Chapter 6: The conversation

Even though everyone was bursting with joy that they managed to drive the Hellfire Phoenix away from the school, the aftermath of the incident wasn't too great.

The Heavenly Officials found out about the incident and the fact that Mr. Zhang used wicked sorcery, so he was taken into temporary custody.

Headmaster Shen tried his best to explain to them that it was purely out of self defence and was completely necessary, but no matter what he said, the Heavenly Officials kept saying the same thing, "It doesn't matter. No matter how bad the situation was, wicked sorcery is still against the law. Therefore we still need to take him into custody. His punishment might be reduced a bit due to the situation, however he will still need to be punished for his actions."

Headmaster Shen just gave Mr. Zhang an apologetic look as the Heavenly Officials took him away.

The Heavenly Officials knew about everything that happened. All except for one little detail. The fact that Wei Jinhai was able to put out the Hellfire Phoenix's flames without using any wicked sorcery.

After the incident was over, Wei Jinhai was taken to the nurse to do some check ups. He refused at first, but then he started to feel a bit lightheaded and passed out.

Everyone was worried in case Wei Jinhai's spiritual energy got damaged, but when they arrived at the nurse's office she started laughing, "It's nothing serious at all. He just passed out from the fatigue. Poor kid probably never used that much spiritual energy in his life."

Everyone breathed out in relief. Wei Jinhai had to stay in the nurse's office for the next couple of days, so she can monitor his recovery.

Mo Dingbang and Qi Chaoxing went to visit him everyday. Literally every day, from morning to night, they stayed with him.

Wei Jinhai started to question why they didn't go to class, so the next day he asked them, "Umm, as much as I love the attention and care, how come you guys aren't in class?"

"Come on now. Just because you aren't attending morning meetings anymore, doesn't mean you can be isolated from the rest of the world," Qi Chaoxing said.

"Uhh..." Wei Jinhai just looked at them, utterly confused to what's going on.

"Didn't you hear about the Demon Department teacher being taken into custody by the Heavenly Officials?" Mo Dingbang asked.

"Oh yeah, I heard about that. I just thought since Mr. Zhang didn't do it with any ill intentions, he should be back by now," Wei Jinhai replied.

"Yeah well, the Heavenly Officials are looking for any reason to get rid of him, since they still don't trust demons," Mo Dingbang scoffed.

"I don't think that's the case. Maybe, since the person that brought the Hellfire Phoenix used wicked sorcery, they are starting to suspect anyone who is able to use it," Wei Jinhai suggested.

"Hmph," Mo Dingbang didn't say anything else.

The three of them spent the rest of the day talking about anything and everything, like they usually do. That afternoon, the nurse came to them and said, "Alright, looks like everything is in order. You are free to leave now if you like."

Wei Jinhai was overly happy to hear that. He was getting a bit bored of lying in bed every day. He instantly got out of the hospital bed and started putting his shoes on. Mo Dingbang and Qi Chaoxing helped him to pack up all his things. Once they made sure they didn't forget anything, they started heading towards the temporary dorms.

Everyone had to stay in temporary dorms, while they waited for the burned down ones to be repaired. Everything continued on as normal. The angels and spirit's classes still went on. Only the demons were on temporary holiday until Mr. Zhang comes back.

As the three of them walked down the hall, they heard muffled talking coming from a room. Being the eavesdropper Qi Chaoxing was, she started walking slower and tried to pick up a few sentences from the conversation. The door was left slightly ajar, so she could easily pick up what they were saying.

"This is really bad. How could this have happened?" one of the voices said.

"I'm not sure..." another voice said.

"Looks like we are going to have to strengthen the security here." a third voice spoke.

"Should we get more guards to patrol the school grounds?" the first voice spoke again.

"Looks like we are going to have to," the third voice responded.

"I can't believe the Heavenly Officials actually took Mr. Zhang with them. He didn't do anything wrong," another voice spoke.

"Yeah...they will let him go soon right?" the first voice spoke again.

"I'm really not sure. We can't guarantee anything at the moment." the third voice spoke again.

There was a slight moment of silence.

Someone then broke the silence and asked, "Since the Hellfire Phoenix is back, do you think that He might be back as well?"

"Oi, Qi Chaoxing! Enough with the eavesdropping already," Mo Dingbang interrupted her listening.

"Really? Just as it was starting to get interesting," Qi Chaoxing pouted.

"Aren't those the teacher's voices?" Wei Jinhai asked as he walked closer to the door as well.

"Yeah! And they are also talking about what happened today!" She said as she leaned closer to the door again.

This time Wei Jinhai also leaned closer to the door to listen, even Mo Dingbang shifted slightly closer.

They heard gasps come from the other side of the door.

"It can't be! He's dead!" Wei Jinhai recognised the voice belonging to Mrs. Liu.

"She's right! It has to be someone else," Mr. Li's voice held a hint of panic in it.

"But who else has the power to control the Hellfire Phoenix? Only the blood of the Demon King can control it," Mr. Bai's voice spoke out.

"Exactly, it only has to be the BLOOD of the Demon King, not the Demon King himself," Mrs. Liu tried to reason with him.

"How is that any better? Then it can only be his nephew or something," Mr. Bai retorted back.

"What about his heir?" Mr. Li suggested.

The room was filled with dead silence.

"Repeat that again?" Mr. Bai said sounding flabbergasted.

"I heard a rumour about the Demon King having an heir," Mr. Li repeated quietly.

"And you think it's true? He didn't even have a lover before he died," Mr. Bai argued back.

"Apparently he had a lover in secret, who also ended up having his child," Mr. Li said.

"Okay, let's say he really did have an heir, how come the Royal Family didn't get rid of it then?" Mr. Bai asked.

Mr. Li paused for a minute, then replied, "I don't know...but I strongly think that he does have an heir. I also think that his heir is the one behind all of this...and is currently walking the halls of the school this very minute."
