Chapter 3: Flames in the night

"...It's you?" Wei Jinhai asked while continuing to stare at the person in front of him shamelessly.

The person looked up from the book he was reading, his pale blue eyes glistening in the light as he gave a blank stare, "Hmm? You know me?"

"Seriously?? The whole school knows who you are, even the first years and new exchange students like me know." Wei Jinhai said sounding astonished by the fact that he didn't even know how popular he was.

"Yeah, I supposed they would. I just didn't expect people from the Demon Realm to know as well." He said as he looked down to continue reading his book. "And just to warn you, Jin Fu really doesn't like your kind so you might want to avoid him."

"Huh? So Jin Fu is the Young Master, then you must be the Prince..." Wei Jinhai was trying to remember the Prince's name, when the door opened with a loud bang.

The tall, golden haired Young Master, Jin Fu walked in.

He was carrying a large bag and dumped it onto the nearest bed. "Hey, Chen Liwei, how come you went to the dorms so early. We could have had some fun teasing the first years."

"So that's his name, " Wei Jinhai thought to himself.

"Forget it. They would only be happy that the Prince spoke to them, whether it was greeting or teasing them." The Prince, Chen Liwei, said sounding a bit down.

Jin Fu flung his arm around Chen Liwei's shoulders, "It's not sooo bad being well known. Sure there are some bad parts but think about it, you can get all the girls you want!"

Jin Fu started laughing while Chen Liwei just rolled his eyes, "Knock it off."

"Hahaha...huh?" Jin Fu was still laughing uncontrollably when he suddenly noticed there was another person there as well. He looked Wei Jinhai up and down, "And you are?"

Wei Jinhai almost wanted to roll his eyes but had to control the urge to do so, "You only now just noticed me? I've been standing here since the moment you walked in."

"Yeah, yeah just answer the question," Jin Fu said irritated.

Before Wei Jinhai could answer, Jin Fu's face turned into a scarily dark expression.

"You're one of those demons aren't you," He said in a low, threatening tone.

"Yeah, no shit Sherlock. Angels definitely have fangs and bright red eyes." Wei Jinhai said sarcastically.

Jin Fu, "Hey! Don't give me attitude! You scumbags should know your place."

"Jin Fu." Chen Liwei said sternly.

"Hmph, but you don't look exactly like a demon either. What are you?" He completely ignored Chen Liwei and continued trying to pick a fight.

"Jin Fu, stop it now." Chen Liwei finally put his book down to try and stop Jin Fu before the argument got out of hand.

"Why are you suddenly siding with this bastard," Jin Fu looked at Chen Liwei before turning his full attention back to Wei Jinhai.

Before he could say anything however, someone walked in through the open door, "Oh, aren't you that half and half guy?"

"Half and...what? What's this guy talking about?"

The person continued, "Weren't you there this morning? He's the guy that's only half demon."

"Half demon? I've never heard of someone who is only half a demon. What other half are you?" Jin Fu demanded.

"Uhh-" Wei Jinhai was about to try and shift the topic onto something else, but unfortunately the other guy answered for him.

"That's the thing, nobody knows, not even he himself knows!"

Jin Fu raised an eyebrow and gave the guy a disbelieving look. "How can he not know what other half he is?"

"It's true! Ask him."

"You guys do realise I'm standing right here," Wei Jinhai gave a sigh and continued, "It's true. Technically I only know I'm half demon because of my fangs. I'm adopted so I don't know which Realms my parents were from."

Chen Liwei gave him a slight glance from the corners of his eyes.

"Anyway let's not talk about my non-existent family background. I'm going to sleep."

"Hmph, who would want to listen to your family background." Jin Fu said as he started unpacking his bag.

"Hey I just realised we don't know each other's names yet." The other guy said, "I'm Hu Feng. I'm a Tiger Spirit."

"Oh yeah, I'm Wei Jinhai."

"I already know those two from last year so there's no need to introduce ourselves again." Hu Feng said as he climbed into his bed.

Chen Liwei also went to bed without saying a word.

As Wei Jinhai was about to climb into bed as well, Jin Fu grabbed him by his shirt, yanked him forward and whispered in his ear threateningly, "Listen here, I don't care if Chen Liwei doesn't want me to pick on you. I don't even know why he's defending you in the first place. But if I see you, I don't care when or where, I won't just let you be."

Jin Fu released his grip then went to bed, leaving Wei Jinhai standing there flabbergasted.

He then tried to shake it off and switched off the lights to get some sleep, "This is going to be a long two years," he thought before falling into a deep slumber.

It was a silent night.

All the students were sleeping and the crickets were chirping. There was a slight breeze causing a light rustling in the trees.

It was almost a perfectly peaceful night, except for the smell of smoke gradually making its way to the student's dorms.

Chen Liwei was the first to notice.

He was a light sleeper, so the minute the smell reached the building he immediately woke up. "Jin Fu, wake up something doesn't smell right."

Jin Fu just groaned and rolled over, ignoring Chen Liwei flat.

"Jin Fu! Wake up!" Chen Liwei whisper shouted and shook Jin Fu until he finally said, "What is it? It's midnight."

"Something doesn't smell right." Chen Liwei said trying to sniff the air.

Jin Fu stared at him, "What are you? A dog? What in the world are-"

Ring Ring Ring!

Chen Liwei and Jin Fu's faces fell, "It's a fire!"

The fire alarm kept on ringing. Causing all the students to wake up and panic.

"Everyone calm down! Wake up the remaining sleeping students and evacuate to the nearest exit!" The third year in charge of the dorms said as he tried to calm down the panicking first years.

All the students rushed out as quick as they could as the dorms gradually caught on fire.

Once everyone was out, they could see the teachers rushing towards the buildings.

Mo Dingbang saw Qi Chaoxing and ran to her, "Qi Chaoxing! Are you okay? Where's Wei Jinhai?"

"I'm fine, luckily all the girls in my building got out alright. But why are you asking me where Wei Jinhai is? I thought he was supposed to be with you." Qi Chaoxing said starting to panic a little.

Mo Dingbang's face fell, "He's an extremely heavy sleeper. You don't think he's still..."

The two of them ran around asking every person if they've seen Wei Jinhai, but so far no one has.

"Are you looking for Wei Jinhai?" A person spoke from behind them.

Mo Dingbang whipped his head around, "Yes! Have you seen him?"

"I'm his roommate, Hu Feng. I haven't seen him either, I thought he got out first because I didn't see him inside the dorm." Hu Feng said with a ghostly pale expression.

Meanwhile in the dorm, with the blanket over his head, lay Wei Jinhai still sleeping soundly.

All of a sudden someone burst in through the door and ran to Wei Jinhai's bed.

The person ripped off the blanket and sighed, "So you really were still sleeping, idiot."

The person hoisted Wei Jinhai up, grabbed a wet cloth to cover their faces and started walking.

Just as they were about to reach the door, one of the roof beams collapsed...landing on top of them.
