Chapter 4

" Oooh ! You certainly have your downs and lows. I thought you were a strong person. I am sorry to hear that; there are many magazines in Paris, you can apply for other interviews."

"You're right! I will do my best in other interviews," I expected a hug from her but she didn't do anything. I was disappointed. Why? I really needed someone to console me. "So, where will you take us? I don't think the island Saint-Louis is the perfect place to celebrate my failure."

"Oh, you are right. I thought you liked it; the quiet scenery and the fresh atmosphere, you used to come here a lot. But I guess even you can have a change of attitude… Where shall we go? Montmartre?"

"I think so. Oberkampf! How about 'To the three friends' restaurant? I heard they have succulent dishes."

"And what will we do with what I bought?"

"Ammm… Then let's go home. We eat, we go out after 6:30 PM. I don't want to be taken as someone who took her afternoon off."

It didn't take us long before reaching our home; we lived near le canal saint-Martin. Alors, we ate the lunch she bought and I promised in internally, I would give it back to her slowly. Strangely, I feel like my debt to her was growing.

Anais room was a well-organized space. She had shelves all over the walls with books on them. They were so boring and they treated different subjects; it wasn't something I was interested in.

However, philosophy was a complicated subject that attracted my attention, especially when it talked about humans inner desires. I felt humans knew more than us about love and I had to further study in my field to get to where the moon goddess stood. Everyone starts somewhere.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend the night in Montmartre. I was so disappointed and I was eager for a change… Darcie got a call from a guy I didn't know. She met him while strolling the streets waiting for me. He told her she was so beautiful that it took his breath away. Darcie was in it for a big heart change when she would discover many guys flirt for a one night stand.

I also got a call abruptly. I stared at the screen for several minutes before answering the second call. The number wasn't listed on my phone.

"Good evening, to whom do I owe the honour? "

I listen to the breathing of someone and the paces of people in the street.

"Hello, miss of the Cross. I need to see you today. There was a slight misunderstanding on our part. I hope you find it in your heart to forgive us. I intended for you to come and see me immediately in my office but you didn't present yourself at the reception."

"My receptionist showed such a lack of information that I feel ashamed. I want to rectify my mistake and give you the job I planned for you. After all, I was the one who contacted you."

This is something I didn't pay attention to and unfortunately, I can't replay Anais life like a movie again. I should pay attention to details more closely. If I had known, I would have gone to him directly instead of meeting with that Julie.

His voice was so warm and kind; it makes me revise my opinion of him. "And should I come to 'the Love Prism' or are you planning for a meeting somewhere else?"

"Such a witty answer from you, miss of the Cross! Let's meet at Montmartre café! Do you know it?"

"Obviously."

"Then 7 PM will be the best timing for our meeting. I will inform you of the details of your job and rectify the mistakes. Once again, I apologize for the misunderstanding."

He hangs up immediately leaving me listening to the beep sound. I watched Darcie as she kissed my cheek, got herself all beautiful and opened the door.

"Are you going out with that guy?"

"Who?" she averts her eyeballs acting all dumb.

"C'mon, you know who I am talking about. Do you think I missed the rosy cheeks and the stuttering sound when you answered him? I don't miss those details. Be careful out there! Paris is much more dangerous at night."

"Don't tell me you believe what Alexandre Flambert writes in his section? It's ridiculous. Folk creatures don't exist! Keep those thoughts out of your head. You also have an appointment this night, aren't you?" she grinned.

"I do. The boss of the Love Prism called me to say he didn't intend to reject me and he desires to rectify his mistake. I don't know what made them change opinion but better take advantage of the opportunity."

"This is the Anais I know. Go there and rock it!"

I feel left out. I tried to act like Anais but I was fake. If they believed in supernatural events, I would be doomed. Anyway, I have to change my clothes again and appear all elegant and sophisticated or the mighty Alexandre-

"Did you say the boss of the Love Prism?" the door opened abruptly and a surprised Darcie peeked inside my room. "Are you talking about Alexandre Flambert? Can you get me an autograph from him?"

"You clearly said you didn't believe in-"

"I know, I know… I can boast to my friends about it. Don't forget me! By the way, the blue dress on you suits you beautifully, don't ruin it! You might get a job and a boyfriend this night."

"Oust!" I threw the pillow at the door after she disappeared behind it. Why would I be interested in getting a boyfriend? Anyway, I can't do that. Andre was so clear about meeting someone in private… and I was doing it now. No… It's a job, nothing more, nothing less.

In the end, I ended up on Oberkampf Street with my future boss. He was waiting for me in a pretty popular restaurant, his phone in his hand browsing for folklore legends and such. I surprised him when I showed up on top of his shoulder.

"You are really interested in imaginary beings, Mister Alexandre," I took a seat in front of him.

"What took you so long, miss of the Cross? Shall I take it as even now?"

"If maybe someone thought of warning me earlier, I would have prepared for it," it took me hours to choose my outfit and this is what I hear from him.

"Right! It was my fault once again! Pardon! I don't have much time so let's get down to business," he leaned closer to me as if he intended to share a secret. A smirk widened on his lips and I found myself imagining how they tasted. Hell! I had mental images! No!

"I asked you to come to Paris for a new position I created in my company. It took me months to find someone like you and you are perfect for that position. A job of a different kind!" he poured himself more wine.

"What do you mean by different?"

"It could be dangerous but I guarantee it's worth the extra mile, Miss of the Cross. Have you heard of the disappearances around town lately?"

"About the guy who was found dead in the Rambouillet Forest, I heard about it. It's creepy! The articles stated they found huge canine marks on his body and his whole face was ruined. Who would be able to do such things? They might not be humans."

"Exactly, Miss of the Cross, exactly…"
