Chapter 11 - Mission Complete

Chapter 11 – Mission Complete

"CHI!!!" The horned rabbit continued to rush forward to attack Berry. Berry pulled out his palm and blocked the horn with his Barrier.

Even so, he did not fully block the horn. Berry tilted his palm a bit and the horn slid to the side changing the rabbit's direction. The rabbit missed but Berry did not miss this chance and threw a golf ball at the rabbit.

The golf ball hit the rabbit and the ball disappeared.

[Horned Rabbit's HP -3]

[Horned Rabbit defeated]

[Horned Rabbit's horn obtained] the system notified Berry.

"Finally, the last horn. How many rabbits have I fought?" Berry felt relieved that he finally completed his mission. Berry picked up the horn and stored it in his storage. Berry checked the storage.

Slot 1: Gold [10/500]

Slot 2: Golf Ball [1/5]

Slot 3: Rabbit Pelt [5/5]

Slot 4: Horned Rabbit's Horn [3/5]

Slot 5: Rabbit Pelt [1/5]

"I defeated nine of them but the horn drop rate is quite low," Berry sighed. Berry sat on the grass to rest a bit. "How many hours is it since I play the game today?" Berry checked the time and he had been playing the game for two hours.

"…After I report this mission, I will stop playing the game. I spent too much time playing this," Berry mumbled. Then, he stared at his palm.

"However, there are many benefits playing this game and I bet other sports game is beneficial to me too if they apply the same rule as Dodgeball Master," Berry spoke.

"I never get the chance to experience a real fight using my martial arts. When playing RPG Fantasy games, the stats make it too easy to defeat the opponent. Fighting games are similar to sparring," Berry continued.

"This game is better for me to get real fighting experience. Since combat moves and skills are restricted, I get to gain a lot of fighting experience because they are harder to defeat. Although only on rabbits but an experience is still an experience," Berry mumbled.

Berry was quite happy playing the game because he could get fighting experience. Although it was not real, the VR was made to make the games almost as real as real life.

The world was peaceful in real life. So, it was almost impossible for Berry to suddenly engage in a fight or met a robber and was allowed to use his martial arts to defend. He also could not find someone and fight them without a reason. Berry was not a lawless person.

"If I am playing a sports game, martial arts game may be the best to get more fighting experience," Berry mumbled.

Berry sat there for a few more minutes before he decided to head back to the city to report his mission.

"This game is helping me gaining fighting experience and my martial arts is helping me completing the mission with the supposedly inferior ability, Barrier," Berry mumbled while walking to the city.

Berry had been able to use the easy-to-break Barrier skill with his martial arts. Thanks to his martial arts, Berry used the tiny barrier to deflect the attack of the rabbit. Berry was used to it now that he could execute it without much problem.

Berry could gain fighting experience and at the same time, his martial arts were helping him playing Dodgeball Master.

The way he used the Barrier was not the only thing his martial arts helped. Thanks to his martial arts, he could evade, parried, defended, and fought better against the opponent even without any balls to throw. Unless he was not calm enough, Berry could easily defeat the opponent.

"I also need to play this game to help me with my work," Berry added. "I guess, I will continue with this game perhaps until I quit or fired from this job."

Berry got to the city and went straight to the Public Guild's building. He got to the registration counter and met the same receptionist as before. Berry handed the three horn as proof that he defeated three horned rabbits.

"Congratulations. You are now officially a Rank F member of the Public Guild," the receptionist smiled and handed Berry the guild card which immediately updated the mission.

After that, another notification arrived.

Berry left the registration counter and found an empty bench to check on the rewards he got for completing the mission.

First, Berry checked his storage and found out that his money had increased from 10G to 310G. The 300G reward he got was added to the leftover money he had earlier.

"Now, I can buy more balls. No matter how I see it, the balls are the most important thing the player needs," Berry mumbled and he checked his stats to see that he had 3 unused experience points.

Berry clicked on the unused experience points and a notification appeared.

[Do you want to distribute the experience points?]

"Yes," Berry replied and another notification appeared.

[Choose where to apply the experience. Player Level or Skill?]

"As I thought…" Berry mumbled. Berry had realized it since he read the skill explanation before. He also confirmed it when his skill experience remained the same even after he had used the skill a few times.

In Dodgeball Master, the experience point needed for leveling up was the same as the experience needed to level up the skill. Since the only way to gain experience points was by completing missions and challenging other players, players needed to think through where to distribute the points.

If the player focused on raising their level, they would have inferior skills to back them up. If they focus on raising their skill, they would have inferior stats to fight their opponent. Players needed to think of this properly.

"Hmm…" Berry think of it silently and a few seconds later, he made his decision. "Let distribute them fairly. Since there are only three points, it will not matter where I put it. For now, I will raise my level first," Berry spoke.

The three experience points were added to the level. Now, Berry's level's experience was on 3/15. Twelve more experience points, Berry would level up to level 2.

Berry left the stat menu and went to the Announcement Menu. Previously, it was empty but after he completed the mission, it was packed with many announcements.

[Registration for Spring Tournament for all rank is open! You can register at any Battle Tower and participate in the tournament on Spring Month 3]

[Player XXX has become the winner for the Battle of the Giant Forest!]

[Spring discount for the following items and materials!]

"There are a lot of announcements," Berry briefly read all the announcements and turned off the menu.

"Since I am still new to the game, I better stay away from all this big tournament. I need to learn more about the game first," Berry decided to understand more about the game before he participated in any events.

"Let's do some missions to raise my level. I also need to think of other ways to use my Barrier. I can deflect without much problem now but I wonder if it will be fine if I smack the barrier at the opponent? I never try that," Berry started to think of other ways to use his skill.

Since the forum said the skill was useless, Berry had found a way to use them better. Although not that much better, Barrier was not as useless as everyone had suggested.

Berry got up from the bench and checked the Rank F mission boards on the first floor.

"How many missions can I take in one go?" Berry wondered. He found a few missions he liked and try to take a few of them. However, he could only take three of them.

"So, three is the limit," Berry nodded. Berry brought the mission's paper to the counter and the mission was registered to his system.

[Mission: Rabbit Horn

Rank: F

Details: Collect 10 Rabbit Horns

Reward: 8 Experience Points, 300G, and 5 Guild Point]

[Mission: Rabbit Pelt

Rank: F

[Mission: Gummy Dandelion

"I will need to sell the rabbit pelts I got earlier to buy more balls," Berry could use them to complete the mission but he needed to buy some balls. Although he had 310G in his storage, he needed to use some of them to enlarge his storage.

"Let's buy some golf balls," Berry got out of the Public Guild's building and went to find a shop to sell the rabbit pelts. He also went to a ball shop to buy some golf balls. Berry could buy stronger balls but he decided to put that on hold.

While Berry was busy doing what he wanted, someone was silently following him from behind.

"I finally found you!"
