Silence filled the air. It was neither awkward nor peaceful. When the five of them got to the infirmary room, they found that the nurse wasn't there.
Jin Fu looked like he was familiar with the place. Since he went straight to one of the cabinets in the corner without thinking twice, he must have known that was where all the medicine was kept. Their guess was correct. Jin Fu came back from the cabinet holding a small bottle in his hand. He then started to apply the contents onto his swollen eye.
Mo Dingbang dragged Qi Chaoxing towards a chair, "Sit." It wasn't a demand, he said it sternly but there was a hint of care and worry in his tone.
He then went over to the same cabinet where Jin Fu got the small bottle of medicine from. Mo Dingbang picked up a few bottles and inspected each one to see which one would be suitable for use. In the end he picked up a small bottle that had "FOR NOSEBLEEDS ONLY" written on the front. He went back to where Qi Chaoxing was seated and started to help apply the medicine.
Wei Jinhai also went over to where Qi Chaoxing and Mo Dingbang was and asked in a concerned voice, "How is it feeling? It's not broken right?"
"Nah. He wouldn't even be able to break a glass bottle, let alone a nose," Qi Chaoxing said in her usual energetic voice.
Wei Jinhai smiled in relief. At least she wasn't badly injured. Mo Dingbang however, flicked her nose. Qi Chaoxing cried out, "Owww, that hurt!"
"Idiot. Now you know not to get into any more fights," Mo Dingbang said.
Qi Chaoxing pouted and mumbled, "No promises." Which made Mo Dingbang give her another flick to the nose.
"Owww. Ok, I'm sorry. I'll try not to get into any more fights from now on," Qi Chaoxing whined.
Wei Jinhai laughed at their silliness. He then felt something grip his wrist. He turned around and saw Chen Liwei staring at him.
"Aren't you going to treat your wound?" Chen Liwei asked.
Wei Jinhai was taken aback by this. Since when did Chen Liwei care if he treated his wound or not?
Wei Jinhai cracked a smile then said, "It's not really a big deal, so I found no use in treating it. It's only a bruise after all, it will most likely heal in the next few days anyway."
Chen Liwei frowned then said, "Even so, you still need to take care of it." He then pulled Wei Jinhai towards a chair.
Wei Jinhai obediently sat down and looked at Chen Liwei in confusion.
"Uh-" but before Wei Jinhai could say anything, Chen Liwei leaned forward.
Wei Jinhai froze in his seat. Bright red eyes met pale blue ones. It was only then did Wei Jinhai notice that Chen Liwei's eyes weren't pure blue. From this close, Wei Jinhai could just make out a hint of green in them as well. His eyes truly were a work of art. They were like a calm ocean, but also a lively grass field.
"Wow," Wei Jinhai breathed out.
Wei Jinhai then realised what he just said and went red in the face. Thankfully none of the others heard, but unfortunately for him, Chen Liwei heard him loud and clear. Chen Liwei raised his eyebrows, but didn't comment.
This made Wei Jinhai grow even redder in the face. He was now certain his whole face, neck and ears were dyed crimson.
The other three finally took notice of Wei Jinhai and Chen Liwei's awkward position. The two of them weren't actually doing anything weird, but from the other's point of view, all they saw was Chen Liwei being only just a few inches away from Wei Jinhai's deeply red face.
Jin Fu nearly spat in shock and Qi Chaoxing stared wide-eyed. Mo Dingbang only had a vague look of surprise on his face, but that was already a lot for his usual stony expression.
"I-it's not what it looks like!" Wei Jinhai said hurriedly.
Chen Liwei said, "Oh? What does it look like then? I was just inspecting your wound since you refused to do so earlier."
"I didn't refuse. I just found it unnecessary," Wei Jinhai mumbled in embarrassment.
Chen Liwei chuckled lightly then pulled out a small bottle from who knows where and started to apply its contents on Wei Jinhai's slightly swollen eye.
The other three were still staring at the two of them. Mo Dingbang gave a small cough and went back to tending to Qi Chaoxing's injury. Jin Fu opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again and decided to shift his glance elsewhere.
Wei Jinhai sighed. How will he explain it to Mo Dingbang and Qi Chaoxing now? Chen Liwei however, couldn't look any less bothered. He continued to help apply the unknown contents to Wei Jinhai's eye.
Wei Jinhai finally snapped out of his thoughts and saw what Chen Liwei was doing. He quickly spoke up, "Wait a minute! You seriously don't have to go through all of this trouble. I'm not crippled, so I am more than capable to do it myself."
Chen Liwei raised his eyebrows and said, "I already have the medicine in my hand. Wouldn't it be a waste if I just stopped now?"
Wei Jinhai didn't know how to respond. In the end he just let Chen Liwei help treat his wound. Wouldn't he seem ungrateful if he just downright rejected his help?
After Chen Liwei finished applying the medicine, Wei Jinhai thanked him gratefully, "Thank you. You truly helped me a lot. I definitely won't forget to repay you back one day."
Chen Liwei gave a small nod in response. Wei Jinhai then turned to where Qi Chaoxing and Mo Dingbang were seated, "Have you guys finished?"
Qi Chaoxing smirked, "Yeah, we finished long ago. We were just waiting for you two to finish doing what you were doing."
Wei Jinhai turned slightly red again, but chose to ignore her last sentence, "In that case we should start heading back to class. We already missed half the lesson."
Qi Chaoxing struggled to suppress her laughter as she hopped out of her seat and walked out the room. Mo Dingbang followed after her, not sparing another look towards the others. Just as Wei Jinhai was about to follow after them, he stopped and said a quick goodbye to Chen Liwei before exiting the room himself.
As the three of them walked to their class, no one mentioned anything of what happened earlier. Wei Jinhai let out a silent breath of relief. It wasn't like he had anything to hide or feel guilty about. He just felt that it would be extremely awkward to try and explain it to them.
Wei Jinhai was so lost in thought, he didn't even realise that they have already reached the classroom. He was just about to walk right past, when Qi Chaoxing burst out laughing and said, "Quit daydreaming. You do realise you walked right past it, right?"
Wei Jinhai immediately snapped out of it and blinked hard a few times. He replied sheepishly, "Hahaha, my bad."
Qi Chaoxing was still laughing uncontrollably as they opened the door. The rest of the class turned their heads to see who the late comers were. The three of them continued to stand there awkwardly. The teacher of the class, Mr. Zhang, spoke in a monotone voice, "No need to worry, I have already been informed that you three would be late. Don't just stand there like statues, go find a seat. You already missed most of the lesson, so don't hold the rest of the class back as well."
The three of them immediately went to occupy the seats near the back of the class. Mr. Zhang cleared his throat and continued, "This lesson we have been discussing the history of the Demon Realm. It is highly essential for you to know this, so I strongly suggest you all pay close attention."
Wei Jinhai thought this would be the perfect time to ask whether the poster about the Demon Realm starting the war was true or not. He was well aware that Mr. Zhang was originally from the Demon Realm, but since he was working as a teacher in the Heavenly Realm then surely he would have to say the truth. He wouldn't just blame his own Realm that easily, and he also couldn't throw the Heavenly Realm under the bus either. Wei Jinhai thought of this and concluded that Mr. Zhang would be the perfect person to ask such a question to.
It took a while for Wei Jinhai to gather up the courage, but he finally raised his hand and asked, "Sorry to interrupt, but I have a question to ask."
Mr. Zhang stopped then answered, "Sure, go ahead."
Wei Jinhai continued, "I have been thinking about this question a lot lately, but just couldn't find a reasonable answer. It is about the siege that took place sixteen years ago. Who were the ones that really started it?"
