The class was filled with silence. Mr. Zhang didn't give any response to Wei Jinhai's question. At first his face was filled with surprise, but that slowly changed to a slight frown. He looked like he was busy contemplating about whether he should even give a response to such a question. Maybe the question wasn't whether he should give a response, but instead WHICH answer he should give.
The rest of the class didn't pay much attention to the question at first, but now seeing that the teacher was reluctant to answer, it immediately made the students more intrigued.
'Why is Mr. Zhang so hesitant? What's so wrong about the question? Is it something he's not allowed to tell us? But why? Didn't we all already learn the answer to this when we were kids?' These questions started to race through everyone's minds as they started to pour their whole focus on Mr. Zhang.
Mr. Zhang eventually gave a small sigh, "Might I ask why Mr. Wei is so interested in this question? To my knowledge, you have already learnt this in your earlier school days, no?"
'He's trying to avoid the question.' Wei Jinhai thought. He then gave a big smile and said, "Yes, we have been taught that already. However, I just happened to come across an interesting poster in the Angel Department's classroom earlier." Mr. Zhang's face showed a slight hint of alarm, but was quickly covered with his usual stone cold expression.
Wei Jinhai saw that Mr. Zhang was still not going to say anything, so he decided to push further, "At first I didn't pay much notice to it, but after catching a few glimpses at it, I couldn't help but notice the difference between what was on the poster and what we have been taught."
A few of the other students scrunched up their faces in confusion. In the end, a boy with curly black hair spoke up, "How can it be different? Surely it couldn't have been altered that much."
Wei Jinhai answered, "You will be surprised by how different it actually was." He then gave a brief summary of what was written on the poster.
Everyone was shocked to the bone. "That's insane! How can they claim such lies!" One of the girls in the front exclaimed. "You're right! How come no one corrected them, surely someone from the higher ups must have noticed such an error!" Yelled the same curly haired boy that spoke earlier.
Now everyone was fired up and staring at Mr. Zhang with disbelief visible in their eyes. It was as if they were demanding an explanation.
Mr. Zhang knew there was no way out anymore. Everyone was looking at him expectantly, so he finally caved in and released another big sigh, "It's not that simple. It's quite complex actually. Even I'm not too sure about what exactly happened back then."
They waited for Mr. Zhang to continue speaking, but then realization hit them. He was already done! Was that seriously his explanation?!
The curly haired boy laughed in disbelief, "You can't be serious? Is that all you are going to tell us?!"
Mr. Zhang replied, "I really wish I could give you all a proper explanation, but it really is not as simple as you might think. Yes, both Realms are shoving the blame onto each other, but none of us really know who started it all. The only ones that know what truly happened, are the King and Queen of the Heavenly Realm, the Demon King, and the Heavenly Officials who were in power at that time. However, all of them had already died before anyone had the chance to confirm who started it."
Everyone looked down and started to feel glum about knowing that they will never actually find out the truth about what happened. Wei Jinhai however, had a strong feeling that there was still more to the story than what Mr. Zhang was telling them.
Just then someone spoke up from the crowd, "That's not true."
Everyone turned their heads. Mr. Zhang frowned and raised his brows. A boy with flaming orange hair scowled and continued, "You said that everyone who knew about it had died. That's not true. There is one Heavenly Official that is still alive."
"Xie Zhixin, would you mind telling us more about what you mean by that?" Mr. Zhang asked.
Xie Zhixin smirked, "Gladly. You claim that everyone who knew about the incident have already long been dead. However, there is still one Heavenly Official that survived. That person suffered a major injury and will most likely never fully recover, so they probably promised to keep their mouth shut and continue to live peacefully."
Each and every one of them had the same puzzled expression on their faces. Mr. Zhang questioned, "And how are you certain that was what happened? That's a pretty large theory if you ask me. Do you have any solid evidence to what you are saying?"
Xie Zhixin scoffed and said, "Of course there is evidence. It's not physical evidence, but if you piece everything together then you would definitely figure it out."
Mr. Zhang stated firmly, "If you don't have any solid evidence to prove your theory, then I would strongly suggest you stop spreading these kinds of thoughts. You could land yourself in serious trouble."
'He's definitely trying to cover something,' Wei Jinhai thought. The more Mr. Zhang was trying to brush off the subject, the more suspicious he seemed.
Mr. Zhang then looked at the time and said, "All right enough of that, it's time for this lesson to end." He then gave a look towards Xie Zhixin, "I seriously hope I won't be hearing you spread this kind of thing around, do I make myself clear?"
Xie Zhixin replied coldly, "Crystal."
"..."
Everyone noticed the bitter tension in the room. It was hard not to! They all coughed and awkwardly left the room.
'Damn it.' Wei Jinhai thought. In the end he was still unable to squeeze out an answer from him. Wei Jinhai wasn't going to give up that easily, and planned to ask again next time.
Since that was their last class for the day, most of them started to either make their way to the dorms or leisurely wandered around. All except for Wei Jinhai, Mo Dingbang and Qi Chaoxing. The three of them haven't forgotten about their detention, so they reluctantly dragged their feet towards the detention class.
Once they got there, they saw that Chen Liwei and Jin Fu were already there. Jin Fu sat with the two people that helped him during the fight against Wei Jinhai.
They were seated near the back of the room while Chen Liwei was seated near the front. By the looks of things, Wei Jinhai guessed that the two of them still weren't on good terms yet.
Knowing that he was technically the main cause of their small quarrel, Wei Jinhai couldn't help but feel a bit guilty. He awkwardly entered the room and decided to take the seat nearest to him. Mo Dingbang and Qi Chaoxing followed after him and did the same.
Everyone sat there in silence. Nobody spoke a word. Maybe it was because of the heavy tension that was exceedingly notable between the two blondes, or maybe they were all too hesitant to start the conversation.
Just as Wei Jinhai was about to break the ice and say something, Mr. Li entered the classroom. He was wearing a displeased frown on his face as he looked at all of them. Wei Jinhai immediately shut his mouth.
"Huh? So you do know what basic discipline is. Now tell me, where was this behaviour earlier?" Mr. Li folded his arms as he questioned them.
They were all obviously aware that it was a rhetorical question, so they just continued to sit there and kept their mouths shut.
Mr. Li continued, "You guys are supposed to stay here for two hours, right? Use this time to either do work or reflect on your life choices."
"..."
Wei Jinhai lay down on his arms and decided it would be a good idea to sleep away the hours. Just as he was about to drift off to dreamland, he felt something lightly hit the back of his head.
