7 --- 5

*"911, what's your emergency?"*

"I was kidnapped and I --" Amber gasped. "I think they are still chasing me."

*"Calm down miss, where are you now?"*

"I don't know, I am in a phone booth, I think I passed the times Square a few minutes back."

*"Ok. Units have been dispatched to your area of location. Can you describe your kidnappers?"*

"They were all willers, I think I saw Victor himself."

There was a long pause on the other line. *"Are you a willer, miss?"*

"Why the fuck does that matter?" Anger tinged her voice.

*"Please answer the question."* The formerly calm voice was now harsh and wary.

She took a deep breath. "Yes." She answered truthfully.

*"I am sorry miss but we do not have the jurisdiction to offer any aid to you."*

"What are you --" The line was dead, Amber stared at the phone in shock.

She slowly recovered enough to look for some loose change in her pockets and call the only number she knew by heart. Her mother's.

She picked after six rings. "Mum I --"

*"Oh Amber, I have been so worried."*

"I know but --"

*"I and your father understand the need for you to have some space right now but you should have at least told us."*

"That was not what --. Wait, is that why you think I am not around?"

*"Why else would you leave home, honey?"*

"I can't --"

*"Oh honey, I've got a meeting with a client now. You can come home anytime you like. We don't mind, I got to go, love you."  The line went dead again.*

Amber couldn't bring herself to take the phone off her ear, she just couldn't believe the conversation she just had.

"Oh it's no use." A voice suddenly startled her. It was a man leaning on the booth. She recognized him instantly from when he stabbed her in the neck with a syringe.

"She's cutting ties with you." He continued like he didn't notice her reaction to his presence. "When I broke out, my father just plainly told me to leave the house and never come back. At least your mother is being nice about it." There was  bitterness in his voice.

"My parents are not like that, they are just busy."

He laughed harshly. "You are really stupid if you believe that. When they look at you, they don't see their daughter anymore. It's like something took control of your body and you are not longer the person they have spent the last sixteen years of their lives.

Amber saw that his words were hurting her more than her fear of being kidnapped again, there were tears in her eyes. "That is not true."

"They don't talk or love you the way they do before you must have noticed it but you have chosen to ignore it."

"Shut up!" She shouted and light burst from her palm and the booth exploded, the man was flung away a few feet from her. Amber turned and ran from him.

The explosion immediately attracted attention from people around. She had not gotten far before she ran into a policeman who had come to investigate the noise.

She stopped abruptly in front of him. "You have to help me, A man is trying to hurt me."

His reaction was unexpected, his hand went to his gun at his hip. "Step away." He said in a hard voice.

"What?" She moved closer but he stopped back and drew up his gun. People were staring at them now while whispering.

Then she saw the reflection of her eyes in the dark sunglasses of the cop, they were glowing brightly. She blinked severally to put them off but it was no use, her heart was beating too fast and very afraid. She looked back and saw the man among the crowd looking at her with a smile on his face.

"Step away now or I will shoot." The cop said, he was holding the gun tight with white knuckles but he didn't point it at her. The crowd was getting louder every second, some people were hastily leaving the scene.

This was not helping her situation. She bolted away from the spot. People gasped  in shock at her blistering speed and a bit of light show.

She was on the run again just like she had been through the night, running through the city with speed but no direction.

She was tired but she could not stop. She heard what Victor was planning to do back at the plane yesterday. Getting her memories cleared wasn't exactly on her bucket list.

She was covering long distances within little time but it was not enough. A hand suddenly shot out of an alley and grabbed her shirt and pulled her into it. She shrieked loudly but there was no one around to notice. She felt her skull crack against a wall and she moaned in pain.

"You are one fast little bitch, I will give you that." He said while struggling to hold her against the wall.

Amber managed to free of her arms and swung a clenched fist at the side of his face but she did not have enough space to do any damage. He responded with a knee to her abdomen. Pain blossomed in her gut and her vision blurred.

There was a clicking sound and when her vision cleared, her hands were cuffed with the same material as yesterday. She could already feel her powers dampening. She was defenceless against him, she couldn't even run if she had the chance to.

She dropped to the ground like a ragdoll and starred helplessly at his face.

"You are lucky Victor wants you alive. I have been looking for  you and the rest of the runaways since last night. I am tired and frustrated, you don't want to test me. Come quietly and I won't hurt you."

"What about me?" A voice came from above them and they both looked up but Amber didn't get to see anything as a bright light flashed into her eyes. There was a flash of pain from the man and a loud crash.

She opened her eyes and saw the newcomer standing over her staring down at her with intense amber eyes.

"Are you okay?" He asked. She nodded dumbly.

"What is your name?" He asked with a smile.

"Amber." Her voice came with a croak.

"Sorry you had to see that Amber, my name is Nate."
