Who knows, you might get the admission," he said. I gave it a thought, and I decided to give it a shot. I planned on telling Dad I was willing to try once he got back from work that day. But surprisingly, Dad returned from work with the forms. He said that Daniel had called him to get the format for me.

How can I thank him enough for believing in me, even when I did not believe in myself? I will give him a treat tomorrow, I concluded to myself.
